In addition, strategic reading is significant for a reader to construct meaning effectively from written texts. The study aimed to examine the frequency of the employment of reading strategies by 1,368 Chinese university students in Southwest China; and the relationship between students＇ employment of reading strategies and their genders. The data were collected through the questionnaire and analyzed quantitatively through the ANOVA （Analysis of Variance） and the chi-square tests in terms of examining the significant variation. The results revealed that the frequency of the participants＇ overall reading strategy use fell into the moderate use; the significant differences were found in relation to the students＇ genders. The pedagogical implications in relation to the particular research findings were given at the end of the paper.展开更多

Simultaneously, university students are also required to constantly update their skills. All of the above will be the challenge of university students’ employment prospects. However, artificial intelligence will also bring new opportunities, which will stimulate the innovation ability of university students and bring new directions for employment. In order to better cope with the possible impact of artificial intelligence, universities should incorporate employment guidance services into the “three-wide education” system. To achieve this, universities need to take the following measures: developing the dynamic monitoring system of university employment based on big data, constructing the employment guidance curriculum system of university students throughout the whole process, updating the mode of diversified employment guidance service as well as establishing a team of employment guidance teachers keeping pace with the times. These measures aim to better adapt to the job market demands in the context of artificial intelligence, guide students to actively respond to the possible impact of artificial intelligence technology, cultivate their core competencies and qualities that are less likely to be replaced by artificial intelligence, and promote the high-quality employment of university students.展开更多

Adopting the uses and gratification approach, the study investigates how the students utilize social media to gratify their personal, social, psychological, and educational needs. The study uses a questionnaire to collect data from a sample of 420 students from two universities in the UAE: University of Sharjah and Zayed University. In each university, two colleges were selected to represent art colleges and sciences colleges. The findings of the study show that 69.3% of the students are accessing social media more than five hours daily. 79.0% of the students access the social media through their smartphones. The main social media accessed are WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. The main reasons of using social media are seeking information, communicating with friends, consuming time, and following up public affairs.展开更多
