Modeling of unsteady aerodynamic loads at high angles of attack using a small amount of experimental or simulation data to construct predictive models for unknown states can greatly improve the efficiency of aircraft unsteady aerodynamic design and flight dynamics analysis. In this paper, aiming at the problems of poor generalization of traditional aerodynamic models and intelligent models,an intelligent aerodynamic modeling method based on gated neural units is proposed. The time memory characteristics of the gated neural unit is fully utilized, thus the nonlinear flow field characterization ability of the learning and training process is enhanced, and the generalization ability of the whole prediction model is improved. The prediction and verification of the model are carried out under the maneuvering flight condition of NACA0015 airfoil. The results show that the model has good adaptability. In the interpolation prediction, the maximum prediction error of the lift and drag coefficients and the moment coefficient does not exceed 10%,which can basically represent the variation characteristics of the entire flow field. In the construction of extrapolation models, the training model based on the strong nonlinear data has good accuracy for weak nonlinear prediction.Furthermore, the error is larger, even exceeding 20%,which indicates that the extrapolation and generalization capabilities need to be further optimized by integrating physical models.Compared with the conventional state space equation model, the proposed method can improve the extrapolation accuracy and efficiency by 78%and 60%,respectively,which demonstrates the applied potential of this method in aerodynamic modeling. 展开更多

In view of engineering application, it is practicable to decompose the aerodynamics into three components: the static aerodynamics, the aerodynamic increment due to steady rotations, and the aerodynamic increment due to unsteady separated and vortical flow. The first and the second components can be presented in conventional forms, while the third is described using a one-order differential equation and a radial-basis-function (RBF) network. For an aircraft configuration, the mathematical models of 6- component aerodynamic coefficients are set up from the wind tunnel test data of pitch, yaw, roll, and coupled yawroll large-amplitude oscillations. The flight dynamics of an aircraft is studied by the bifurcation analysis technique in the case of quasi-steady aerodynamics and unsteady aerodynam- ics, respectively. The results show that: (1) unsteady aerodynamics has no effect upon the existence of trim points, but affects their stability; (2) unsteady aerodynamics has great effects upon the existence, stability, and amplitudes of periodic solutions; and (3) unsteady aerodynamics changes the stable regions of trim points obviously. Furthermore, the dynamic responses of the aircraft to elevator deflections are inspected. It is shown that the unsteady aerodynamics is beneficial to dynamic stability for the present aircraft. Finally, the effects of unsteady aerodynamics on the post-stall maneuverability 展开更多

The actuator disc method is an engineering approach to reduce computer resources in computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations of helicopter rotors or aeroplane propellers.Implementation of an actuator disc based on rotor circulation distribution allows for approximations to be made while reproducing the blade tip vortices.Radial circulation distributions can be formulated according to the nonuniform Heyson-Katzoff“typical load”in hover. In forward flight, the nonuniform disk models include“azimuthal”sin and cos terms to reproduce the blade cyclic motion. The azimuthal circulation distribution for a forward flight mode corresponds to trimmed conditions for the disk rolling and pitching moments. The amplitude of the cos harmonic is analysed and compared here with presented in references data and CFD simulations results. 展开更多

Abstract Tidal current energy is renewable and sustainable, which is a promising altemative energy resource for the future elec- tricity supply. The straight-bladed vertical-axis turbine is regarded as a useful tool to capture the tidal current energy especially under low-speed conditions. A 2D unsteady numerical model based on Ansys-Fluent 12.0 is established to conduct the numerical simulation, which is validated by the corresponding experimental data. For the unsteady calculations, the SST model, 2x 105 and 0.01 s are se- lected as the proper turbulence model, mesh number, and time step, respectively. Detailed contours of the velocity distributions around the rotor blade foils have been provided for a flow field analysis. The tip speed ratio (TSR) determines the azimuth angle of the appearance of the torque peak, which occurs once for a blade in a single revolution. It is also found that simply increasing the incident flow velocity could not improve the turbine performance accordingly. The peaks of the averaged power and torque coeffi- cients appear at TSRs of 2.1 and 1.8, respectively. Furthermore, several shapes of the duct augmentation are proposed to improve the turbine performance by contracting the flow path gradually from the open mouth of the duct to the rotor. The duct augmentation can significantly enhance the power and torque output. Furthermore, the elliptic shape enables the best performance of the turbine. The numerical results prove the capability of the present 2D model for the unsteady hydrodynamics and an operating performance analy- sis of the vertical tidal stream turbine. 展开更多

Actuator Disks(AD)can provide characterizations of rotor wakes while reducing computational expense associated with modeling the fully resolved blades. This work presents an unsteady actuator disk method based on surface circulation distribution combined with empirical data, blade element theory and rotor momentum theory. The nonuniform circulation distribution accounts for 3 D blade load effects, and in particular, tip loses.Numerical simulations were conducted for the isolated pressure sensitive paint model rotor blade in hover and forward flight using the HMB3 CFD solver of Glasgow University.Validation of CFD results in comparison with published numerical data was performed in hover, for a range of blade pitch angles using fully turbulent flow and the k-x SST model. In forward flight, the vortex structures predicted using the unsteady actuator disk model showed configurations similar to the ones obtained using fully resolved rotor blades.Despite the reduced grid cells number, the CFD results for AD models captured well the main vortical structures around the rotor disk in comparison to the fully resolved cases. 展开更多

The lower Yellow River still faces the threat of flood due to the unusual precipitation caused by global environmental change, river channel sedimentation, hidden danger in the dike and unfavorable river regime of "hanging river". According to the characteristics of the dike-break flood of the Yellow River, this paper has simulated, in six different scenarios, the dike-break flood routing by inputting the terrain data, typical historical flood data and land use data of study area to two-dimensional unsteady flow model. The results show that: firstly, the routing process of flood will occupy other rivers on the way and return to the rivers after reaching the lower reaches; secondly, in the same river reach, flood inundating area of north band is bigger than that at corresponding location of south bank under the same historical flood; thirdly, it is different in the degree of flood inundation in different regions due to different geographical locations in flood plain; fourthly, the area of mainstream where flood is deep and flow velocity is quick is relatively smaller, but the area of non-mainstream, where flood is shallow and flow velocity is slow, is relatively big; and finally, the possible influenced area of the dike-break flood is 141,948 km^2. 展开更多

A stall inception model for transonic fan/compressors is presented in this paper. It can be shown that under some assumptions the solution of unsteady flow field consists of pressure wave which propagates upstream or downstream, vortex wave and entropy wave convected with the mean flow speed. By further using the mode-matching technique and applying the conservation law and conditions reflecting the loss characteristics of a compressor in the inlet and outlet of the rotor or stator blade rows, a group of homogeneous equations can be obtained from which the stability equation can be derived. Based on the analysis of the unsteady phenomenon caused by casing treatments, the function of casing treatments has been modeled by a wall impedance condition which has been included in the stability model through the eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions of the system. Besides, the effect of shock waves in cascade channel on the stability prediction is also considered in the stall inception model. Finally, some numerical analysis and experimental investigation are also conducted with emphasis on the mutual comparison. 展开更多

Hydraulic machinery mainly includes turbine and pump, which is closely related to national economy and people's livelihood involving aerospace industry, marine engineering, hydropower engineering, petroleum industry, chemical industry, mining industry, biomedical engineering, environmental engineering, agricultural water-soil engineering, etc.. The internal flow of hydraulic machinery is extremely complex, and its characteristics can be summarized as high Reynolds number, multi-scales, inhomogeneous and vortex-dominant unsteady turbulence which interact with the rotating dynamic boundary(rotor blade). Based on the analysis of the internal flow characteristics of hydraulic machinery, the author and his research team successively proposed a rotation correction model, a curvature corrected filter-based model, a scalable detached eddy simulation method, and a non-linear hybrid RANS/LES turbulence model to capture unsteady flow structures and then predict hydraulic performance and dynamic characteristics more accurately. According to the analysis on the internal flow, the corresponding flow control measures were put forward. It was verified by experiments that these methods could significantly improve the hydraulic performance, anti-cavitation performance and dynamic characteristics(pressure pulsation and vibration) of hydraulic machinery in a certain range of operating conditions. In addition, the mechanism how flow control measures influence internal flow was analyzed in depth, aiming at finding a feasible and effective way to improve hydraulic performance, anti-cavitation performance and dynamic characteristics of hydraulic machinery. 展开更多

This study conducts a comparative analysis between detached eddy simulation(DES)and Unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(URANS)models for simulating pressure fluctuations in a stilling basin, aiming to assess the URANS mode’s performance in modeling pressure fluctuation. The URANS model predicts accurately a smoother flow field and its time-average pressure, yet it underestimates the root mean square of pressure(RMSP)fluctuation, achieving approximately 70%of the results predicted by DES model on the bottom floor of the stilling basin.Compared with DES model’s results, which are in alignment with the Kolmogorov−5/3 law,the URANS model significantly overestimates low-frequency pulsations, particularly those below 0.1 Hz.We further propose a novel method for estimating the RMSP in the stilling basin using URANS model results, based on the establishment of a quantitative relationship between the RMSP,time-averaged pressure, and turbulent kinetic energy in the boundary layer. The proposed method closely aligns with DES results, showing a mere 15%error level. These findings offer vital insights for selecting appropriate turbulence models in hydraulic engineering and provide a valuable tool for engineers to estimate pressure fluctuation in stilling basins. 展开更多
