Objective The Qinling Mountains (QM) in Central China is a natural harrier that corresponds to the boundary between the southern and northern climate and environment (Gong Hujun et al., 2017). Northern QM is relatively steep, and southern QM is in contrast relatively low and gentle. Investigations have shown that the average uplift rate of northern QM since 17.8 Ma is approximately 0.19 mm/a (Yin Gongming et al., 2001), whereas that of central QM since 0.36 Ma is approximately 0.32 mm/a (Wang Fei et al., 2004). To date, however, few investigations have yet been conducted on the uplift rate of southern QM. Accordingly, we aim to obtain the uplift rate of southern QM by using the cosmogenic ^26A1/^10 Be burial dating method to determine the age of the highest river terrace on the southern slope of QM. 展开更多

Since the recorded historical period, the Kachchh Rift Basin(KRB)has encountered numerous moderate to large magnitude earthquakes.According to the series of seismicity research so far, there are several important points of debate regarding the tectonic history and evolution of the KRB,especially during the Quaternary period. Therefore, the main objective of the present research is to inspect and perceive the association amongst the strain build-up,earthquake provenance, landform evolution and progression as archived by the Quaternary deposits of the KRB.The previous studies demonstrated the evolutions of various landforms, such as the uplifted fluvial terraces, formation of the gorges, uplifted alluvial fan sequences, which can be ideally used to reconstruct the neotectonic history along active faults of KRB.Considering this, the analysis of the accessible and supportive data, including geochronology provided by earlier studies along with some new dataset for a superior knowledge on the Quaternary tectonic forces prevailing in the KRB,have been carried out.Furthermore,we also emphasized the differences and directions for future potential research issues. The observations of variability in uplift rates across the various active faults in the KRB suggest a complex geological history during the Quaternary period. The results show that the vertical uplift rate along the significant active faults range from 0.8 to 2.8 mm/yr,demonstrating the variable tectonic stress regime prevailing in the KRB.The uplift rates constricted from geomorphic and chronological aspects suggest that the tectonic movements within the Kachchh intraplate region is regulated by the fault segments and the present tectonic stress field is in accordance with the encompassing tectonic stress field associated with the northward movement of the Indian plate corresponding to the Eurasian plate. 展开更多

Drainage responds rapidly to tectonic changes and thus it is a potential parameter for teetonogeomorphological analysis. Drainage network of Potwar is a good geological record of movement, displacements, regional uplifts and erosion of the tectonic units. This study focuses on utilizing drainage network extracted from Shuttle Radar Digital Elevation Data (SRTM-DEM) in order to constrain the structure of the Potwar Plateau. SWAN syncline divides Potwar into northern Potwar deformed zone (NPDZ) and southern Potwar platform zone (SPPZ). We extracted the drainage network from DEM and analyzed 112 streams using stream power law. Spatial distribution of concavity and steepness indices were used to prepare uplift rate map for the area. DEM was further utilized to extract lineaments to study the mutual relationship between lineaments and drainage patterns. We compared the local correlation between the extracted lineaments and drainage network of the area that gives us quantitative information and shows promising prospects. The streams in the NPDZ indicate high steepness values as compared to the streams in the SPPZ. The spatial distribution of geomorphic parameters distinctive deformation and uplift rates suggest the among eastern, central and western parts. The local correlation between drainage network and lineaments from DEM is strongly positive in the area within I km of radius. 展开更多

The stream power model was applied to Lushan Mt. in South China in order to verify its capability of interpreting the uplift of a small block mountain. On a log-log plot, the longitudinal profiles of 9 rivers derived from a 30 m DEM exhibit primary characteristics similar to those derived from a 5 m DEM; however, the 5 m DEM clearly reveals more minor knickpoints, and the positions of knickpoints are pinpointed more accurately. All of the studied rivers on the block mountain are in a transient state due to geological perturbations. Some of them exhibit two segments in steady state separated by a slopebreak knickpoint. Such rivers generally develop in a longitudinal valley, which are less perturbed by substrate inhomogeneities. The similar heights of the slope-break knickpoints and the similar uplift rate indicated by the k_(sn) values demonstrate an almost simultaneous headward erosion induced by the fall in base level. This modelling result is consistent with the mode of formation of this particular block mountain. Our study demonstrates that the stream power model is applicable to a small tectonicallyactive massif only if the channel segments are in a steady state. 展开更多

Located at the west of the Linfen basin, the Luoyunshan piedmont fault zone controls the western boundary of the basin. According to the measurements of the terraces in eight gullies along the Luoyunshan fault zone, five levels of terraces, namely T1~T5 have developed in these gullies. The heights of terraces T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 are about 3m, 8~10m, about 20m, about 30m and 40~50m, respectively. The dating data of the terraces and investigation of the faulted landforms show that the Luoyunshan fault zone has experienced much activity since the Late Quaternary. The uplift rate of the terraces was 0.41mm/a since the Middle-Late Pleistocene, and 0.75mm/a since the Holocene. The increasing trend of uplift rate of the terraces along the Luoyunshan fault zone from the Middle-Late Pleistocene to Holocene indicates the tendency of gradual tectonic uplift of the fault zone since the late Quaternary. This is in good agreement with the increasing trend of subsidence rate of the Linfen basin from the Late Pleistocene to Holocene. 展开更多

Late Miocene shortening rate, uplift rate, and inversion rate in the central inversion zone of the Xihu (西湖) depression, East China Sea basin, were independently determined from a large number of 2D reflection seismic data and methods. Shortening rate was estimated from the 2DMOVE balanced cross-section technology, uplift rate was calculated after absolute erosions were determined from seismic data during the uplifting time, and inversion rate was measured using the improved calculation method by Song (1997). The cross correlations among shortening rate, uplift rate, and inversion rate show a good positive relationship, with some differences existing in local areas. This article analyzes the cross correlation between these structural rates and discusses the dynamics of mechanisms for basin inversion and their influence on hydrocarbon accumulation. 展开更多
