Platooning represents one of the key features that connected automated vehicles may possess as it allows multiple automated vehicles to be maneuvered cooperatively with small headways on roads. However, a critical challenge in accomplishing automated vehicle platoons is to deal with the effects of intermittent and sporadic vehicle-to-vehicle data transmissions caused by limited wireless communication resources. This paper addresses the co-design problem of dynamic event-triggered communication scheduling and cooperative adaptive cruise control for a convoy of automated vehicles with diverse spacing policies. The central aim is to achieve automated vehicle platooning under various gap references with desired platoon stability and spacing performance requirements, while simultaneously improving communication efficiency. Toward this aim, a dynamic event-triggered scheduling mechanism is developed such that the intervehicle data transmissions are scheduled dynamically and efficiently over time. Then, a tractable co-design criterion on the existence of both the admissible event-driven cooperative adaptive cruise control law and the desired scheduling mechanism is derived. Finally, comparative simulation results are presented to substantiate the effectiveness and merits of the obtained results. 展开更多

Visible Light Communication(VLC)technology is aggressive research for the next generation of communication.Currently,Radio Frequency(RF)communication has crowed spectrum.An Intelligent Transportation System(ITS)has been improved in the communication network for Vehicle-to-Vehicle(V2 V),Vehicle-to-Infrastructure(V2I),and Infrastructure-to-Vehicle(I2V)by using the visible light spectrum instead of the RF spectrum.This article studies the characterization of Line-of-Sight(LOS)optical performance in an Outdoor Wireless Visible Light Communication(OWVLC)system employing a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output(MIMO)technique for I2V communications in ITS regulations.We design the new configuration of the OWVLC-I2V system,which is an alternative approach to communication for I2V system at nighttime.The results show the Channel Impulse Response(CIR)of the LOS links in visible light communication for I2V system in ITS by investigating the receiver on the vehicle moving along the coverage communication area.Furthermore,the OWVLC-I2V system using the MIMO technique depicts the performance of throughput and Bit Error Rate(BER)vs.vehicle speed while the vehicle passes a street light. 展开更多

This paper addresses the co-design problem of decentralized dynamic event-triggered communication and active suspension control for an in-wheel motor driven electric vehicle equipped with a dynamic damper. The main objective is to simultaneously improve the desired suspension performance caused by various road disturbances and alleviate the network resource utilization for the concerned in-vehicle networked suspension system. First, a T-S fuzzy active suspension model of an electric vehicle under dynamic damping is established. Second,a novel decentralized dynamic event-triggered communication mechanism is developed to regulate each sensor's data transmissions such that sampled data packets on each sensor are scheduled in an independent manner. In contrast to the traditional static triggering mechanisms, a key feature of the proposed mechanism is that the threshold parameter in the event trigger is adjusted adaptively over time to reduce the network resources occupancy. Third, co-design criteria for the desired event-triggered fuzzy controller and dynamic triggering mechanisms are derived. Finally, comprehensive comparative simulation studies of a 3-degrees-of-freedom quarter suspension model are provided under both bump road disturbance and ISO-2631 classified random road disturbance to validate the effectiveness of the proposed co-design approach. It is shown that ride comfort can be greatly improved in either road disturbance case and the suspension deflection, dynamic tyre load and actuator control input are all kept below the prescribed maximum allowable limits, while simultaneously maintaining desirable communication efficiency. 展开更多

The network performance and the unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)number are important objectives when UAVs are placed as communication relays to enhance the multi-agent information exchange.The problem is a non-deterministic polynomial hard(NP-hard)multi-objective optimization problem,instead of generating a Pareto solution,this work focuses on considering both objectives at the same level so as to achieve a balanced solution between them.Based on the property that agents connected to the same UAV are a cluster,two clustering-based algorithms,M-K-means(MKM)and modified fast search and find density of peaks(MFSFDP)methods,are first proposed.Since the former algorithm requires too much computational time and the latter one requires too many relays,an algorithm for the balanced network performance and relay number(BPN)is proposed by discretizing the area to avoid missing the optimal relay positions and defining a new local density function to reflect the network performance metric.Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms are feasible and effective.Comparisons between these algorithms show that the BPN algorithm uses fewer relay UAVs than the MFSFDP and classic set-covering based algorithm,and its computational time is far less than the MKM algorithm. 展开更多

Mavlink is a lightweight and most widely used open-source communication protocol used for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.Multiple UAVs and autopilot systems support it,and it provides bi-directional communication between the UAV and Ground Control Station.The communications contain critical information about the UAV status and basic control commands sent from GCS to UAV and UAV to GCS.In order to increase the transfer speed and efficiency,the Mavlink does not encrypt the messages.As a result,the protocol is vulnerable to various security attacks such as Eavesdropping,GPS Spoofing,and DDoS.In this study,we tackle the problem and secure the Mavlink communication protocol.By leveraging the Mavlink packet’s vulnerabilities,this research work introduces an experiment in which,first,the Mavlink packets are compromised in terms of security requirements based on our threat model.The results show that the protocol is insecure and the attacks carried out are successful.To overcomeMavlink security,an additional security layer is added to encrypt and secure the protocol.An encryption technique is proposed that makes the communication between the UAV and GCS secure.The results show that the Mavlink packets are encrypted using our technique without affecting the performance and efficiency.The results are validated in terms of transfer speed,performance,and efficiency compared to the literature solutions such as MAVSec and benchmarked with the original Mavlink protocol.Our achieved results have significant improvement over the literature and Mavlink in terms of security. 展开更多

Demand for precise vehicle positioning(VP)increases as autonomous vehicles have recently been drawing attention.This paper proposes a scheme for positioning vehicles on the move based on optical camera communication(OCC)technology in the vehicle-to-infrastructure(V2I)environment.Light-emitting diode(LED)streetlights and vehicle cameras are used as transmitters and receivers respectively.Regions of streetlights are detected and traced by examining images that are obtained from cameras of vehicles.Then,a scheme for analyzing visible light data extracted from the images is proposed.The proposed vehicle positioning scheme uses information on angles between vectors that are formed under the collinearity conditions between the absolute coordinates of at least three received streetlights,and the coordinates of an image sensor.The experiments are performed under stationary state and moving state at a speed of 5 and 20 km/h.To verify the reliability of the proposed scheme,a comparison is made between the actual and estimated location of the camera in the stationary state.In addition,the path of a moving vehicle and the estimated path of the vehicle are compared to check the performance of the scheme.The performance of the proposed technique is analyzed and experimental demonstration confirms that the proposed OCC-based VP scheme achieves positioning accuracy of under 1 m. 展开更多

Connected autonomous vehicles(CAVs)are a promising paradigm for implementing intelligent transportation systems.However,in CAVs scenarios,the sensing blind areas cause serious safety hazards.Existing vehicle-to-vehicle(V2V)technology is difficult to break through the sensing blind area and ensure reliable sensing information.To overcome these problems,considering infrastructures as a means to extend the sensing range is feasible based on the integrated sensing and communication(ISAC)technology.The mmWave base station(mmBS)transmits multiple beams consisting of communication beams and sensing beams.The sensing beams are responsible for sensing objects within the CAVs blind area,while the communication beams are responsible for transmitting the sensed information to the CAVs.To reduce the impact of inter-beam interference,a joint multiple beamwidth and power allocation(JMBPA)algorithm is proposed.By maximizing the communication transmission rate under the sensing constraints.The proposed non-convex optimization problem is transformed into a standard difference of two convex functions(D.C.)problem.Finally,the superiority of the lutions.The average transmission rate of communication beams remains over 3.4 Gbps,showcasing a significant improvement compared to other algorithms.Moreover,the satisfaction of sensing services remains steady. 展开更多

CVs share their own position information and surrounding information with other vehicles using Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication. CVs can recognize obstacles on non-line-of-sight (NLoS), which cannot be recognized by autonomous vehicles, and reduce travel time to a destination by cooperative driving. Therefore, CVs are expected to provide safe and efficient transportation. On the other hand, problems of security of V2X communication by CVs have been discussed. Safe and efficient transportation by </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">CVs is on the basis of the assumption that correct vehicle information is </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">shared. If fake vehicle information is shared, it will affect the driving of CVs. In particular, vehicle position faking has been shown that it can induce traffic congestion and accidents, which is a serious problem. </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">In this study, we define position faking by CV as misbehavior and propose a method to detect misbehavior on the basis of changes in vehicle position time series data composed of vehicle position information. As a form of a future traffic system,a connected and automated vehicle(CAV)platoon is a typical nonlinear physical system.CAVs can communicate with each other and exchange information.However,communication failures can change the platoon system status.To characterize this change,a dynamic topology-based car-following model and its generalized form are proposed in this work.Then,a stability analysis method is explored.Finally,taking the dynamic cooperative intelligent driver model(DC-IDM)for example,a series of numerical simulations is conducted to analyze the platoon stability in different communication topology scenarios.The results show that the communication failures reduce the stability,but information from vehicles that are farther ahead and the use of a larger desired time headway can improve stability.Moreover,the critical ratio of communication failures required to ensure stability for different driving parameters is studied in this work. 展开更多

Recently,unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV)or drones are widely employed for several application areas such as surveillance,disaster management,etc.Since UAVs are limited to energy,efficient coordination between them becomes essential to optimally utilize the resources and effective communication among them and base station(BS).Therefore,clustering can be employed as an effective way of accomplishing smart communication systems among multiple UAVs.In this aspect,this paper presents a group teaching optimization algorithm with deep learning enabled smart communication system(GTOADL-SCS)technique for UAV networks.The proposed GTOADL-SCS model encompasses a two stage process namely clustering and classification.At the initial stage,the GTOADL-SCS model includes a GTOA based clustering scheme to elect cluster heads(CHs)and organize clusters.Besides,the GTOADL-SCS model develops a fitness function containing three input parameters as residual energy of UAVs,average neighoring distance,and UAV degree.For classification process,the GTOADLSCS model applies pre-trained densely connected network(DenseNet201)feature extractor with gated recurrent unit(GRU)classifier.For ensuring the enhanced performance of the GTOADL-SCS model,a widespread simulation analysis is performed and the comparative study reported the significant outcomes over the existing approaches with maximum packet delivery ratio(PDR)of 92.60%. 展开更多

Since conventional center-type information delivery systems generate a large load on the communications infrastructure and data center, research efforts have come to be focused on the centerless type. However, existing vehicle probe information delivery systems suffer from various problems including a limited service area, low delivery efficiency, and lack of immediacy in delivery. Our objective in this study is efficient delivery of vehicle probe information as needed. We propose a delivery scheme that uses vehicle-to-vehicle communication, infrastructure-to-vehicle communication, and mobile communication as well as Geo cast. This combined use of multiple communication methods achieves efficient information delivery by changing the communication method to fit the current situation. The results of an evaluation by simulation showed that the proposed scheme could deliver information efficiently in a variety of environments. 展开更多

The communication system is com-posed of tamed spread spectrum modulation and demodulation, frequency hopping modulation and demodulation with synchronization function, 4FSK modulation and demodulation and Rake Receiver. In order to make the system more feasible, underwater channel and the effect of user number on Bit Error Ratio (BER) are also taken into account. In this paper, we propos... Security systems are a necessity for the deployment of smart vehicles in our society. Security in vehicular ad hoe networks is crucial to the reliable exchange of information and control data. In this paper, we propose an intelligent Intrusion Detection System (IDS) to protect the external communication of self-driving and semi self-driving vehicles. This technology has the ability to detect Denial of Service (DOS) and black hole attacks on vehicular ad hoe networks (VANETs). The advantage of the proposed IDS over existing security systems is that it detects attacks before they causes significant damage. The intrusion prediction technique is based on Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and Quadratic Diseriminant Analysis (QDA) which are used to predict attacks based on observed vehicle behavior. We perform simulations using Network Simulator 2 to demonstrate that the IDS achieves a low rate of false alarms and high accuracy in detection. 展开更多

Improvement of integrated battlefield situational awareness in complex environments involving dynamic factors such as restricted communications and electromagnetic interference(EMI)has become a contentious research problem.In certain mission environments,due to the impact of many interference sources on real-time communication or mission requirements such as the need to implement communication regulations,the mission stages are represented as a dynamic combination of several communication-available and communication-unavailable stages.Furthermore,the data interaction between unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)can only be performed in specific communication-available stages.Traditional cooperative search algorithms cannot handle such situations well.To solve this problem,this study constructed a distributed model predictive control(DMPC)architecture for a collaborative control of UAVs and used the Voronoi diagram generation method to re-plan the search areas of all UAVs in real time to avoid repetition of search areas and UAV collisions while improving the search efficiency and safety factor.An attention mechanism ant-colony optimization(AACO)algorithm is proposed for UAV search-control decision planning.The search strategy is adaptively updated by introducing an attention mechanism for regular instruction information,a priori information,and emergent information of the mission to satisfy different search expectations to the maximum extent.Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better search performance than traditional algorithms in restricted communication constraint scenarios. 展开更多

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)are gaining increasing attention in many fields,such as military,logistics,and hazardous site mapping.Utilizing UAVs to assist communications is one of the promising applications and research directions.The future Industrial Internet places higher demands on communication quality.The easy deployment,dynamic mobility,and low cost of UAVs make them a viable tool for wireless communication in the Industrial Internet.Therefore,UAVs are considered as an integral part of Industry 4.0.In this article,three typical use cases of UAVs-assisted communications in Industrial Internet are first summarized.Then,the state-of-the-art technologies for drone-assisted communication in support of the Industrial Internet are presented.According to the current research,it can be assumed that UAV-assisted communication can support the future Industrial Internet to a certain extent.Finally,the potential research directions and open challenges in UAV-assisted communications in the upcoming future Industrial Internet are discussed. 展开更多
