Land-population-industry based village evolution and its influencing factors in the upper Tuojiang River

With economic development and urbanization in China,the rural settlements have experienced great change.To explore the evolution process of rural settlements in terms of land,population and industry can reveal the development law of rural spatial distribution,population structure and industrial economy in different stages and regions.Studying the development status and evolution characteristics of villages in the upper Tuojiang River basin in Southwest China in the past 20 years are of significant value.The upper Tuojiang River basin includes the main types of terrain found in the Southwest region:mountainous,plains,and hills,exhibiting a certain typicality of geographical characteristics.This study took towns and townships at the town-level scale as the basic unit of research,and constructed an evaluation system for village evolution based on'land,population,and industry'.It employed Criteria Importance Through Inter-Criteria Correlation(CRITIC)analysis to examine the characteristics of village evolution in the area from 2000 to 2020,and used geographic detector analysis to identify the leading factors affecting village evolution.The results show that:(1)From 2000 to 2010,villages in the upper Tuojiang River basin experienced significant changes,and the pace of these transformations slowed from 2010 to 2020.(2)From a comprehensive perspective,from 2000 to 2020,villages in hilly areas show a decline,while villages in plain areas near the city center show a positive urbanization development.(3)Road accessibility and distance from the city center are the main factors that explain the spatial differentiation of village evolution degree in the study area.This study elucidates the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of villages in the upper Tuojiang River basin and identifies the primary factors contributing to their changes,which will provide a reference for investigating the development of rural areas in different terrains of Southwest China.

Spatial evolution and spatial production of traditional villages from "backward poverty villages" to "ecologically well-off villages": Experiences from the hinterland of national nature reserves in China

With the rapid urbanization process,the space of traditional villages in China is undergoing significant changes.Studying the spatial evolution of traditional villages is significant in promoting rural spatial transformation and realizing rural revitalization and sustainable rural development.Based on the traceability analysis of spatial production theory,this paper constructed an analytical framework for the spatial production evolution of traditional villages,analyzed the spatial evolution process and characteristics of traditional villages by using buffer analysis,spatial syntax,and other research methods,and revealed the characteristics of the spatial production evolution of traditional villages and the driving mechanism.The results show that:(1)The village spatial formation and development follow the village life cycle theory and usually develop from embryonic villages to diversified and integrated villages;(2)The evolution of village spatial production is characterized by the diversity of material space,the sublimation of daily life space,and the integration of social system space and generalization of emotional space;(3)The evolution of village spatial production from backward and poor village to ecologically well-off village is influenced by a combination of factors;(4)The village has formed a spatial structure of"people-land-scape-culture-industry",realized comprehensive reconstruction and spatial reproduction.The study results reflect the spatial evolution characteristics of traditional villages in mountainous areas in a more comprehensive way,which helps to promote the protection and development of traditional villages in mountainous areas and,to a certain extent,provides a reference for the development of rural revitalization.

Data Collection and Research on the Vitality of Public Space in Traditional Villages: A Case Study of Cuandixia Village

The optimization and renewal of rural space is the foundation for building livable,business friendly and harmonious countryside.Three types of data on the spatial vitality of traditional villages are collected and analyzed.A street and alley axis map model is established using spatial syntax,and the degree of industry aggregation is quantified using POI data,and the results of syntactic calculation are validated with the help of popular review text preferences.Taking Cuandixia Village as an example,this paper found that its public space nodes have a pattern of one axis and scattered points;the street and alley space is well preserved but slightly lacking in transportation;the user group is single and the form is traditional.This paper could provide corresponding suggestions for stimulating the vitality of public spaces in traditional villages,in order to provide inspiration for the revitalization design of public spaces in traditional villages.

A World of Ice and Snow Being also Invaluable Asset:A Case Study of the"Snow Village"

Based on field visit and interview,the current situation of snow village in China is summarized from four aspects:core scenic spots in snow village,skiing industry in snow village,film and television industry in snow village,and ice and snow agritainment.The investigation found that there are still significant problems in homogenization,scenic area infrastructure,and government regulation in snow village.Targeted solutions are proposed from four aspects:tapping internal advantages,strengthening top-level design and infrastructure construction,promoting tourism industry upgrading,and collaborating to innovate the ice and snow tourism supply chain,in order to further promote the economic development of snow village.

Analysis of spatial distribution characteristics and driving factors of ethnicminority villages in China using geospatial technology and statistical models

This study aims to reveal the spatial structural characteristics of 1,652 Ethnic-Minority Villages(EMV)in China and to analyze the mechanisms driving their spatial heterogeneity.EMV are a special type of settlement space that preserve a large number of historical traces of the ethnic culture of ancient China.They are important carriers of China’s excellent traditional culture and are key to the implementation of rural revitalization strategies.In this study,1652 EMV in China were selected as the research subjects.The Nearest Neighbor Index,kernel density,and spatial autocorrelation index were employed to reveal the spatial structural characteristics of minority villages.Neural network models,spatial lag models,and geographical detectors were used to analyze the formation mechanism of spatial heterogeneity in EMV.The results indicate that:(1)EMV exhibit significant spatial differentiation characterized by“single-core with multiple surrounding sub-centers,”“polarization between east and west,”“decreasing quantity from southwest to east coast to northeast to northwest,”and“large dispersion with small agglomeration.”(2)EMV are mainly distributed in areas rich in intangible cultural heritage,with high vegetation coverage and low altitude,far from central cities,and having limited arable land and an underdeveloped economy and transportation,particularly in shaded or riverbank areas.(3)Distance from the nearest river(X3),distance from central cities(X8),national intangible cultural heritage(X9),and NDVI(X10)were the main driving factors affecting the spatial distribution of EMV,whereas elevation(X1)and GDP(X5)had the weakest influence.As EMV are a relatively unique territorial spatial unit,the identification of their spatial heterogeneity characteristics not only deepens the research content of settlement geography,but also involves the assessment,protection,and development of Minority Villages,which is of great significance for the inheritance and utilization of excellent ethnic cultures in the era.

Problem identification and revitalization strategies for the recovery and reconstruction of traditional villages in the Ms 6.8 Luding Earthquake

Post-disaster reconstruction is a topic of global concern,and traditional villages have special heritage attributes and need to face more requirements and obstacles in post-disaster reconstruction.This paper summarizes four concepts based on the research on post-disaster reconstruction both domestically and internationally,as well as the recovery and reconstruction of cultural heritage.Through a field survey of traditional villages in the Ms 6.8 Luding earthquake-stricken area,it is found that there are problems such as insufficient awareness of heritage value,misalignment of scientific reconstruction technology,and insufficient protection of reconstruction elements during the reconstruction process.Traditional villages face the risk of declining or even loss of heritage value.In order to effectively protect traditional villages and inherit the carrier of regional culture,four targeted reconstruction response strategies are proposed,i.e.,to"establish special planning for traditional village preservation","emphasize recovery of the authenticity of village heritage","ensure elements for village heritage recovery"and"promote the activation and utilization of village heritage",based on the problems discovered during the survey and the four concepts summarized in the research on post-disaster reconstruction of traditional villages.The research results hope to provide useful reference for ancient cultural areas affected by earthquakes on how to protect cultural heritage during the post-disaster reconstruction process.

Optimization Study of Active-Passive Heating System Parameters in Village Houses in the Southern Xinjiang Province

Aiming at the problems of large energy consumption and serious pollution of winter heating existing in the rural buildings in Southern Xinjiang,a combined active-passive heating system was proposed,and the simulation software was used to optimize the parameters of the system,according to the parameters obtained from the optimization,a test platform was built and winter heating test was carried out.The simulation results showed that the thickness of the air layer of 75 mm,the total area of the vent holes of 0.24 m^(2),and the thickness of the insulation layer of 120 mm were the optimal construction for the passive part;solar collector area of 28 m^(2),hot water storage tank volume of 1.4 m^(3),mass flow rate of 800 kg/h on the collector side,mass flow rate of 400 kg/h on the heat exchanger side,and output power of auxiliary heat source of 5∼9 kWwere the optimal constructions for active heating system.Test results showed that during the heating period,the system could provide sufficient heat to the room under different heating modes,and the indoor temperature reached over 18°C,which met the heating demand.The economic and environmental benefits of the system were analyzed,and the economic benefits of the systemwere better than coal-fired heating,and the CO_(2) emissionswere reduced by 3,292.25 kg compared with coalfiredheating.The results of the study showed that the combinedactive-passiveheating systemcouldeffectively solve the heating problems existing in rural buildings in Southern Xinjiang,and it also laid the theoretical foundation for the popularization of the combined heating systems.

Research on Digital Protection Strategy of Ancient Village Buildings in Shanxi Province based on Realistic Experience

As a large province with the most cultural relics on the ground in China,Shanxi has a large proportion of ancient villages in the country.In recent years,the state has begun to attach importance to traditional villages,and the number of ancient villages in Shanxi has been on the rise every year.Due to the difficulty of protecting ancient village buildings and the imperfect and imperfect traditional protection methods,the use of digital protection data retention,display and dissemination can play an important role in the protection of ancient villages.Common digital protection can not provide certain experience for ancient villages,but in the process of digital protection,the sense of experience is not strong,and a technology with perfect visual and tactile interaction is urgently needed to realize the realistic cultural experience and realize the real sense of digital protection of ancient villages.

In April 2018,Songyang County in Lishui City,Zhejiang Province,launched the“Hundred Artists Settlement in Songyang Villages Plan,”which invites artists from all over the country,to help with the protection and inheritance of local culture.It is aimed at boosting the development of traditional villages through art.

Research on the Preservation Method of Traditional Village Roof Information:A Case Study of Gubeikou Village

Traditional Chinese villages serve as crucial repositories of traditional culture.However,In China,the urgent task of preserving information about traditional village architecture has arisen due to the degradation of these villages’appearance caused by rapid urbanization in recent years.This paper proposes a method for preserving information about traditional village rooftops based on high spatial resolution remote sensing imagery.Leveraging an improved Mask R-CNN model,the method conducts target recognition on the rooftops of traditional village buildings and generates vectorized representations of these rooftops.The precision rate,recall rate,and F1-score achieved in the experimental results are 93.26%,86.33%,and 92.02%,respectively.These findings indicate the effectiveness of the proposed method in preserving information about traditional village architecture and providing a viable approach to support the sustainable development of traditional villages in China.

High-Resolution Remote Sensing Imagery for the Recognition of Traditional Villages

Traditional Chinese villages,vital carriers of traditional culture,have faced significant alterations due to urbanization in recent years,urgently necessitating artificial intelligence data updates.This study integrates high spatial resolution remote sensing imagery with deep learning techniques,proposing a novel method for identifying rooftops of traditional Chinese village buildings using high-definition remote sensing images.Using 0.54 m spatial resolution imagery of traditional village areas as the data source,this method analyzes the geometric and spectral image characteristics of village building rooftops.It constructs a deep learning feature sample library tailored to the target types.Employing a semantically enhanced version of the improved Mask R-CNN(Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network)for building recognition,the study conducts experiments on localized imagery from different regions.The results demonstrated that the modified Mask R-CNN effectively identifies traditional village building rooftops,achieving an of 0.7520 and an of 0.7400.It improves the current problem of misidentification and missed detection caused by feature heterogeneity.This method offers a viable and effective approach for industrialized data monitoring of traditional villages,contributing to their sustainable development.

Characteristics and Development Strategies of Mountainous Villages under the Influence of Rural Tourism:A Case Study of Guajiayu Village of Pinggu District of Beijing City

Spatial Distribution of Different Types of Villages for Rural Revitalization Strategy and Their Influencing Factors:A Case of Jilin Province,China

Village classification is the first step to implementing China’s rural revitalization(RR)strategy,and understanding the geographic differences in the distribution of village types helps to grasp the pathway of their unique development.This study spatialized9250 villages in Jilin Province(divided into six types)of China,and their distribution characteristics and influencing factors were examined using methods such as kernel density estimation,Ripley’s K function,the co-location quotient,and Geodetector.The results indicate that the spatial distribution balance and density of village types are different.All types of villages show an agglomeration distribution pattern,but the scale and intensity vary.There is a strong spatial association between agglomerative promotion(AP)and stable improvement(SIm)villages,as well as between characteristic protection(CP)and prospering frontier and enriching people(PE)villages.The factors affecting their distribution include terrain undulation,the percentage of arable land,the distance to the county town,road network density,population density,gross domestic product(GDP),and industrial enterprise density.The influencing factors for the distribution of village types are closely related to the function of each village.Based on the differences in the spatial distribution and influencing factors of different village types,policy suggestions are given for classified development.

Resilience of Wengding,the Phoenix Wa traditional village

The village of Wengding,ancestral home of the Wa ethnic group,considered as China’s last primitive tribe,suf-fered near-complete extinction due to a fire incident in 2021.Historical records indicate that stilt-style buildings,also in Wengding,are highly susceptible to fire.Nevertheless,this has not hindered the long-term existence of these distinctive architectural forms.This study analyses the reasons for the sustained existence of the traditional building forms in Wengding,from the perspective of resilience.The findings indicate that the requirements of the traditional nomadic civilization for rapid construction of dwellings,the communal consciousness toward dis-aster resistance,and the implementation of spatially oriented fire protection measures collectively account for the swift recovery and reconstruction observed in Wengding village after the disaster.These aspects are tangible manifestations of the capacity of the village for resilience.Overall,resilience is essential for the sustainability of such traditional villages in the long term.

Spatial distribution and potential poverty-returning factors of former poverty-stricken villages in the Liangshan Mountains,China

Remote mountainous villages are at risk of falling back into poverty,despite having been lifted out of extreme poverty.However,there has been a lack of focus on the factors contributing to povertyreturn in these villages,which making it difficult to understand the risks and their underlying causes.This study investigates the spatial distribution of 546 key assistance villages(KAVs)in the Liangshan mountainous region,a former poverty-stricken area,using the average nearest neighbor(ANN)and kernel density estimation(KDE)methods.Linear regression and geographically weighted regression(GWR)models are then employed to analyze the relationship between the KAVs'economy and potential povertyreturning factors.The results show that KAVs are primarily located in elevation ranges of 1800-2500 m(31.87%),with slopes of 6°-15°(42.67%)and 2-3 km from the township(28.94%).The distribution of KAVs exhibits distinct spatial clustering,forming four gathering areas.Several factors impact the KAVs'economy positively,including the normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI),built-up area,grassland,and education facilities,while elevation has a negative effect.The built-up area has the most critical impact on the rural economy,followed by NDVI and elevation.Additionally,education facilities and grassland areas also have significant effects.The study suggests promoting the Ex-situ Poverty Alleviation Relocation Program(ESPARP)and increasing rural built-up areas,grasslands,and educational facilities as practical measures for preventing poverty return and promoting economic development promotion in remote mountain villages.

The Shaping of Spatial Morphology by Water Systems in Traditional Villages in Southern Hunan, China and Its Mechanism of Action

The abundant water resources, rainy climate and dense water network had deeply influenced the formation and development of traditional villages in the southern Hunan region of China. This paper was adopted buffer zone analysis, categorical statistical analysis, vectorization analysis and data literature analysis, studied the shaping of traditional village site selection, plane form and internal spatial structure by water systems in southern Hunan, China, and the mechanism of their effects. The results showed that: 1) The shaping ability and mechanism of the traditional village water system in Xiangnan area on spatial morphology was mainly based on the function of the water system. 2) The layout and spatial morphology of traditional villages were deeply affected by the width, area and form of water systems in Xiangnan area. 3) Traditional villages gave more consideration to water systems with large watershed areas in site selection. 4) Water systems with small watershed areas generally had a greater impact on the internal structure of traditional villages.

Digital Construction of Rural Landscape Based on DEM:A Case Study of Xiangyu Village of West Beijing

[Objective]The paper uses Geographic Information System(ArcGIS)as a platform to discuss the study of DEM data on the digital construction of rural landscape databases and the coupling relationship in geographic space of rural landscape.The aim is to further expand the coverage of China's land space digitization and provide practical theoretical basis and development possibility of quantitative planning for village level administrative zoning research.[Method]In this paper,Xiangyu Village,Junzhuang Town,Mentougou,West Beijing,is selected as the research object,and the document space database of the study area is constructed by building digital elevation model(DEM),ArcGIS stacked map weighting and visual interpretation methods.Moreover,its elevation equivalence,slope direction,and water flow direction are visually analyzed.[Result]The mountainous terrain and hydrological characteristics of Xiangyu Village are roughly consistent with the village layout;the living environment of Xiangyu Village is consistent with the terrain and texture,and it belongs to the rural landscape system of mountains,valleys and small watersheds.[Conclusion]The results obtained through data visualization analysis are basically consistent with the traditional village planning pattern of Xiangyu Village;the rural landscape based on village level administrative divisions is still in the traditional planning stage,and there is great development space for village level geographic spatial survey.Therefore,it is necessary for relevant practitioners to make more contributions to fill the full coverage of China's land space digitization.

Rural Development Transformation and Social Governance from the Perspective of Specialization:A Case Study of Ruiling Village in Guangzhou City,China

The reorganization of the global production network and the increased mobility of urban-rural elements have accelerated the differentiation of rural spaces,resulting in a trend towards specialization in rural areas.This paper focuses on the concept of specialization,and takes a renowned bonsai specialized village in Guangzhou City,China as a typical case to explore its transformation and development process,action logic and coupling mechanism with the social governance.The results show that:1)the development of rural specialization in Ruiling Village is shaped by several key actors,such as local governments,grassroots organizations,villagers,social organizations,policies,markets and infrastructure.The transfer of these key actors and the reconstruction of actor-networks in different stages have an important influence on the transformation and realization of rural development goals.2)Through subjects-driven,organization management and resource connection,social governance supports the specialization of rural industrial organization,operation,technology and mode.The governance structure shifts from decentralization to networking,refinement and integration.A coupling community of social governance and specialization is created by the social governance system of‘local government-grassroots organizationseconomic cooperatives-villagers’,which links industries,industrial chains and cooperatives.3)Social governance integrates into the value chain extension process of rural specialized development with a central,multi-level organizational structure.It promotes the construction of the whole value chain through organizational planning,resource integration and image shaping,thus realizing the value,branding and organization of the industry,as well as the integration of rural sustainable development and governance mechanism.Social governance has a profound impact on the development of rural specialization in terms of subject,structure and mode,and participates in the construction of the whole value chain of rural areas.This paper provides a new perspective for understanding the coupling effect of social governance in the rural development transformation,and promotes the rural sustainable development and governance.
