However, collecting and annotating images from the real world is too demanding in terms of labor and money investments, and is usually inflexible to build datasets with specific characteristics, such as small area of objects and high occlusion level. Under the framework of Parallel Vision, this paper presents a purposeful way to design artificial scenes and automatically generate virtual images with precise annotations.A virtual dataset named Parallel Eye is built, which can be used for several computer vision tasks. Then, by training the DPM(Deformable parts model) and Faster R-CNN detectors, we prove that the performance of models can be significantly improved by combining Parallel Eye with publicly available real-world datasets during the training phase. In addition, we investigate the potential of testing the trained models from a specific aspect using intentionally designed virtual datasets, in order to discover the flaws of trained models. From the experimental results, we conclude that our virtual dataset is viable to train and test the object detectors.展开更多

Such a trend has led to the rising importance of human-centric performance modeling and assessment within user communities that are increasingly making use of desktop virtualization. In this paper, we present a novel reference architecture and its eas- ily deployable implementation for modeling and assessing objec- tive user quality of experience (QoE) in VDCs. This architec- ture eliminates the need for expensive, time-consuming subjec- tive testing and incorporates finite-state machine representa- tions for user workload generation. It also incorporates slow-mo- tion benchmarking with deep-packet inspection of application task performance affected by QoS variations. In this way, a "composite-quality" metric model of user QoE can be derived. We show how this metric can be customized to a particular user group profile with different application sets and can be used to a) identify dominant performance indicators and troubleshoot bottlenecks and b) obtain both absolute and relative objective user QoE measurements needed for pertinent selection of thin-client encoding configurations in VDCs. We validate our composite-quality modeling and assessment methodology by us- ing subjective and objective user QoE measurements in a re- al-world VDC called VDPilot, which uses RDP and PCoIP thin-client protocols. In our case study, actual users are pres- ent in virtual classrooms within a regional federated university system.展开更多

The proposed design, incorporating two models ( distributlon-supported model and VE-supported model), attempts to represent common functionality, communication issues, and requirements found in multi-operator DVEs. The distribution-supported model concentrates on the introduction of computer-supported collaborative work (CSCW) to realize the coordination of multi-operators, while the VE-supported model concentrates on the utilization of an object-oriented approach to strengthen the expandability and robustness of the system. Wind power generation can generate electricity day and night, and it is relatively more efficient among the renewable energy sources. The penetration level of variable-speed wind turbines continues to increase. The interconnected wind turbines, however, have no inertia and no synchronous power. Such devices can have a serious impact on the transient stability of the power grid system. One solution to stabilize such grid with renewable energy sources is to provide emulated inertia and synchronizing power. We have proposed an optimal design method of current control for virtual synchronous generators. This paper proposes an optimal control method that can follow the virtual generator model under constrains. As a result, it is shown that the proposed system can suppress the peak of the output of semiconductor device under instantaneous output voltage drop.展开更多
