BACKGROUND Virtual reality(VR)has emerged as an innovative technology in endoscopy training, providing a simulated environment that closely resembles real-life scenarios and offering trainees a valuable platform to acquire and enhance their endoscopic skills. This systematic review will critically evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of VR-based training compared to traditional methods.AIM To evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of VR-based training compared to traditional methods.By examining the current state of the field, this review seeks to identify gaps, challenges, and opportunities for further research and implementation of VR in endoscopic training.METHODS The study is a systematic review, following the guidelines for reporting systematic reviews set out by the PRISMA statement.A comprehensive search command was designed and implemented and run in September 2023 to identify relevant studies available, from electronic databases such as PubMed,Scopus,Cochrane, and Google Scholar. The results were systematically reviewed.RESULTS Sixteen articles were included in the final analysis. The total number of participants was 523.Five studies focused on both upper endoscopy and colonoscopy training, two on upper endoscopy training only, eight on colonoscopy training only, and one on sigmoidoscopy training only.Gastrointestinal Mentor virtual endoscopy simulator was commonly used.Fifteen reported positive results, indicating that VR-based training was feasible and acceptable for endoscopy learners.VR technology helped the trainees enhance their skills in manipulating the endoscope, reducing the procedure time or increasing the technical accuracy,in VR scenarios and real patients. Some studies show that the patient discomfort level decreased significantly. However, some studies show there were no significant differences in patient discomfort and pain scores between VR group and other groups.CONCLUSION VR training is effective for endoscopy training. There are several well-designed randomized controlled trials with large sample sizes, proving the potential of this innovative tool. Thus,VR should be more widely adopted in endoscopy training.Furthermore, combining VR training with conventional methods could be a promising approach that should be implemented in training. 展开更多

Training specificity is imperative for successful performance of the elite athlete.Virtual reality(VR)has been successfully applied to a broad range of training domains. However,to date there is little research investigating the use of VR for sport training. The purpose of this study was to address the question of whether virtual reality(VR)training can improve real world hockey shooting performance.Twenty four volunteers were recruited and randomly selected to complete the virtual training intervention or enter a control group with no training.Four primary types of data were collected:(1)participant’s experience with video games and hockey,(2)participant’s motivation toward video game use,(3)participant’s technical performance on real-world hockey,and(4)participant’s technical performance in virtual hockey.One-way multivariate analysis of variance(ANOVA)indicated that the intervention group demonstrated significantly more real-world hockey accuracy(F(1,24)=15.43,p<0.01,E.S.=0.56)while shooting on goal than their control group counterparts(intervention M accuracy=54.17%,SD=12.38,control M accuracy=46.76%,SD=13.45).One-way multivariate analysis of variance(MANOVA)repeated measures indicated significantly higher outcome scores on real-world accuracy(35.42%versus 54.17%;ES=1.52)and velocity(51.10 mph versus 65.50 mph;ES=0.86)of hockey shooting on goal. This research supports the idea that virtual training is an effective tool for increasing real-world hockey skill. 展开更多

The application of helicopter emergency rescue is becoming increasingly widespread, but the flight crew training in this area is still difficult due to high cost and risk.Nevertheless, with the development of Virtual Reality(VR)technology, virtual simulation has become a significant role in crew training of helicopter rescue.During the implementation of VR-based training, how to transform complex real tasks into VR scenarios and how to evaluate the performance of crew are of great importance. To address these issues,a novel VR-based R-E-A-D(Report,Evaluate,Agree,Do)evaluation model for training is proposed, which is suitable for complex missions with multiple tasks, multiple scenarios, and multiple people. Then,a mapping method of VR scenarios is put forward, which can transform the real tasks into virtual scenarios to serve the virtual simulation training. Finally,an experiment is carried out to verify the feasibility of the evaluation method and virtual scenario mapping method. 展开更多

Experimental research with animals can help the prevention, cure, and alleviation of human ailments.Animal research facilities are critical for scientific advancement, but they can also pose a higher risk than other biomedical laboratories.Zoonosis, allergic reactions, bites, cuts, and scratches by animals are all substantial concerns that can occur in animal facilities.Furthermore, human error and unexpected animal behavior pose a risk not just to humans, but also to the environment and the animals themselves. The majority of biosafety and biosecurity training programs focus on clinical and biomedical laboratories dealing with human safety factors, with little emphasis on animal biosafety. The current virtual training was designed to improve biosafety and biosecurity capabilities of animal laboratory personnel, researchers, and veterinarians from different regions of Pakistan. The results revealed that understanding was improved regarding triggers for risk assessment in addition to annual and regular reviews(56%to 69%),biosecurity(21%to 50%),decontamination(17%to 35%),safe handling of sharps(21%to 35%),Dual Use Research of Concern(DURC)(17%to 40%),Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)usage by waste handlers(60.9%to 75%),waste management(56%to 85%),animal biosafety levels(40.57%to 45%),and good microbiological practices and procedures(17%to 35%).To bring human and animal laboratories up to the same level in terms of biosafety and biosecurity,it is critical to focus on areas that have been overlooked in the past.Training programs focusing on animal biosafety should be conducted more frequently to strengthen bio risk management systems in animal research facilities. 展开更多
