Objective:This study aimed to investigate the nurses’perspectives on open family visitation and its barriers and facilitators in neonatal intensive care units(NICUs).Methods:This is a descriptive,cross-sectional stud...Objective:This study aimed to investigate the nurses’perspectives on open family visitation and its barriers and facilitators in neonatal intensive care units(NICUs).Methods:This is a descriptive,cross-sectional study.A total of 113 nurses employed in 3 main NICUs of Tabriz participated in the study through the census sampling method.Nurses’perspectives on open visitation and its facilitators and barriers were assessed and analyzed using the Beliefs and Attitudes toward Visitation in NICU Questionnaire(BAVNIQ)and descriptive and analytical statistics,respectively.Results:Approximately 74%of the nurses who participating in the study had a moderate perspective on open visitation.From the nurses’viewpoint,“Parents’low awareness of sensitivity and hygienic principles of the NICU”was the first(90.3%)barrier,and the 2 factors,namely,“physical structure of the ward/lack of sufficient space”and“far distance between family’s residence and the hospital/having another child,”were the second(86.8%)barrier with an equal percentage.Among the facilitating factors,“Supporting employed parents during the neonate’s hospitalization”and“providing facilities for family accommodation in the hospital”were the first(82.3%)and the second(79.6%)facilitators,respectively,for open visitation.Conclusions:The majority of NICU nurses had a moderate perspective on the family open visitation.This reluctance seems to be originated mainly from the factors inhibiting open visitation,making its implementation challenging for nurses.The perspective of the frontline staff in caring for vulnerable infants on facilitators and barriers to open visitation may help policymakers,managers,and relevant officials in decision-making and implementing new visiting policies in the NICUs.展开更多
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in over 33 million confirmed cases and over 1 million deaths globally,as of 1 October 2020.During the lockdown and restrictions placed on public activities and gatherings,green space...The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in over 33 million confirmed cases and over 1 million deaths globally,as of 1 October 2020.During the lockdown and restrictions placed on public activities and gatherings,green spaces have become one of the only sources of resilience amidst the coronavirus pandemic,in part because of their positive effects on psychological,physical and social cohesion and spiritual wellness.This study analyzes the impacts of COVID-19 and government response policies to the pandemic on park visitation at global,regional and national levels and assesses the importance of parks during this global pandemic.The data we collected primarily from Google’s Community Mobility Reports and the Oxford Coronavirus Government Response Tracker.The results for most countries included in the analysis show that park visitation has increased since February 16th,2020 compared to visitor numbers prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.Restrictions on social gathering,movement,and the closure of workplace and indoor recreational places,are correlated with more visits to parks.Stay-at-home restrictions and government stringency index are negatively associated with park visits at a global scale.Demand from residents for parks and outdoor green spaces has increased since the outbreak began,and highlights the important role and benefits provided by parks,especially urban and community parks,under the COVID-19 pandemic.We provide recommendations for park managers and other decision-makers in terms of park management and planning during health crises,as well as for park design and development.In particular,parks could be utilized during pandemics to increase the physical and mental health and social well-being of individuals.展开更多
Accessibility is a factor affecting national park visitation.However,the effect of accessibility on national park visitation is not fully understood.This paper examines the relationship between U.S.national park visit...Accessibility is a factor affecting national park visitation.However,the effect of accessibility on national park visitation is not fully understood.This paper examines the relationship between U.S.national park visitation and accessibility.First,the global and local accessibility indexes of each park unit are computed based on an accessibility model that takes into account the surrounding population and its proximity to the park unit.Integrated in the model is a distance decay coefficient that is derived from U.S.national park visitor surveys and therefore pertinent to the case of study.Then correlation analysis is performed between park visitation and accessibility based on park types,regions,and visitation types.Results show that total visitation is positively related to accessibility in National Memorials,Military Parks and Battlefield Parks/Sites but negatively related to accessibility in national parks and national monuments.However,recreational overnight stay visits are commonly negatively correlated to accessibility for almost all park types.Moreover,local accessibility index displays enhanced correlation coefficients with improved significance levels in many categories of analysis.Results suggest that historical/cultural national parks which often show positive correlations tend to attract more local visitors,but nature-based parks which mainly show negative correlations tend to attract more distant visitors.展开更多

Genetic variations of lucerne floral properties,including receptacle diameter,coronary length,number of flowers per raceme,number of racemes per twig,number of flowers per square metre,percentage of tripped flowers,nectar production,sugar concentration in nectar and contents of sucrose,fructose and glucose in nectar,have been studied with morphological markers,and floral properties of ten lucerne cultivars were also investigated to determine their role in number of visiting bees and to provide a basis for the evaluation of mutant flowers for visitation by bees. The results showed CV( coefficient of variation) of floral properties was from 0. 80% to 92. 30%,of which the content of glucose was the most significant one with variation from 0. 01 to 0. 53 μmol /L( P 【 0. 05),and the sugar concentration was the most insignificant one( P 】 0. 05). The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted global mobility.‘Lockdowns’and travel bans have been used as control measures by international governments.Consequently,the ways that we use buildings have also been i...The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted global mobility.‘Lockdowns’and travel bans have been used as control measures by international governments.Consequently,the ways that we use buildings have also been impacted by these actions.Thus,this paper explores the roles of heritage sites in a post-COVID-19 pandemic society.This research is part of the Urban Heritage and Community Resilience:Conservation,Tourism,and Pandemic project,and it employs methods such as semistructured interviews,participant observations,archival research,and focus group discussions(FGDs).This paper is based on semistructured interviews conducted with one hundred eighteen participants across ten popular heritage sites in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar,Indonesia.The fndings confrm the debated claim in postdisaster studies asserting that some of these Acehnese heritage sites,especially those imbued with religious values,have become places of resilience.Specifcally,during the pandemic,these sites have facilitated community resilience by helping people feel closer to God.For practising Acehnese Muslims,prayer at home is culturally acceptable,but praying at the mosque,which is one of the essential heritages of the Acehnese,has contributed to and strengthened the sense of community resilience.Therefore,visitation and participation in heritage sites that include experiencing the sense of place and conducting religious and cultural activities is integral to community resilience.展开更多

However, it is not clear whether ecological contingency differentially influences likelihood of hybridization, particularly at ecological margins where parental species may exhibit reduced fitnesses. Moreover, it is unknown whether future ecosystem change will increase the prevalence of hybridization. Ficus heterostyla and F. squamosa are closely related species co-distributed from southern Thailand to southwest China where hybridization, yielding viable seeds, has been documented. As a robust test of ecological factors driving hybridization, we investigated spatial hybridization signatures based on nuclear microsatellites from extensive population sampling across a widespread contact range. Both species showed high population differentiation and strong patterns of isolation by distance. Admixture estimates exposed asymmetric interspecific gene flow.Signatures of hybridization increase significantly towards higher latitude zones, peaking at the northern climatic margins. Geographic variation in reproductive phenology combined with ecologically challenging marginal habitats may promote this phenomenon. Our work is a first systematic evaluation of such patterns in a comprehensive, latitudinally-based clinal context, and indicates that tendency to hybridize appears strongly influenced by environmental conditions. Moreover, that future climate change scenarios will likely alter and possibly augment cases of hybridization at ecosystem scales.展开更多
Aims in heterantherous plants,‘division of labor’among structurally dif-ferent stamens,i.e.pollinating and feeding functions,has been thought to reduce the evolutionary conflict of relying on pollen both as the carr...Aims in heterantherous plants,‘division of labor’among structurally dif-ferent stamens,i.e.pollinating and feeding functions,has been thought to reduce the evolutionary conflict of relying on pollen both as the carrier of male gametes and as the food for pollinators.The key to successful division of labor among different sets of stamens is the size match between stamens and legitimate pollinators,which results in the precise deposition of pollen onto specific locations on pollinator’s body and facilitates cross pollination.However,the potential impact of small illegitimate insects that are ubiquitous dur-ing the pollination process on the plant reproduction in heteranth-erous species has been largely neglected in previous studies and never been demonstrated experimentally.Methods Here,we investigated the functions of three different types of sta-mens in Commelina communis.The pollinator visitation,pollen removal and deposition were compared among flowers with dif-ferent types of anthers emasculated at two natural populations.moreover,the mating systems of C.communis in wild populations were estimated using microsatellite markers.Important Findingsour data showed that the main floral visitors for C.communis at the two studied populations were small illegitimate bees rather than legitimate pollinators,accounting for 77.5 and 92.2%of total flower visits,respectively.Flower manipulations in C.communis demon-strated that the two types of brightly yellow stamens separately func-tioned as‘deceptive attraction’and‘feeding’functions.although the brown inconspicuous stamens of C.communis with the largest amount of fertile pollen had the potential function in offering pollen for cross pollination,the high ratio of illegitimate visitation by small bees significantly affected the dispersal and deposition of pollen from the pollinating anthers,and subsequently decreased the levels of outcrossing(tm=0.23-0.32)in wild populations.our work further confirmed that the size match between pollinators and the floral morphology is the prerequisite to successfully fulfill the functional differentiation among different sets of stamens in heterantherous plants.local high ratio of illegitimate visitation by size unmatched insects could significantly weaken the potential functions of heteranthery,affecting the dispersal and deposition of functional pollen in heterantherous plants and further the whole mating systems.展开更多

Background:Agarwood,primarily derived from the Aquilaria and Gyrinops genera,holds significant economic importance.However,there is a lack of comprehensive investigations providing guidance to importing nations regard...Background:Agarwood,primarily derived from the Aquilaria and Gyrinops genera,holds significant economic importance.However,there is a lack of comprehensive investigations providing guidance to importing nations regarding cultivation quantities and expected yields of Agarwood from distinct species.This study aims to address this gap by exploring the historical context and trade evolution of Agarwood,highlighting its global importance,and the challenges associated with securing accurate species information.Method:On-site visits to Agarwood cultivation sites were conducted to gain a nuanced understanding of Aquilaria species and their cultivation requirements.Additionally,a thorough analysis of global export and import data for Agarwood products over the last decade was undertaken.Results:China Mainland emerged as the leading exporter of Agarwood,averaging an annual export value of USD 1 million.India’s substantial exports challenge the prevailing notion of limited Agarwood production within its borders.Hong Kong and Singapore are pivotal distribution hubs,while Hong Kong and Taipei feature prominently as import destinations.Our analysis uncovers anomalies in the representation of Agarwood producers from 2001 to 2008,suggesting potential misclassification of Aquilaria Agarwood as Gyrinops in global export information.These findings underscore the urgency of investigating classification and reporting practices in the Agarwood trade.Furthermore,A.filaria emerges as a notable source,while A.malaccensis is decline in prominence.Conclusion:This study provides crucial insights for policymakers,stakeholders,and industry players seeking to make informed decisions in the Agarwood trade landscape.The results highlight the need for accurate species identification,classification,and reporting practices to ensure sustainable cultivation and trade of Agarwood.展开更多

Background:Grazing is an important management tool for maintaining healthy ecosystems and improving rangelands productivity.However,its effectiveness for this purpose is dependent on timing and frequency of grazing,as...Background:Grazing is an important management tool for maintaining healthy ecosystems and improving rangelands productivity.However,its effectiveness for this purpose is dependent on timing and frequency of grazing,as well as the type of animal.Understanding the effects of grazing management on rangeland ecosystems is critical in ensuring sustainable use of grazing resources and enhanced livestock production.This study assessed the effects of holistic grazing on animal productivity and range use pattern in Laikipia County of Kenya.Results:The results revealed that the average milk yields(106±20.1)of animals in holistic grazing areas(HGA)were significantly(p<0.05)higher than those in traditional grazing areas(TGA)(101±20.1).Weight gain of animals in HGA was significantly(0.13±0.01)higher as compared to those in TGA(0.07±0.01).The number of livestock grazing was significantly(p<0.05)higher in HGA(74±10%)than those in TGA(57±10%).In addition,the number of wildlife grazing was significantly(p<0.05)higher in HGA(74±18%)than in TGA(32±18%).Conclusions:The results indicate that holistic grazing management has the potential to improve animal performance,as well as condition of range areas as evident in the preference shown by frequent visits to HGA by both livestock and wildlife.展开更多

Despite the progress in obstetrical and pediatric care that has occurred in recent years, twin delivery is still associated with high maternal morbidity and perinatal mortality. Few recent studies have focused on the complications and risk factors associated with complications of twin birth in our environment. The objective of our study was to identify the complications of twin birth and the factors associated with them. Methodology: We carried out a cross-sectional analytical study. Data collection was prospective, over a period of 4 months (January 1, 2022 to April 30, 2022), at the maternity units of the Gyneco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital of Yaoundé and the Central Hospital of Yaoundé. The study population included all pregnant women who gave birth to twins during our study period at these hospitals. Data analysis was done using the SPSS software (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) version 23.0. The Chi-square test was used to compare proportions and the student’s t test to compare means. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: In total, we recorded 37 complicated twin deliveries out of a total of 66 twin deliveries. This corresponded to a complication rate of 56%. Maternal complications occurred in 11.38% of cases, the majority being soft tissue lesions (4.54%), and postpartum hemorrhage (4.54%). Perinatal complications at the time of delivery were dominated by early neonatal infections (12.12%), non-reassuring fetal condition (10.6%) and intrauterine fetal death (6.06%). Factors associated with complications of twin births after univariate analysis were: maternal age ≤ 30 years (OR = 8.15;CI = 9.78 - 71.06;P = 0.03), being a student, (OR = 5.09;CI = 3.65 - 7.10;P = 0.00), primary level of education (OR = 1.48;CI = 3.30 - 6.63;P = 0.00), having less than four prenatal contacts (OR = 5.76;CI = 12.2 - 27, 24;P = 0.02), lack of ultrasound assessments (OR = 2.65;CI = 1.08 - 4.65, P = 0.04), diagnosis of twinning at labor (P = 0.03), admission for preeclampsia and eclampsia (OR = 2.01;CI = 1.24 - 5.9;P = 0.04), qualification of birth attendant as midwife (OR = 2.33;CI = 6, 38 - 8.50;P = 0.00), delivery time greater than 15 minutes for the second twin (OR = 2.45;CI = 1.14 - 5.26;P = 0.019). Conclusion: twin birth remains associated with high maternal and neonatal morbidity in our environment. The rate of maternal-fetal complications is 56% in our series. Post-partum hemorrhage, soft tissue injury and early neonatal infections are the main complications. These are closely linked to a number of factors whose control would improve the prognosis of twin birth.展开更多

文摘Accessibility is a factor affecting national park visitation.However,the effect of accessibility on national park visitation is not fully understood.This paper examines the relationship between U.S.national park visitation and accessibility.First,the global and local accessibility indexes of each park unit are computed based on an accessibility model that takes into account the surrounding population and its proximity to the park unit.Integrated in the model is a distance decay coefficient that is derived from U.S.national park visitor surveys and therefore pertinent to the case of study.Then correlation analysis is performed between park visitation and accessibility based on park types,regions,and visitation types.Results show that total visitation is positively related to accessibility in National Memorials,Military Parks and Battlefield Parks/Sites but negatively related to accessibility in national parks and national monuments.However,recreational overnight stay visits are commonly negatively correlated to accessibility for almost all park types.Moreover,local accessibility index displays enhanced correlation coefficients with improved significance levels in many categories of analysis.Results suggest that historical/cultural national parks which often show positive correlations tend to attract more local visitors,but nature-based parks which mainly show negative correlations tend to attract more distant visitors.

文摘Lucerne( Medicago sativa L.) is a plant of strict allogamy,and its pollination relies on bees mainly. Genetic variations of lucerne floral properties,including receptacle diameter,coronary length,number of flowers per raceme,number of racemes per twig,number of flowers per square metre,percentage of tripped flowers,nectar production,sugar concentration in nectar and contents of sucrose,fructose and glucose in nectar,have been studied with morphological markers,and floral properties of ten lucerne cultivars were also investigated to determine their role in number of visiting bees and to provide a basis for the evaluation of mutant flowers for visitation by bees. The results showed CV( coefficient of variation) of floral properties was from 0. 80% to 92. 30%,of which the content of glucose was the most significant one with variation from 0. 01 to 0. 53 μmol /L( P 【 0. 05),and the sugar concentration was the most insignificant one( P 】 0. 05). The significant order of floral properties affecting the number of visiting bees was that the nectar production per square metre( r = 0. 93,P 【 0. 01) was in the first place,followed by the number of flowers per square metre( r = 0. 92,P 【 0. 01),sucrose concentration of nectar sugar( r = 0. 82,P 【 0. 05),coronary length( r = 0. 77,P 【 0. 05) and nectar production per flower( r = 0. 71,P 【 0. 05).

文摘The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted global mobility.‘Lockdowns’and travel bans have been used as control measures by international governments.Consequently,the ways that we use buildings have also been impacted by these actions.Thus,this paper explores the roles of heritage sites in a post-COVID-19 pandemic society.This research is part of the Urban Heritage and Community Resilience:Conservation,Tourism,and Pandemic project,and it employs methods such as semistructured interviews,participant observations,archival research,and focus group discussions(FGDs).This paper is based on semistructured interviews conducted with one hundred eighteen participants across ten popular heritage sites in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar,Indonesia.The fndings confrm the debated claim in postdisaster studies asserting that some of these Acehnese heritage sites,especially those imbued with religious values,have become places of resilience.Specifcally,during the pandemic,these sites have facilitated community resilience by helping people feel closer to God.For practising Acehnese Muslims,prayer at home is culturally acceptable,but praying at the mosque,which is one of the essential heritages of the Acehnese,has contributed to and strengthened the sense of community resilience.Therefore,visitation and participation in heritage sites that include experiencing the sense of place and conducting religious and cultural activities is integral to community resilience.

文摘Hybridization plays a significant role in biological evolution. However, it is not clear whether ecological contingency differentially influences likelihood of hybridization, particularly at ecological margins where parental species may exhibit reduced fitnesses. Moreover, it is unknown whether future ecosystem change will increase the prevalence of hybridization. Ficus heterostyla and F. squamosa are closely related species co-distributed from southern Thailand to southwest China where hybridization, yielding viable seeds, has been documented. As a robust test of ecological factors driving hybridization, we investigated spatial hybridization signatures based on nuclear microsatellites from extensive population sampling across a widespread contact range. Both species showed high population differentiation and strong patterns of isolation by distance. Admixture estimates exposed asymmetric interspecific gene flow.Signatures of hybridization increase significantly towards higher latitude zones, peaking at the northern climatic margins. Geographic variation in reproductive phenology combined with ecologically challenging marginal habitats may promote this phenomenon. Our work is a first systematic evaluation of such patterns in a comprehensive, latitudinally-based clinal context, and indicates that tendency to hybridize appears strongly influenced by environmental conditions. Moreover, that future climate change scenarios will likely alter and possibly augment cases of hybridization at ecosystem scales.

文摘Aims in heterantherous plants,‘division of labor’among structurally dif-ferent stamens,i.e.pollinating and feeding functions,has been thought to reduce the evolutionary conflict of relying on pollen both as the carrier of male gametes and as the food for pollinators.The key to successful division of labor among different sets of stamens is the size match between stamens and legitimate pollinators,which results in the precise deposition of pollen onto specific locations on pollinator’s body and facilitates cross pollination.However,the potential impact of small illegitimate insects that are ubiquitous dur-ing the pollination process on the plant reproduction in heteranth-erous species has been largely neglected in previous studies and never been demonstrated experimentally.Methods Here,we investigated the functions of three different types of sta-mens in Commelina communis.The pollinator visitation,pollen removal and deposition were compared among flowers with dif-ferent types of anthers emasculated at two natural populations.moreover,the mating systems of C.communis in wild populations were estimated using microsatellite markers.Important Findingsour data showed that the main floral visitors for C.communis at the two studied populations were small illegitimate bees rather than legitimate pollinators,accounting for 77.5 and 92.2%of total flower visits,respectively.Flower manipulations in C.communis demon-strated that the two types of brightly yellow stamens separately func-tioned as‘deceptive attraction’and‘feeding’functions.although the brown inconspicuous stamens of C.communis with the largest amount of fertile pollen had the potential function in offering pollen for cross pollination,the high ratio of illegitimate visitation by small bees significantly affected the dispersal and deposition of pollen from the pollinating anthers,and subsequently decreased the levels of outcrossing(tm=0.23-0.32)in wild populations.our work further confirmed that the size match between pollinators and the floral morphology is the prerequisite to successfully fulfill the functional differentiation among different sets of stamens in heterantherous plants.local high ratio of illegitimate visitation by size unmatched insects could significantly weaken the potential functions of heteranthery,affecting the dispersal and deposition of functional pollen in heterantherous plants and further the whole mating systems.

文摘Background:Agarwood,primarily derived from the Aquilaria and Gyrinops genera,holds significant economic importance.However,there is a lack of comprehensive investigations providing guidance to importing nations regarding cultivation quantities and expected yields of Agarwood from distinct species.This study aims to address this gap by exploring the historical context and trade evolution of Agarwood,highlighting its global importance,and the challenges associated with securing accurate species information.Method:On-site visits to Agarwood cultivation sites were conducted to gain a nuanced understanding of Aquilaria species and their cultivation requirements.Additionally,a thorough analysis of global export and import data for Agarwood products over the last decade was undertaken.Results:China Mainland emerged as the leading exporter of Agarwood,averaging an annual export value of USD 1 million.India’s substantial exports challenge the prevailing notion of limited Agarwood production within its borders.Hong Kong and Singapore are pivotal distribution hubs,while Hong Kong and Taipei feature prominently as import destinations.Our analysis uncovers anomalies in the representation of Agarwood producers from 2001 to 2008,suggesting potential misclassification of Aquilaria Agarwood as Gyrinops in global export information.These findings underscore the urgency of investigating classification and reporting practices in the Agarwood trade.Furthermore,A.filaria emerges as a notable source,while A.malaccensis is decline in prominence.Conclusion:This study provides crucial insights for policymakers,stakeholders,and industry players seeking to make informed decisions in the Agarwood trade landscape.The results highlight the need for accurate species identification,classification,and reporting practices to ensure sustainable cultivation and trade of Agarwood.

This paper reviews the current state of letters and visits information construction, identifies challenges and problems in system integration, presents integration ideas for existing systems, and proposes an innovative approach to letters and visits system integration. 文摘Background:Grazing is an important management tool for maintaining healthy ecosystems and improving rangelands productivity.However,its effectiveness for this purpose is dependent on timing and frequency of grazing,as well as the type of animal.Understanding the effects of grazing management on rangeland ecosystems is critical in ensuring sustainable use of grazing resources and enhanced livestock production.This study assessed the effects of holistic grazing on animal productivity and range use pattern in Laikipia County of Kenya.Results:The results revealed that the average milk yields(106±20.1)of animals in holistic grazing areas(HGA)were significantly(p<0.05)higher than those in traditional grazing areas(TGA)(101±20.1).Weight gain of animals in HGA was significantly(0.13±0.01)higher as compared to those in TGA(0.07±0.01).The number of livestock grazing was significantly(p<0.05)higher in HGA(74±10%)than those in TGA(57±10%).In addition,the number of wildlife grazing was significantly(p<0.05)higher in HGA(74±18%)than in TGA(32±18%).Conclusions:The results indicate that holistic grazing management has the potential to improve animal performance,as well as condition of range areas as evident in the preference shown by frequent visits to HGA by both livestock and wildlife.

文摘Background: Twin birth is considered a high-risk obstetrical situation. Despite the progress in obstetrical and pediatric care that has occurred in recent years, twin delivery is still associated with high maternal morbidity and perinatal mortality. Few recent studies have focused on the complications and risk factors associated with complications of twin birth in our environment. The objective of our study was to identify the complications of twin birth and the factors associated with them. Methodology: We carried out a cross-sectional analytical study. Data collection was prospective, over a period of 4 months (January 1, 2022 to April 30, 2022), at the maternity units of the Gyneco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital of Yaoundé and the Central Hospital of Yaoundé. The study population included all pregnant women who gave birth to twins during our study period at these hospitals. Data analysis was done using the SPSS software (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) version 23.0. The Chi-square test was used to compare proportions and the student’s t test to compare means. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: In total, we recorded 37 complicated twin deliveries out of a total of 66 twin deliveries. This corresponded to a complication rate of 56%. Maternal complications occurred in 11.38% of cases, the majority being soft tissue lesions (4.54%), and postpartum hemorrhage (4.54%). Perinatal complications at the time of delivery were dominated by early neonatal infections (12.12%), non-reassuring fetal condition (10.6%) and intrauterine fetal death (6.06%). Factors associated with complications of twin births after univariate analysis were: maternal age ≤ 30 years (OR = 8.15;CI = 9.78 - 71.06;P = 0.03), being a student, (OR = 5.09;CI = 3.65 - 7.10;P = 0.00), primary level of education (OR = 1.48;CI = 3.30 - 6.63;P = 0.00), having less than four prenatal contacts (OR = 5.76;CI = 12.2 - 27, 24;P = 0.02), lack of ultrasound assessments (OR = 2.65;CI = 1.08 - 4.65, P = 0.04), diagnosis of twinning at labor (P = 0.03), admission for preeclampsia and eclampsia (OR = 2.01;CI = 1.24 - 5.9;P = 0.04), qualification of birth attendant as midwife (OR = 2.33;CI = 6, 38 - 8.50;P = 0.00), delivery time greater than 15 minutes for the second twin (OR = 2.45;CI = 1.14 - 5.26;P = 0.019). Conclusion: twin birth remains associated with high maternal and neonatal morbidity in our environment. The rate of maternal-fetal complications is 56% in our series. Post-partum hemorrhage, soft tissue injury and early neonatal infections are the main complications. These are closely linked to a number of factors whose control would improve the prognosis of twin birth.
