Acoustic modal behavior is reported for an L-shape hydrophone array during the passage of a strong nonlinear internal wave packet. Acoustic track is nearly parallel to the front of nonlinear internal waves. Through modal decomposition at the vertical array, acoustic modes are identified. Modal evolution along the horizontal array then is examined during a passing internal wave. Strong intensity fluctuations of individual modes are observed before and during the internal waves packet passes the fixed acoustic track showing a detailed evolution of the waveguide modal behavior. Acoustic refraction created either uneven distribution of modal energy over the horizontal array or additional returns observable at the entire L-shape array. Acoustic ray-mode simulations are used to phenomenologically explain the observed modal behavior. 展开更多

Compressed Sensing: Optimized Overcomplete Dictionary for Underwater Acoustic Channel Estimation 被引量:3

Compressed Sensing (CS) offers a method to solve the channel estimation problems for an underwater acoustic system, based on the existence of a sparse representation of the treated signal and an overcomplete dictionary with a set of non-orthogonal bases. In this paper, we proposed a new approach to optimize dictionaries by decreasing the average measure of the mutual coherence of the effective dictionary. A fixed link between the average mutual coherence and the CS perforrmnce is indicated by designing three factors: operating bandwidth, the number of pilot subcarriers, and coherence bandwidth. Both the Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) and the Basis Pursuit De-Noising (BPDN) are compared to the Dantzig Selector (DS) for different Signal Noise Ratio (SNR) and shown to benefit from the newly designed dictionary. Nurnerical sinmlations and experimental data of an OFDM receiver are used to evaluate the proposed method in comparison with the conventional LeastSquare (LS) estirmtor. The results show that the dictionary with a better condition considerably improves the perforrmnce of the channel estimation. 展开更多

The horizontal-longitudinal correlations of the acoustic field in deep water are investigated based on the experi- mental data obtained in the South China Sea. It is shown that the horizontal-longitudinal correlation coefficients in the convergence zone are high, and the correlation length is consistent with the convergence zone width, which depends on the receiver depth and range. The horizontal-longitudinal correlation coefficients in the convergence zone also have a division structure for the deeper receiver. The signals from the second part of the convergence zone are still correlated with the reference signal in the first part. The horizontal-longitudinal correlation coeffi- cients in the shadow zone are lower than that in the convergence zone, and the correlation length in the shadow zone is also much shorter than that in the convergence zone. The numerical simulation results by using the normal modes theory are qualitatively consistent with the experimental results. 展开更多

The effects of the seabed sediment parametersand center frequency of the source on the low frequency acoustic wave propagation in shallowwater are investigated. The conclusion is that the wave groups received in far field are thoseof the mode waves of the source center frequency. The possibility for inversely deducing thecompressional and shear sound speeds of sediment using the least square optimum through themeasured group velocities of a selected mode at different frequencies is discussed. 展开更多

To obtain a universal model solving the uncertain acoustic field in shallow water, a non-intrusive model coupled polynomial chaos expansion (PCE) method with Helmholtz equa- tion is established, in which the polynomial coefficients are solved by probabilistic collocation method (PCM). For the cases of Pekeris waveguide which have uncertainties in depth of water column, in both sound speed profile and depth of water column, and for the case of thermocline with lower limit depth uncertain, probability density functions (PDF) of transmission loss (TL) are calculated. The results show that the proposed model is universal for the acoustic propa- gation codes with high computational efficiency and accuracy, and can be applied to study the uncertainty of acoustic propagation in the shallow water en^-ironment with multiple parameters uncertain. 展开更多

The spatial coherence of sound field in the reflection area of deep-water bottom is studied by analyzing the data of an acoustic propagation experiment conducted in the South China Sea. Some different oscillation patterns of the measured horizontal longitudinal correla- tions of acoustic field are observed for two different tracks in the flat bottom and the uneven bottom environments when the source distance ranges from 29 km to 35 km. Numerical analysis based on the ray theory is carried on to explain the causes of the differences. The experimental and mlmerical results show that the travel time differences between the one-bottom-reflection (1BR) rays, which make a major contribution to the sound field of the 1BR area in flat bottom environment, decrease gradually with increasing horizontal distance. Then the phase of the interference cyclically changes within 27r, leading to the correlations' periodical oscillation in deep water with flat bottom. In the uneven bottom environment, however, due to the reflection- blockage effects of the sea hill on the 1BR sound beams, the sound transmission losses (TLs) in- crease significantly in the reflection area of the sea hill. What's more, the horizontal-longitudinal correlations decreasing slightly in general don't show obvious cyclical oscillation any longer in the corresponding reflection area because of the complex interference of the relatively more eigenrays. This work is of significance to analyze the detection performance of the sonar array in deep water with the complicated bathymetry environment. 展开更多

Which can be used to guide acoustic measurements with limited horizontal distances. Some necessary approximations are taken for a concise expression. The analytic for- mulas represent the quantitative relationships between the interference-pattern and the signal frequency, bandwidth, depth of source and horizontal distance. Monofrequent signals, com- plicated signals and frequency-modulated signals are all studied. Several inferences are also deduced from the formulas. Both numerical simulations and experiment data are presented to prove that these formulas and their inferences can describe the critical characters of the acoustic interference pattern in the waveguide with a satisfying precision. 展开更多
