The purpose of this research is to improve the retrieval accuracy for the suspended sediment concentration(SSC) from in situ and satellite remote sensing measurements in turbid East China estuarine and coastal waters. For this aim, three important tasks are formulated and solved: 1) an estimation of remote-sensing reflectance spectra R_(rs)(λ) after atmospheric correction; 2) an estimation of R_(rs)(λ) from the radiometric signals above the air-water surface; and 3) an estimation of SSC from R_(rs)(λ). Six different models for radiometric R_(rs)(λ) determination and 28 models for SSC versus R_(rs)(λ) are analyzed based on the field observations made in the Changjiang River estuary and its adjacent coastal area. The SSC images based on the above-mentioned analysis are generated for the area. 展开更多

Wet path delay caused by tropospheric water vapor must be considered before altimeter data are used in oceanic application. This paper analyzed several methods of atmosphere water range correction (AWRC) using Seasat, Geosat, TOPEX and ERS-1 data, especially the calculated delay path using brightness temperature of TMR on TOPEX and EMR on ERS-1; and discussed some other problems of AWRC. 展开更多

Identification and classification, as well as mapping of marine habitats, are of primary importance to plan management activities, especially in disturbed ecosystems like the ones in the marine areas of Bahrain. Remotely sensed Landsat-8 imagery coupled with field survey was used to identify, classify and map the benthic habitats in Bahrain marine area. The used geospatial techniques include advanced image processing procedures, which comprise of radiometric and atmospheric corrections, sun glint removal, water depth correction and image classification. Extensive ground-truthing analyses through in-situ field surveys by a team of scuba divers were conducted in October 2014 and June 2015 to inform and refine the classifications. The variables collected from this survey included physical and chemical characteristics of the water, habitat type, substrata, fauna and flora. A total of 176 field points were collected and utilized to perform an accurate assessment of the image classification. Initial habitat classification resulted in 20 habitat categories. However, due to the inability of the Landsat-8 sensors to accurately discriminate that level of classification, categories were merged into seven classes. The derived map shows that the benthic marine habitats of Bahrain consist of deep water (2,523 km2), rock (1,738 km2), sand (1,191 km2), deep water/sand (1,006 km2), algae (922 km2), seagrass (591 km2) and corals (275.50 km2). Although limited by the spatial and spectral resolutions of Landsat 8, the used methods produced a suitable map of the benthic habitats within the marine area of Bahrain with an overall accuracy of 84.1%. The use of very high spatial resolution satellite imagery will most likely increase such accuracy significantly. 展开更多

Changes in barometric pressure can affect the micro-dynamic state of groundwater level. The groundwater level data carry a lot of important information of tectonic activity and earthquakes. It is very significant to eliminate the barometric pressure effects from the groundwater level data in order to recognize seismic anomalies effectively. With the analysis of the main influential constituents of barometric pressure and their changes,we can have a better understanding of the changes of the aquifer medium, which can provide useful information for earthquake prediction.Taking the May 12,2008 Wenchuan earthquake as an example, this paper deals with the influence of barometric pressure on groundwater level based on observational data from Nanxi,Qionglai and Chaohu wells. The methods of the linear regression and the deconvolution regression were employed to remove the barometric pressure from the groundwater level data. The harmonic analysis and the spectral analysis were used to recognize the main influential waves of barometric pressure effect.A comparison was conducted on the main influential waves before and after the earthquake. The results showed that the main influential waves of barometric pressure effect changed and the amplitudes of all constituents also changed. This phenomenon may result from the characteristics of the influential constituents of pressure,or from the changes of the aquifer medium, which were caused by the earthquake. 展开更多
