We are concerned with the derivation and analysis of one-dimensional hyperbolic systems of conservation laws modelling fluid flows such as the blood flow through compliant axisyminetric vessels. Early models derived are nonconservative and/or nonho- mogeneous with measure source terms, which are endowed with infinitely many Riemann solutions for some Riemann data. In this paper, we derive a one-dimensional hyperbolic system that is conservative and homogeneous. Moreover, there exists a unique global Riemann solution for the Riemann problem for two vessels with arbitrarily large Riemann data, under a natural stability entropy criterion. The Riemann solutions may consist of four waves for some cases. The system can also be written as a 3 × 3 system for which strict hyperbolicity fails and the standing waves can be regarded as the contact discontinuities corresponding to the second family with zero eigenvalue. 展开更多

A P and S wave velocity model is obtained for the crust in the region along the Longmenshan fault zone, Sichuan Province, China, by using data from a refraction profiling survey carried out in this region and those from local earthquakes. 202 local earthquakes along the fault zone are based on this velocity model, location errors being estimated to be about 1.5 km. The present relocations fairly improved the accuracy of hypocenter locations for earthquakes in this area, which is recognized from small scatter of data in the arrival time distance diagram compared with that for the original locations in the Earthquake Catalogue of Sichuan Seismic Network. The obtained hypocenter distribution shows that shallow earthquakes, confined to the upper crust in the depth range from 3 km to 22 km, are actively occurring along the main fault of the Longmenshan fault zone. The velocity model and the location method are presently used quite effective for precisely locating local earthquakes such as those in Sichuan Province. Installation of these with the real time processing system developed by Tohoku University in the Sichuan Telemetered Seismic Network would help to improve the location accuracy of events beneath the network. 展开更多

Wave propagation in a piezoelectric layered structure of a film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR/ is studied. The accurate results of dispersion relation are calculated using the proposed elastic electrode model for both electroded and unelectroded layered plates. The differences of calculated cut-off frequencies between the current elastic electrode model and the simplified inertial electrode model (often used in the quartz resonator analysis) are illustrated in detail, which shows that an elastic electrode model is indeed needed for the accurate analysis of FBAR. These results can be used as an accurate criterion to calibrate the 2-D theoretical model for a real finite-size structure of FBAR. 展开更多

Wind, the result of earth rotation and other processes, inaugurate the phenomenon of oceanic internal waves(OIWs), including driving turbulence, affecting nutrient and biomass distribution, and resuspending sediment. Therefore, a good understanding to OIWs' characters becomes a vital component to enhance its monitoring and utilization. The parameter inversion was conducted in the article for the OIW based on the empirical mode decomposition(EMD) method. The experimental data, the advanced synthetic aperture radar(ASAR) image, was captured in Dongsha Islands surrounding area on July 22, 2011. Considering the formation mechanism of internal waves, two important issues in the EMD method-the curve fitting and end effects-were studied. After comparing different algorithms, the cubic spline interpolation(CSI) was used for curve fitting and the boundary full-wave(BFW) method was applied to inhibit the end effects. Used this inversion method, the internal wave signal was extracted from the ASAR image, the distance of the internal wave between peak and trough was calculated, and the half-width of soliton was obtained as well. In addition, the inversion result is consistent with the previous experimental findings, which indicates the effectiveness of our algorithm. 展开更多
