Although it can analyze signals with steady and transitory properties, it has limits. The Wavelet Packet Decomposition (WPD) is a novel technique that we suggest in this study as a way to improve the Fourier Transform and get beyond these drawbacks. In this experiment, we specifically considered the utilization of Daubechies level 4 for the wavelet transformation. The choice of Daubechies level 4 was motivated by several reasons. Daubechies wavelets are known for their compact support, orthogonality, and good time-frequency localization. By choosing Daubechies level 4, we aimed to strike a balance between preserving important transient information and avoiding excessive noise or oversmoothing in the transformed signal. Then we compared the outcomes of our suggested approach to the conventional Fourier Transform using a non-stationary signal. The findings demonstrated that the suggested method offered a more accurate representation of non-stationary and transient signals in the frequency domain. Our method precisely showed a 12% reduction in MSE and a 3% rise in PSNR for the standard Fourier transform, as well as a 35% decrease in MSE and an 8% increase in PSNR for voice signals when compared to the traditional wavelet packet decomposition method.展开更多

The ultrasound pulse is estimated using higher-order statistics, and Wiener filter is used to obtain the ultrasonic reflectivity function through wavelet-based models. A new approach to the parameter estimation of the inverse filtering step is proposed in the nondestructive evaluation field, which is based on the theory of Fourier-Wavelet regularized deconvolution (ForWaRD). This new approach can be viewed as a solution to the open problem of adaptation of the ForWaRD framework to perform the convolution kernel estimation and deconvolution interdependently. The results indicate stable solutions of the esti- mated pulse and an improvement in the radio-frequency (RF) signal taking into account its signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and axial resolution. Simulations and experiments showed that the proposed approach can provide robust and optimal estimates of the reflectivity function.展开更多

After surface EMG (SEMG) signal was decomposed to the fourth resolution level with wavelet packet transform (WPT), its whole scaling space (with frequencies in the interval (0Hz, 500Hz]) was divided into16 frequency bands (FB). Then wavelet coefficient entropy (WCE) of every FB was calculated and corre-spondingly marked with WCE(n) (from the nth FB, n=1,2,…16). Lastly, some WCE(n) were chosen to form WCE feature vector, which was used to distinguish FS surface EMG signals from FP surface EMG signals. The result showed that the WCE feather vector consisted of WCE(7) (187.25Hz, 218.75Hz) and WCE(8) (218.75Hz, 250Hz) can more effectively recog-nize FS and FP patterns than other WCE feature vector or the WPT feature vector which was gained by the combination of WPT and principal components analysis.展开更多

However, many examples, analyses and simulations indicate that chaotic oscillator detection system cannot guarantee the immunity to noises (even white noise). In fact the randomness of noises has a serious or even a destructive effect on the detection results in many cases. The measured turbulence signals often contain a large amount of noise. Due to wide frequency band, noise signals cannot be effectively removed by traditional methods based on Fourier transform. In this paper, a wavelet thresholding denoising method is proposed for turbulence signal processing in that wavelet analysis can be used for multi-resolution analysis and can extract local characteristics of the signals in both time and frequency domains. Turbulence signal denoising process is modeled based on the wavelet theory and characteristics of the turbulence signal. The threshold and decomposition level, as well as the procedure of the turbulence signal denoising, are determined using the wavelet thresholding method. The proposed wavelet thresholding method was validated by turbulence signal denoising of the Western Pacific Ocean trial data. Due to the subjectivity and fuzziness of pulse diagnosis, quantitative methods are needed. To extract the parameters of pulse signals, the prerequisite is to detect the corners of pulse signals correctly. Up to now,the pulse parameters are mostly acquired by marking the pulse corners manually, which is an obstacle to modernize pulse diagnosis. Therefore,a new automatic parameters extraction approach for pulse signals using wavelet transform is presented. Quantitatively, an aggregated signal can be defined as the scalar signal: it accumulates in its own variations only those spectral components that are presented simultaneously in each scalar time series of the multidimensional signal to be analyzed. Moreover, an algorithm of aggregation is proposed to suppress the spectral components that are present in any of the scalar components but absent in others (these components can be called local disturbance signals, for instance of technogenic nature). The main purpose of constructing the aggregated signal is to make clearer the common tendency of low-frequency data-flow in geophysical networks, which indicates an increase in collective behavior. It is known that almost all models of the process of earthquake preparation have pointed out an increase in collective behavior of components of geophysical fields in the region of preparation when the coming geocatastrophe has entered its long- and mid-term stages.展开更多

This is realized by the Discrete Cosine Harmonic Wavelet transform (DCHTWT) which exploits the good properties of DCT viz., energy compaction (low leakage), frequency resolution and computational simplicity due its real nature, compared to those of DFT and its harmonic wavelet version. Hence the proposed wavelet packet is advantageous both in terms of performance and computational efficiency compared to those of existing DFT harmonic wavelet packet. Further, the new DCAHWP also enjoys the desirable properties of a Harmonic wavelet transform over the time domain WT, viz., built in decimation without any explicit antialiasing filtering and easy interpolation by mere concatenation of different scales in frequency (DCT) domain with out any image rejection filter and with out laborious delay compensation required. Further, the compression by the proposed DCAHWP is much better compared to that by adaptive WP based on Daubechies-2 wavelet (DBAWP). For a compression factor (CF) of 1/8, the ratio of the percentage error energy by proposed DCAHWP to that by DBAWP is about 1/8 and 1/5 for considered 1-D signal and speech signal, respectively. Its compression performance is better than that of DCHWT, both for 1-D and 2-D signals. The improvement is more significant for signals with abrupt changes or images with rapid variations (textures). For compression factor of 1/8, the ratio of the percentage error energy by DCAHWP to that by DCHWT, is about 1/3 and 1/2, for the considered 1-D signal and speech signal, respectively. This factor for an image considered is 2/3 and in particular for a textural image it is 1/5.展开更多

When the frame order t of a video signal is replaced by order 2, the video signal can be looked as a block in 3-D space. After splitting the block into smaller sub-blocks, imitate the method of 2-D wavelet transformation for images, we can transform the sub-blocks with 3-D wavelet. Most of video signal energy is in the decomposed low-frequency sub-bands. These sub-bands affect the visual quality of the video signal most. Quantizing different sub-bands with different precision and then entropy encoding each sub-band, we can eliminate inter- and intra-frame redundancy of the video signal and compress data. Our simulation experiments show that this algorithm can achieve very good result.展开更多

Reducing zero drift and random drift is a key problem to the output of a gyro signal. A three-layer de-nosing threshold algorithm is proposed based on the wavelet decomposition to dispose the signal which is collected from a running fiber optic gyro (FOG).
