Casing wear and casing corrosion are serious problems affecting casing integrity failure in deep and ultra-deep wells. This paper aims to predict the casing burst strength with considerations of both wear and corrosion.Firstly, the crescent wear shape is simplified into three categories according to common mathematical models. Then, based on the mechano-electrochemical(M-E)interaction,the prediction model of corrosion depth is built with worn depth as the initial condition, and the prediction models of burst strength of the worn casing and corroded casing are obtained.Secondly, the accuracy of different prediction models is validated by numerical simulation, and the main influence factors on casing strength are obtained. At last, the theoretical models are applied to an ultra-deep well in Northwest China, and the dangerous well sections caused by wear and corrosion are predicted, and the corrosion rate threshold to ensure the safety of casing is obtained. The results show that the existence of wear defects results in a stress concentration and enhanced M-E interaction on corrosion depth growth. The accuracy of different mathematical models is different:the slot ring model is most accurate for predicting corrosion depth, and the eccentric model is most accurate for predicting the burst strength of corroded casing. The burst strength of the casing will be overestimated by more than one-third if the M-E interaction is neglected,so the coupling effect of wear and corrosion should be sufficiently considered in casing integrity evaluation. 展开更多

The poor corrosion and wear resistances of Mg alloys seriously limit their potential applications in various industries. The conventional epoxy coating easily forms many intrinsic defects during the solidification process, which cannot provide sufficient protection. In the current study,we design a double-layer epoxy composite coating on Mg alloy with enhanced anti-corrosion/wear properties, via the spin-assisted assembly technique. The outer layer is functionalized graphene(FG)in waterborne epoxy resin(WEP)and the inner layer is Ce-based conversion(Ce)film. The FG sheets can be homogeneously dispersed within the epoxy matrix to fill the intrinsic defects and improve the barrier capability. The Ce film connects the outer layer with the substrate, showing the transition effect. The corrosion rate of Ce/WEP/FG composite coating is 2131 times lower than that of bare Mg alloy, and the wear rate is decreased by~90%.The improved corrosion resistance is attributed to the labyrinth effect(hindering the penetration of corrosive medium)and the obstruction of galvanic coupling behavior. The synergistic effect derived from the FG sheet and blocking layer exhibits great potential in realizing the improvement of multi-functional integration, which will open up a new avenue for the development of novel composite protection coatings of Mg alloys. 展开更多

The double-layer NiCr-Cr_(3)C_(2)/Ni-Zn-Al_(2)O_(3) coatings with sufficient corrosion and wear resistance were prepared on low carbon steel substrates. The intermediate layers Ni-Zn-Al_(2)O_(3) were fabricated by using low-pressure cold spray (LPCS) method to improve the salt fog corrosion resistance properties of the supersonic plasma spray (SPS) NiCr-Cr_(3)C_(2) coatings. The friction and wear performance for the double-layer and single-layer NiCr-Cr_(3)C_(2) coatings were carried out by line-contact reciprocating sliding, respectively.Combined with the coating surface analysis techniques, the effect of the salt fog corrosion on the tribological properties of the double-layer coatings was studied. The results showed that the double-layer coatings exhibited better wear resistance than that of the single-layer coatings, due to the better corrosion resistance of the intermediate layer;the wear mass losses of the double-layer coatings was reduced by 70%than that of the single layer coatings and the wear mechanism of coatings after salt fog corrosion conditions is mainly corrosion wear. 展开更多

Aluminum alloys are the potential materials in the automobile and aerospace sectors due to their lower density, easy forming and excellent corrosion resistance. The demand of high strength-to-weight ratio materials in structural applications needs the engineering industries to seek aluminum alloy with new versions of hard and brittle ceramic particles. The microstructure, hardness, wear and corrosion behaviors of AA7075 composites with 2.5wt.%and 5wt.%TiC particles were studied.Microscopic analysis is evident that the transformation of the strong dendritic morphology to non-dendritic morphology on the incorporation of TiC into AA7075.Furthermore,the precipitation of the second-phase compounds such as Al_(2)CuMg,Al_(2)Cu andFe-rich Al_6(Cu,Fe)/Al_(7)Cu_(2)Fe)is promoted by TiC particles at inter-and intra-dendritic regions.Accordingly, the hardness of composites is improved by grain boundary strengthening and particulate strengthening mechanisms. Both coefficient of friction and wear rate have an inverse relation with TiC concentration. The base alloy without TiC shows adhesive-type wear-induced deformation due to the formation of an oxide film, while composite samples exhibit a mechanically mixed layer and abrasive-type wear behavior.Composite samples shows a higher corrosion rate due to the presence of numerous precipitates which promote pitting corrosion. 展开更多

The in situ(TiC+TiB)/TA15 composites with different volume percentages of reinforcement(10%,15%,20%and 25%)were prepared by water-cooled copper crucible vacuum suspension melting technology. The structures and compositions of the TA15 alloy and its composites were analyzed by XRD and EDS,and their electrochemical corrosion behaviors in the 3.5%NaCl solution were studied.Corrosion wear testing was conducted using a reciprocating ball-on-disc wear tester under a 10 N load. Results show that the in situ fibrous TiB phase and the granular TiC phase are uniformly distributed on the composite matrix. The microhardness can reach up to 531 HV as 25vol.%TiC+TiB reinforcement is added.Compared with the TA15 alloy, the volume wear rate decreases from(2.21±0.07)×10^(-4)to(1.75±0.07)×10^(-4)mm^(3)·N^(-1)·m^(-1)by adding 15vol.%TiC+TiB reinforcement, and the wear mechanism is adhesive wear. When the volume percentage of the reinforcement phase reaches 25%,the volume wear rate increases from(1.75±0.07)×10^(-4)to(2.41±0.07)×10^(-4)mm^(3)·N^(-1)·m^(-1),and the wear mechanism changes into abrasive wear. The volume loss resulted by the interaction between corrosion and wear accounts for more than 27%of the total wear volume. The volume loss due to wear-induced corrosion changes from 1.94%to 4.06%with different additions of reinforcement. The volume loss caused by corrosion-induced wear initially increases from 24.08%to 26.90%as the reinforcement increases from 0 to 15%due to the increase of corrosion potential, and then decreases from 26.90%to 25.68%as the reinforcement increases from 15%to 25%due to the peeling of TiC phase. 展开更多

TiN-matrix composite coating was prepared on 45# steel by reactive high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying. Its microstructure, phase composition, micro-hardness, corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaC1 solution and wear resistance were analyzed. The results suggest that the TiN-matrix composite coating is well bonded with the substrate. The micro-hardness measured decreases with the increase of applied test loads. And the micro-hardness of the coating under heavy loads is relatively high. The TiN-matrix composite coating exhibits an excellent corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaC1 solution. The corrosion potential of coating is positive and the passivation zone is broad, which indicates that the TiN-matrix composite coating is stable in the electrolyte and provides excellent protection to the substrate. The wear coefficient of the coating under all loads maintains at 0.49-0.50. The wear mechanism of the coating is revealed to be three-body abrasive wear. Yet the failure forms of TiN-matrix composite coating under different loads have an obvious difference. The failure form of coating under light loads is particle spallation due to the stress concentration while that of coating under heavy loads is crackin~ between inter-lamellae. 展开更多

Plasma electrolytic oxidation of a cast A356 aluminum alloy was carried out in aluminate electrolytes to develop wear and corrosion resistant coatings. Different concentrations of 2, 16 and 24 g/L NaAlO2 solutions and a silicate electrolyte (for comparison) were employed for the investigation. Wear performance and corrosion resistance of the coatings were evaluated by WC (tungsten carbide) ball-on-flat dry sliding tests and electrochemical methods, respectively. The results show that the coating formed for a short duration of 480 s in 24 g/L NaAlO2 solution generated the best protection. The coating sustained 30 N load for sliding time of 1800 s, showing very low wear rate of -4.5×10^-7 mm3/(N· m). A low corrosion current density of -8.81×10^-9 A/cm2 was also recorded. Despite low α-Al2O3 content of the coating, the compact and nearly single layer nature of the coating guaranteed the excellent performances. 展开更多

The wear behavior of an as-received Mg-Zn-Y-Zr alloy before and after a facile heat treatment was investigated under sliding in air and 0.5 wt.%NaCl solution. Results revealed that the wear resistance of the alloy was remarkably enhanced after the heat treatment, irrespective of testing condition. The wear mechanism was predominantly abrasive wear accompanied by oxidation under the dry sliding condition, while corrosive wear was dominant under sliding in the NaCl solution. The superior corrosive wear resistance was attributed to the homogenous distribution of fine I-phase precipitates in the alloy by the heat treatment, leading to a reduction in wear, corrosion as well as wear-corrosion synergy. The wear-accelerated corrosion rate was remarkably alleviated after the heat treatment. 展开更多

Pure Ni and its composites with different percentages of Ni-Cr nano-oxides were coated over carbon steel to assess the coating features and mechanical and corrosion behavior.A nano-oxide composite of Ni-Cr was first synthesized through chemical coprecipitation with uniform distribution constituents.Electrodeposition was employed to coat pure Ni and Ni-(Ni-Cr)oxides(10,20,30,40,and 50 g/L)on the steel sheets.Transmission electron microscope and field emission scanning electron microscope were adopted to examine the microstructure of powders and coatings, and X-ray diffraction analysis was employed to study the chemical composition. The microhardness, thickness, and wear resistance of the coatings were assessed, polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)tests were conducted to analyze the corrosion behavior, and the corresponding equivalent circuit was developed. Results showed flawless and crack-free coatings for all samples and uniform distribution of nano-oxides in the Ni matrix for the samples of 10-30 g/L.Agglomerated oxides were detected at high concentrations.Maximum microhardness(HV 661),thickness(116μm),and wear resistance of coatings were found at 30 g/L.A three-loop equivalent circuit corresponded satisfactorily to all EIS data. The corrosion resistance increased with the nano-oxide concentration of up to 30 g/L but decreased at 40 g/L.The sample of 50 g/L showed the best corrosion resistance. 展开更多

To investigate the correlation between structure characteristics and wear resistance of CO2 corrosion product scales at high temperature and high pressure, an autoclave was used to prepare CO2 corrosion product scales on N80 steel in carbon dioxide corrosion environment. The correlation between wear resistance of the scales and many other factors, such as temperature, pressure, morphology, structure, velocity of fluid medium, sand grain size, and so on, was comparatively analyzed by a self assembled wear device, and the scale morphologies before or after being worn were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). And then the surface grain size and thickness of scale were measured. The results showed that the cross-section of the corrosion scale was of a double-layer structure, the outer layer of which was composed of regular crystals, whereas the inner layer was a thin scale of fine grains. The outer grain size and thickness of scale varied with temperature, and the initial wear loss was consistent with the surface grain size; at the same time, the total wear loss corresponded to the thickness of scale. Compared to wear resist- ance in different depths of the scale, it was found that the structure of scale was a double-layer structure in cross-section, and the wear resistance of inner layer was better than that of the outer layer; the closer the scale to the matrix, the greater was the wear resistance of scale; and the larger the size or the higher the rotary speed of solid grain in multiphase flowing medium, the more was the wear loss of scale. 展开更多

The coatings were systematically characterized. Corrosion properties were evaluated by immersion test and anodic polarization measurement. The friction and wear properties of the CrN and CrSiN coatings were investigated by ball-on-disk tribometer in artificial seawater. The results show that the CrN coating has strong(111) and(200) preferred orientations and the intensity of the peaks decreases for the CrSiN coating. The hardness of the CrSiN coating is higher than that of the CrN coating. The CrSiN coating presents better corrosion resistance in seawater. The friction coefficient and wear rate of the CrSiN coating are lower than those of the CrN coating, indicating positive effect of Si addition on tribological performance in seawater. The results reveal a significant improvement in the corrosion resistance, that is, the corrosion current density decreases from 0.13 mA/cm2 for uncoated specimen to 1.74x10-6 mA/cm2 for the sample coated from the bath containing 15 g/L SiC and the corrosion potential increases from -1.6 V for uncoated specimen to -0.31 V for the sample coated from the bath. The wear resistance of both coated and uncoated samples was evaluated by pin-on-disc tribotester. The results show that the wear volume loss of coated sample is 8 times less than the bare alloy. 展开更多

In order to improve the wear and corrosion resistance of AZ31 magnesium alloy,a magnetron-sputtered Al layer with a thickness of 11μm was firstly applied on the alloy, and then treated by plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)in an aluminate and silicate electrolytes, respectively. The performance of PEO coatings was investigated by dry sliding wear and electrochemical corrosion tests. The aluminate coating exhibits excellent wear resistance under both 10 and 20 N loads. The silicate coating only shows low wear rate under 10 N,but it was destroyed under 20 N.Corrosion tests show that the Al layer after magnetron sputtering treatment alone cannot afford good protection to the Mg substrate. However, the duplex layer of PEO/Al can significantly improve the corrosion resistance of AZ31 alloy.Electrochemical tests show that the aluminate and silicate coatings have corrosion current densities of-1.6×10^(-6) and-1.1×10^(-6) A/cm^(2),respectively,which are two orders lower than that of the un-coated AZ31 alloy. However, immersion tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)show that the aluminate coating exhibits better long-term corrosion protection than silicate coating. 展开更多
