The prevalence of mental health problems in both Malaysian and global workplaces has significantly increased due to the presence of the coronavirus disease(COVID-19)pandemic,globalization,technology advancement in Industry 4.0,and other contributing factors. The pervasiveness of the issue poses a huge challenge to improving the occupational safety and health(OSH)of workers in various industries, especially in the digital industry. The emergence of the innovative industry is evident mainly due to the rapid development of Industry 4.0 and the rele-vant demands of multiple businesses in the digital transformation.Nonetheless, limited studies and academic dis-cussions were conducted on the OSH topic of digital employees.Hence, the current study serves tofill the existing gap and provide academic contributions by scrutinising the perceptions of digital workers regarding their work-place well-being,mental health literacy, and the impression of employing e-mental health. The objectives of this study are:1)To examine the mental health literacy and workplace wellness of digital workers,2)to explore the e-mental health usage intention and actual e-mental health utilization, and 3)to identify digital workers’feedback on e-mental health. In the current context,e-mental health focuses on three dimensions,namely,1)“health in our hand(HIOH)”,2)“interacting for health(IFH)”,and 3)“data enabling health(DEH)”.The present study employed an online cross-sectional survey and received 326 digital workers’completed responses.Variables, such as“mental health literacy(MHL)”,“workplace wellness(WW)”,and e-mental health intention and usage were explicated by analysing the data through descriptive statistics. The study results indicated a moderate to a high level of the MHL and the WW.More than half of the workers possessed a high intention level to employ e-mental health, with the HIOH dimension being the most prevalent domain.Nevertheless, the actual e-mental health usage was very low, owing to the online resources being a new concept amongst digital employees.Numerous confounding factors also existed in affecting the low usage, such as privacy concerns, data security levels, and health verification issues. In addition, the mental health issue has not been openly and widely discussed in Malay-sian workplaces due to stigmatisation. As such, the currentfindings could provide additional insights into the OSH literature;it could serve as a guideline for the OSH decision-makers,employers,and eHealth developers when establishing a feasible framework for the practical adoption of e-mental health services by digital workers. 展开更多

Background: This study was concerned with correlates of self-assessed health and wellness on ten dimensions including emotional, financial and physical health. All 10 self-ratings loaded on one factor with high internal reliability. Method: In all 506 adult participants, completed short measures of the bright side, Big Five traits (TIPI) and a short measure of the dark side, personality disorders (PID-5-BF). Results: Correlations and regressions suggested that wellness was related to sex, education and religious beliefs as well as four of five bright- and dark-side traits. Being Sanguine was most positively, and Choleric most negatively, associated with subjective wellness. Detachment and Negative Affect were the highest dark-side correlates. The final regression suggested that over a third of the variance in subjective wellness could be explained by four bright- and two dark-side factors. Conclusions: Personality factors, especially instability and negative affectivity, play a crucial role in all aspects of wellness. Implications and limitations are acknowledged. 展开更多

For wellness tourism destinations, the spatial distribution pattern is influenced by economy, natural environment,as well as other social factors. This study used questionnaire survey to investigate and count the factors influencing the spatial distribution of wellness tourism destination, and tried to analyze the effect of social and natural factors on the benefits of health care center and personnel rehabilitation through Excel. The result showed that the rehabilitation influences of wellness tourism destinations with different spatial distribution advantages on psychiatric patients are significantly different;if there is more investment in material resources, the rehabilitation of patients is comparatively better. The natural environment and humanistic environment have the best effect on the convalescence of psychiatric patients. Therefore, the humanistic factors and natural environment should be given priority during the construction of rehabilitation center, improving the rehabilitation efficiency of patients and reducing the investment cost of rehabilitation center. 展开更多

Human wellness is the ultimate goal of our efforts in improving the human life.Special foods are undoubtedly important in achieving human wellness. However, overeating significantly leads to obesity and diabetes. These chronic diseases will in turn affect the human wellness. Therefore,“dietary restriction and proper exercise”were introduced in the human daily life.Different foods cause various effects on the human health. The diversification of diet is a priority for nutritionists to keep our body healthy. To avoid diabetes mellitus, special foods for ketogenic diet,low-carbon diet, and low-calorie intake are also gradually attracting attention. In addition, the hypothesis that“hunger sensation comes from gut flora”brings new light to the research on the biological motivation for humans to eat food. This hypothesis has been gradually demonstrated using the flexible fasting technology by providing special foods, such as plant polysaccharides and dietary fibers. The response to food-needing signals from the gut flora to these foods demonstrates the importance of the gut flora in improving human wellness. The gut flora is probably an essential factor for translating the food-eating signals and converting the nutrition to our body. Therefore,“gut flora priority principle”is developed to guarantee human wellness. The 16S rRNA sequencing and mass spectrometric techniques can be used to identify the gut flora, which may guide us to a new era of human wellness based on gut flora wellness. 展开更多

Objective:Since nursing is a performance-based profession, clinical learning environments play an important role in the acquisition of professional abilities and train nursing students to enter the nursing profession and become a registered nurse. The study aimed to investigate the relations among professional identity, wellness, and future hope in nurse interns. Methods:A cross-sectional,analytic,descriptive,correlational study design was used to test these relations in the study where 210 nurse interns’students were selected using a convenience sampling from Zagazig University hospitals and Suez Canal University hospitals in Egypt. The questionnaires consisted of 4 parts, namely demographic characteristics,Professional Identity Scale for Nursing Students(PISNS),Holistic Health and Wellness Survey, and Hope scale. Results:Less than half of the study sample had chosen nursing specialty by own will(43.8%),while slightly more than half of them had a"very good"graduation level, and had no nursing role model. The lowest mean professional identity score was for independence in career choice while the highest was for social modeling. The repor ted physical wellness mean-score was the least, while social wellness was the highest.Professional identity, wellness, and future hope scores differed significantly based on nurse interns’personal characteristics. There were statistically significant,positive,weak-to-moderate correlations among the scores of professional identity, wellness, and future hope;however, the"choice of nursing study by own will"was a statistically significant independent positive predictor of the scores of professional identity, wellness, and future hope. Conclusions:Nurse interns’professional identity, wellness, and future hope were positively inter-correlated.However,nurse interns’wellness was the lowest, and it should be fostered as it was the main predictor for future hope. The internship programs should be modulated to improve nurse interns’professional identity, par ticularly regarding independence, and should foster their well-being in the clinical environment. 展开更多

The authors of this study examined the relationship between life attitude and physical disease state and found that psychological well being mediated patients’ illness course. Coherence and life control were endorsed as the important components of psychological well being. A multi-dimensional measure of life purpose was administered to 97 older adults on the acute rehabilitation unit of a major medical center in the United States. The severity of their illness burden was computed blindly by a physician rater. Regression analysis was conducted to determine if life attitude was predictive of the symptom ratings and factor analysis was performed on the individual items of the life attitude instrument to highlight the psychological profile of the older adults in this study for whom health challenges were primary. There was a significant relationship between life attitude and disease severity, even though the fit of the model indicated the need for other explanatory factors to fully account for sickness. Factor analysis demonstrated that items defined as measuring coherence and life control explained the largest proportion of total variance. Coherence incorporated the logical integration and consistent understanding of one’s self and the world at large. Life control referred to volition in decision making, exercising of personal responsibility, and the unfolding of life events. The findings suggested that in older adults undergoing medical hospitalization, psychological resilience had a retrospective orientation rather than prospective. The significant influence of life attitude on patients’ physical condition was consistent with clinical observations that the patients who resiliently endure health challenges seem to possess a hardy psychological reserve. 展开更多

Revisiting the Health and Wellness Benefits of Lifetime Sports to Aging Individuals 25 Years Later is an adaptation of Revisiting the Health and Wellness Benefits of Exercise, Physical Activity and Lifetime Sports Participation to Aging Individuals 25 Years Later that was presented orally at the International Health Conference at King's College, London, England in June 2016. The study was initiated in 1991 in Prince George's County, Maryland based upon the conceptual framework of published research determining that high intensity strength training in nonagenarians, persons in the 90-year old range, was beneficial to their overall health and well-being. More older individuals are living longer throughout the world and many of these aging individuals are healthy enough to actually enjoy their longevity. One of the main reasons for the improvements in longevity and functional health is many more aging individuals are better educated about what constitutes good health and are more accepting of those behavioral factors that contribute to good health such as increasing physical activity and initiating or maintaining active involvement in lifetime sports pursuits. 展开更多

This quality improvement project assessed the effectiveness and acceptability of Fountain of Health HBC tools as a minimal intervention for primary and secondary prevention among Canadian clinicians and their patients. Methods: Clinicians received HBC education and tools (paper tools and app-based) to assist their patients in setting a S.M.A.R.T (Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Realistic, Time-limited) goal at baseline and assessed four weeks later. Primary outcome measures were: 1) patient self-report of success at goal attainment;2) patient self-reported evaluation of change in well-being and health attitudes;and 3) clinician experience and engagement. Results: A total of 2184 clinicians received HBC education. Of these, 759 clinicians registered to participate in the project. 961 patients set S.M.A.R.T. HBC goals using either the paper tools (PT) or the app format. Patient data revealed nearly all patients (89% of PT users and 90% of app users) at least partially succeeded in attaining their goal at a four-week follow-up. Most patients (85% of PT and 80% of app users) also reported improvement in their well-being. A significant difference in health beliefs and attitudes was found in both PT (p < 0.001) and app users (p = 0.003). Conclusions: HBC is challenging. Educating and providing clinicians with HBC tools as a minimal intervention was found to be a successful health prevention strategy to improve patient well-being and health attitudes, and achieve S.M.A.R.T. goals. Results show HBC tools, education, and support for clinicians are both acceptable and effective for HBC in frontline care. These findings are relevant and timely given greater reliance on virtual care in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Further research with rigorous methodology is needed to implement programs to achieve sustainable HBC to promote health on a large scale. 展开更多
