Poland has a unique history of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)dating back to the 17th century when Polish missionary Michael(Michal)Boym was a pioneer in the field.In the 20th century,his successor,Professor Zbignie...Poland has a unique history of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)dating back to the 17th century when Polish missionary Michael(Michal)Boym was a pioneer in the field.In the 20th century,his successor,Professor Zbigniew Garnuszewski,reintroduced acupuncture to medical practice in Poland.However,other methods of TCM and its holistic approach to patient care have not found their place in modern medicine in Poland.At present,the legal status of TCM in Poland remains unregulated,with TCM included in the broad spectrum of complementary and alternative medicine(CAM)practices.Few reports are available on the use of TCM methods among the Polish population.Integrative medicine combines conventional medicine with evidence-based CAM interventions and considers all aspects of a patient's health,including physical,emotional,mental,social,and environmental factors.An integrative healthcare model that incorporates TCM modalities and lifestyle recommendations as well as a whole person approach may provide a more sustainable solution for the constantly underfinanced Polish healthcare system,which faces challenges of multimorbidity in an aging society and limited access to care.The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic,war in Ukraine,and ongoing climate crisis have underscored the need to strengthen the resilience of the Polish healthcare system and search for new solutions.A model of care that blends the best of biomedicine and TCM healing approaches may be a better option for both patients and the healthcare system in Poland.展开更多
Purpose:Upper limb disorders are one of the most common and important types of occupational injuries.Besides,identifying the factors influencing return to work following these injuries is essential to reduce the dimen...Purpose:Upper limb disorders are one of the most common and important types of occupational injuries.Besides,identifying the factors influencing return to work following these injuries is essential to reduce the dimensions of the problem.In this study,we investigated the return to work and associated factors following occupational injuries leading to upper limb impairment.Methods:In this retrospective cohort study,the rate of return to work and associated factors were assessed in 256 workers with work-related upper limb injury referred to a teaching hospital from March 2011 to December 2018.The inclusion criterion was a history of occupational injury resulting in upper limb impairment,and exclusion criteria included the presence of simultaneous impairment in other organs,congenital or non-occupational limb defects as well as patients with incomplete information in their medical records.Individuals’’ records,including age at the time of injury,gender,date of injury,marital status,education,level of amputation and injury,whole person impairment (WPI) and physiotherapy (prescribed by the physician) were reviewed.The WPI was calculated to assess the extent of the injury.All analyzes were performed by SPSS version 25.0.Result:The rate of return to work was 54.3%,in which 51.8% for the same job and 48.2% for a new job.The main factors associated with non-return to work were more days off work (p = 0.001),higher injury severity (p = 0.001),and dominant hand injury (p = 0.034).Conclusion:The number of days off work,the WPI,and dominant hand injury are the most important determinant in returning to work.In addition,increased job satisfaction and support from co-workers and employers are work-related factors that can lead to an increased return to work.展开更多
Purpose:The essay attempts to explore a possibility to conceive the idea of education for the whole person as a way of recovering the old spirit of liberal education or Bildung,yet in a new language.Design/Approach/Me...Purpose:The essay attempts to explore a possibility to conceive the idea of education for the whole person as a way of recovering the old spirit of liberal education or Bildung,yet in a new language.Design/Approach/Methods:The essay largely consists of two parts.The first part touches upon and diagnoses the current problems with educational culture in modern Korea where youths suffer their divided soul,by employing Rousseau’s notions of two different kinds of selflove,amour-de-soi and amour-propre.The second part addresses how the pursuit of the whole person as being wholehearted can be a healthy form of self-love mediated by love of the world or other persons.Findings:The idea of education for the whole person may turn out to be an unfeasible ideal,in the modern condition.Yet,being a whole person as wholehearted can be taken as a regulative ideal that guides our practice in teaching and learning,stimulating us to make an effort to be so despite our knowledge that it is out of reach.Originality/Value:The essay shows how the idea of education for the whole person can be newly interpreted in modern East Asian context,which can resonate with current problems with education culture in the West as well as around the globe for the age of measurement.展开更多
