Acceleration histories of each measurement location under normal traffic are recorded for 30 minutes at field. These recor- ded histories are divided into individual vibrations and are combined into two groups aceording to the level of vibration;one by heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses and the other by light vehicles such as passenger cars.Separate processing of the two groups of signals shows that, for the middle and long-span bridges, the difference can be hardly detected, but, for the short span bridges whose mass is relatively small, the measured natural frequencies can change up to 5.4%.展开更多

Special attention is given to overcoming space limitations for installing the control device in the tower and the effect of varying natural frequency of the towers during construction. First, the finite element model of the bridge during its construction and the basic equation of motion of the MSPMD are introduced. The equation of motion of the bridge with the MSPMD under along-wind excitation is then established. Finally, a numerical simulation and parametric study are conducted to assess the effectiveness of the control system for reducing the wind-induced vibration of the bridge towers during construction. The numerical simulation results show that the MSPMD is practical and effective for reducing the along-wind response of the single column tower, can be installed in a small area of the tower, and complies with the time-variant characteristics of the bridge during its entire construction stage.展开更多

The analysis of wind loads on large span roof structures (LSRS) requires large amounts of calculations. Due to the com- bined effects of horizontal and vertical winds, the wind-induced vibrations of LSRS are analyzed in this pa- per with the frequency domain method as the first application of method for the analysis of the wind re- sponse of LSRS. A program is developed to analyze the wind-induced vibrations due to a combination of wind vibration modes. The program, which predicts the wind vibration coefficient and the wind pressure act- ing on the LSRS, interfaces with other finite element software to facilitate analysis of wind loads in the de- sign of LSRS. The effectiveness and accuracy of the frequency domain method have been verified by nu- merical analyses of practical projects.展开更多

Nonstationary wind speed can be decomposed into a deterministic time-varying mean wind speed and a zero-mean stationary fluctuating wind speed component. By using wavelet transform (WT), the time-varying mean wind speed is extracted and a nonstationary wind speed model is proposed in this paper. The wind characteristics of turbulence intensity, integral scale and probability distribution of the bridge are calculated from the typical wind samples recorded by the two anemometers installed on the DLB using the proposed nonstationary wind speed model based on WT. The calculated results are compared with those calculated by the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and traditional approaches. The compared results indicate that the wavelet-based nonstationary wind speed model is more reasonable and appropriate than the EMD-based nonstationary and traditional stationary models for characterizing wind speed in analysis of wind-rain-induced vibration of cables.展开更多

Wind loads and responses are the key factors for their structural design. This paper introduces some important achievements of wind-resistant studies of the author's research team on long-span bridges. First, new concepts and identification methods of aerodynamic derivatives and aerodynamic admittances were proposed. Then mechanical and aerodynamic control strategies and methods of wind-induced vibrations of long-span bridges were the great concerned problems, and valuable achievements were presented. Especially, great efforts which have been theoretically and experimentally made on rain-wind induced vibration of cables of cable-stayed bridges were described.
