This thesis is about the E-C translation of The Innocent.This novel is the prequel by M.R.Hall,a famous British playwright,for his another novel Tlze Clzosen Dead.Through this thesis,the author here aims to use some t...This thesis is about the E-C translation of The Innocent.This novel is the prequel by M.R.Hall,a famous British playwright,for his another novel Tlze Clzosen Dead.Through this thesis,the author here aims to use some typical examples to illustrate the application of such translation methods and strategies as choice of word,meaning extension and transformation of part of speech to solve the difficulties and problems she encountered during the translation of this detective novel.In order to achieve the similar reading effect between the target and the original readers,the author,under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,also adopts other translation strategies and techniques to solve the problems in translation,striving for maintaining the writing style of the source text,expecting to provide some reference for other texts alike.展开更多
Sentence alignment is a basic task in natural lan-guage processing which aims to extract high-quality paral-lel sentences automatically.Motivated by the observation that aligned sentence pairs contain a larger number ...Sentence alignment is a basic task in natural lan-guage processing which aims to extract high-quality paral-lel sentences automatically.Motivated by the observation that aligned sentence pairs contain a larger number of aligned words than unaligned ones,we treat word translation as one of the most useful external knowledge.In this paper,we show how to explicitly integrate word translation into neural sentence alignment.Specifically,this paper proposes three cross-lingual encoders to incorporate word translation:1)Mixed Encoder that learns words and their translation annotation vectors over sequences where words and their translations are mixed alterma-tively;2)Factored Encoder that views word translations as fea-tures and encodes words and their translations by concatenating their embeddings;and 3)Gated Encoder that uses gate mechanism to selectively control the amount of word translations moving forward.Experimentation on NIST MT and Opensub-titles Chinese-English datasets on both non-monotonicity and monotonicity scenarios demonstrates that all the proposed encoders significantly improve sentence alignment performance.展开更多

This article is devoted to the study of one of the most important questions of philology—translation which throughout its centuries-long and rich history has been considered a sphere of philological activity of utmos...This article is devoted to the study of one of the most important questions of philology—translation which throughout its centuries-long and rich history has been considered a sphere of philological activity of utmost significance providing an exceptional possibility for recoding and bringing philological and cultural traditions within the reach of people at large.Through the application of a variety of methods(linguo-stylistic,linguo-poetic,and comparative),the author attempts to study the process of translation,the clash of difficulties inevitably arising in that process,and offers solutions that will help recreate the vitality of the original and the uniqueness of linguistic thinking.Emphasis on the importance of the consideration of intra-and inter-linguistic correlations of language units in the original work of literature drives the author to the conclusion that the most reliable approach to literary translation is to be guided by the principle of“metaphoric displacement”.展开更多
