Interlingual Interference in the English Language Word Order Structure of Chinese EFL Learners

This paper will focus on some common word order errors that Chinese students make.The author will present a body of contrastive material to illustrate what specific word order errors are in collected writing samples of Chinese students.Then the er⁃rors will be broken down into certain error types and be analyzed in depth.At the end of this paper,each error type occurrence rate will be calculated and the statistics will be represented in a pie chart.The paper finds out interlingual interference leads to these common errors by Chinese English language learners.

The Word Order and Prosody of Attributi

The syntactic category is where the phonetic rhythmic elements of speech come into play.In this paper,we analyze and describe the situation of the attributives with or without de(的),multiplicity,and expression,and consider that the change of order is related to the phonological factors.Chinese grammar is extremely flexible,and the rhythmic effect on the pragmatic plane is an important pursuit.

Sexism in the English Language

Sexism is a phenomenon that exists to a varying extent in different societies and nations. As a mirror of society and a communicating tool, language reflects the social views and values. Thus, the phenomenon of sexism will naturally, be reflected in the use of language. This thesis will probe sexism in English in terms of word formation, word order and word meaning. Then the thesis analyzes the reasons for the existence of sexism in the English language and proposes some measures to eliminate the linguistic sexism. However, only by removing the sexist conception and improving women's social status can linguistic sexism get eliminated. Gender equality is most essential precondition to realize linguistic equality.

Research on calculation method of text similarity based on smooth inverse frequency

In order to improve the accuracy of text similarity calculation,this paper presents a text similarity function part of speech and word order-smooth inverse frequency(PO-SIF)based on sentence vector,which optimizes the classical SIF calculation method in two aspects:part of speech and word order.The classical SIF algorithm is to calculate sentence similarity by getting a sentence vector through weighting and reducing noise.However,the different methods of weighting or reducing noise would affect the efficiency and the accuracy of similarity calculation.In our proposed PO-SIF,the weight parameters of the SIF sentence vector are first updated by the part of speech subtraction factor,to determine the most crucial words.Furthermore,PO-SIF calculates the sentence vector similarity taking into the account of word order,which overcomes the drawback of similarity analysis that is mostly based on the word frequency.The experimental results validate the performance of our proposed PO-SIF on improving the accuracy of text similarity calculation.

The Temporality of Chinese from the Perspective of Semantic Relations

The concept of time is encoded in language in different ways,which is reflected in temporal expressions,tenses,aspects and word order in languages.Some scholars claim that Chinese is a language characterized by temporality.This paper aims to explore what the temporality of Chinese refers to in both its narrow and broad senses,and the classification of temporality under the guidance of the iconicity of sequence as well as the word order principles.Moreover,some scholars hold a seemingly opposite view that Chinese is a language of spatiality—whether the two views are contradictory to each other is also discussed in the current study.The research mainly adopts the methods of literature analysis and retrospection.It is found that the temporality of Chinese mainly refers to the correspondence between the sequence of linguistic units and the temporal order of events or states represented in the conceptual world,and that temporality can be classified into natural temporality,cognitive temporality,and functional temporality.Then,this paper concludes that the viewpoint that Chinese is a language of temporality does not conflict with the opinion that Chinese is characterized by spatiality,as these two traits are concerned with two irrelevant aspects of language.However,it will posit that whether the property of temporality is consistent at every linguistic level in Chinese,even including characters,needs further exploration.
