Effect of ceramic work rolls on surface roughness of rolled SUS304 ultra-thin strips

Surface morphology and roughness are important parameters of surface quality of cold-rolled ultra-thin strip steel.In order to study the effect of Si_(3)N_(4) ceramic work rolls on the surface roughness of SUS304 ultra-thin strip,ABAQUS finite element model calculation,3D laser profilometry,and other methods were adopted based on the physical characteristics of Si_(3)N_(4) ceramic roll and 9Cr2MoV steel roll,like anti-flattening performance and oil wettability.The surface morphology and roughness of SUS304 ultra-thin strip rolled by different material work rolls under oil lubrication conditions were measured.The results showed that under the rolling force of 10 kN,the maximum flattening amount of Si_(3)N_(4) ceramic roll was reduced by 35.14%compared to that of 9Cr2MoV steel roll.The reduction rate of SUS304 ultra-thin strip rolled by ceramic roll was 34.19%,while that rolled by steel roll was only 22%;Si_(3)N_(4) ceramic roll can further increase the number of alternating convex peaks and concave valleys in the rolled thin strip,reduce the profile steepness,reduce surface roughness,and enhance the planarization effect of surface micro-convex bodies,with improving surface quality and surface glossiness.Finally,the mechanism of Si_(3)N_(4) ceramic roll significantly improving the surface roughness of rolled SUS304 ultra-thin strip was proposed. 展开更多

A new roll shifting strategy with varying stroke and varying step was investigated,Two characteristic parameters including cat ear height and gap contour smoothness were introduced to assess the effect of shifting strategy on roll wear,and the relation between characteristic parameters and shifting strategy was established.Both varying stroke and varying step can reduce cat ear height and gap contour smoothness,so the shifting strategy with varying stroke and varying step is better than the one with either varying stroke or varying step,Based on the effect of shifting control parameters on characteristic parameters of roll wear,the selection principle of these shifting control parameters was gained.A case study was conducted to validate the proposed roll shifting strategy,reducing uncontrollable quartic loading gap contour,improving strip profile and extending rolling length of a rolling campaign. 展开更多

Though high accuracy of the thermal contour was obtained while adopting finite element method,it could not meet the real-time requirement.One-dimensional finite difference method could realize real-time control in the case of neglecting both the circumferential and radical heat exchange,but the over-simplified modes resulted in poor accuracy.And two-dimensional full explicit difference was also limited in practical application since its time step was restricted to keep the model stable.Consequently,a new method of alternating direction finite difference was introduced and discussed in the model's stability,calculating speed and precision.Specific work roll after one real rolling unit was researched,The result shows that error of temperature on work roll surface between measured and calculated values is within 5 ℃.The influence of rolling rhythm and strip width on thermal crown was also studied.The conclusion is verified theoretically and practically that it can maintain absolutely stable and meet the online requirement. 展开更多

The thermal-structural coupled element and contact element were introduced. In the simulation of work roll temperature field, the convert boundary condition and the transient thermal contact between the roll and strip were studied. Besides, the dynamic variation of the work roll temperature and the transient temperature distribution of the work roll during hot rolling were investigated. In order to analyze the thermal field and thermal contour of work roll in finishing trains of hot rolling in rolling process, a quasi two-dimension implicit finite difference model is developed. To improve the calculating speed and precision, some special solutions are introduced, including the development of this model, the simplification of boundary conditions and the computation of heat transfer coefficients. The results show that these solutions of thermal behaviors of work roll are very much efficient and the model can be used as an on-line profile and fatness control model of large industrial mills. 展开更多

According to the concept of virtual bending force,a rational explanation for SHOHET's model was presented. Considering the deformation characters of the work rolls in four-high mill,the deformation model of the work roll was regarded as a cantilever beam and new influence coefficients were deduced.The effect of the bending force was taken into account independently. Therefore,the contribution to work roll deflection caused by rolling load,rolling pressure between rolls and bending force can be got from the new formulas.To validate the accuracy of the formulas,the results obtained from the new formulas were compared with those from SHOHET's formulas.It is found that they highly coincide,which illustrates that the formulas are reliable. 展开更多

But the problem could be resolved by SAA.It was pretty high precision to predict the values for the wear profiles of work roll in a rollingunit. An optimization solution to roll shifting strategy for alternately rolling campaign is presented. All the strips in a rolling campaign are divided into narrow strips and wide ones, and shifting position of narrow strips is obtained by the recursive method, and then shifting position of wide strips is optimized by NSGA-II which is a multiobjective genetic algorithm. For wide strips, a multi-objective optimization model of roll shifting strategy is pro posed, which takes 3 wear contour factors including edge smoothness, body smoothness and edge drop as optimization objectives. The Pareto optimal front of roll shifting strategy can be gained quickly by NSGA-II, which suggests a series of alternative solutions to roll shifting strategy. Analysis shows that the conflict exists among the 3 objectives. The final optimal solution is selected from the Pareto optimal solutions by the weighted-sum decision-making method. Industrial production proves the validity of the solution, and it can improve strip profile of alternately rolling, reduce strip edge wave, and extend the rolling miles of rolling campaigns. 展开更多

A program on the solidification process of horizontal centrifugal casting coupled with eutectic carbides segregation has been developed in this paper. Due to the geometrical features of work roll, a cylindrical coordinate system was used. The temperature field of the outer layer at the end of filling process was imported as the initial temperature condition for the solidification process. The model of eutectic carbides segregation caused by different densities between eutectic MC and the molten steel was coupled in the program. The temperature field of the outer layer of work roll during horizontal centrifugal casting process was investigated. Results show that the outer layer has a "sandwich shape" solid fraction manner. Results also indicate that the segregation of eutectic MC is quite severe during centrifugal casting process. It forms four zones of different content of carbides in radial direction. The simulated results of MC carbides segregation phenomenon agree with the experimental observations. 展开更多

High-chromium white cast iron is a common material for the manufacture of the work rolls used in the fin- ishing stands in hot strip mills. The high temperature oxidation behaviour of as-cast and heat-treated high-chromium white cast iron was studied by gravimetric means at 650 ℃ in atmospheres that included dry air and a mixture of dry air and water vapour. For both environmental and material conditions, the oxidation rate of the alloys was represen ted by parabolic trends and the oxidation phenomenon was more obvious when the samples were oxidised in water vapour. Water vapour also influenced the chemical composition of the oxides formed in the alloy and under this condi tion, the oxide scale formed on the alloy contained the oxides FeCr2O4 , (Fe,Cr)3O4 and (Fe,Cr)2 O3. In contrast, the alloys exposed to dry air conditions only experienced the formation of FeCr2O4 and (Fe,Cr)2O3. It was found that the presence of water vapour and the chromium content of the alloys increased the oxidation rate by a mechanism that involved chromium depletion of the oxide as a result of hydroxide formation. The differences observed in the oxi- dation behaviour of the alloy are discussed in terms of the composition of the oxidant atmosphere and the metallurgi cal condition of the specimens. 展开更多

Considering the effect of work roll shifting on roll temperature field,a finite difference method of PR format for roll temperature field was presented,which can meet the requirements of accuracy and speed of online calculation.The step-by-step accumulation method was used to simulate the roll temperature field and thermal crown,and the evolution of roll thermal crown in a rolling campaign was studied.And then,the effects of strip width,rolling rhythm and work roll shifting on roll thermal crown were analyzed.It is found that work roll shifting can disperse the thermal expansion of the roll body especially the edge to make roll thermal contour uniform.The effect of work roll shifting on roll thermal crown is mainly concentrated in regions around twice of roll shifting stroke,and the change range of roll thermal crown is±30μm or so in the same roll body location. 展开更多
