A Descriptive Translation Study of Chinese Translation of French Musical Roméo et Juliette

This paper presents a Descriptive Translation Study(DTS)analysis of the Chinese translation of the French musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet,titled Roméo et Juliette:de la Haineàl’Amour.Romeo and Juliet,a timeless play by Shakespeare,has captivated audiences since its premiere in 1597 and has been adapted into various forms,including stage productions,films,musicals,and operas.The focus of this study is to analyze the Chinese translation of the French musical adaptation from a DTS perspective.DTS is an approach that aims to understand the translation process and its reception in the target culture.By examining language choices,cultural references,and adaptation strategies,this study seeks to shed light on how the Chinese translation of the French musical functions within the target culture and influences the reception and interpretation of the source text.This analysis is expected to gain insights into the challenges and strategies employed in translating a musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet into Chinese.The findings of this study will contribute to the field of translation studies and provide a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in the translation of musical works.

Construction and Validation of a Chinese Translation of the Coping Self-Efficacy Scale,Adolescent Edition

Background:Coping self-efficacy can help individuals mitigate the adverse emotional impacts of stress,anxiety,and other negative emotions,and it also influences individuals’academic performance,including school adjustment and academic burnout.It is an important factor affecting the mental health of adolescents.However,there is no measurement tool specifically designed for adolescent populations in China.Therefore,the purpose of this study is to assess the applicability of the Coping Self-Efficacy Scale(CSES)among Chinese adolescents.Methods:In September 2023,this study collected data through online questionnaires and ultimately conducted item analysis,exploratory factor analysis,confirmatory factor analysis(CFA),measurement invariance analysis,reliability analysis,and criterion-related validity analysis on a sample of 1157 adolescents.Results:The results of item analysis showed that the items of CSES were significantly different between the high and low groups.Further factor analysis results showed the existence of a factor solution that explained 59.09%of the total variation,with factor loadings ranging from 0.52–0.78.CFA supported the three-factor model of Chinese adolescent version of the CSES(CFI=0.923,TLI=0.914,IFI=0.923,RMSEA=0.068).Measurement invariance analysis indicates that the scale satisfies gender measurement invariance(ΔCFI=-0.002,-0.001>-0.01,ΔRMSEA=-0.001,0<0.02,ΔSRMR=0.005,0.007<0.01).The Chinese adolescent version of the CSES was positively correlated with the Social Support Appraisal Scale(SS-A)and the Life Orientation Test-Revised(LOT-R,r=0.670,0.673,both p<0.01),and negatively correlated with the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale(CPSS),the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI)and the Adolescent Student Burnout Inventory(ASBI,r=-0.694,-0.233,-0.680,both p<0.01).The Cronbach’sα,McDonald’sω,split-half reliability and test-retest reliability of the Chinese adolescent version of the CSES were 0.953,0.955,0.933 and 0.894,respectively.Conclusion:The results indicate that the three-factor model of the Chinese adolescent version of the CSES is acceptable and demonstrates high reliability and validity,establishing it as a precise tool for measuring and assessing coping self-efficacy among Chinese adolescents.

Construction and Validity of Chinese Translation of the Universal Mental Health Literacy Scale for Adolescents

Background:In this study,the Universal Mental Health Literacy Scale for Adolescents(UMHL-A)was revised and tested for its reliability and validity in Chinese middle school students,thus establishing a useful tool for assessing the mental health of individuals in this occupation.Methods:Our sample comprised 1208 junior high school students(58.85%male),aged between 11 and 15 years old.The Chinese version of the scale includes a mental health attitude subscale and mental health knowledge subscale,including attitudes towards seeking help,attitudes related to stigma,general mental health knowledge,and knowledge about specific mental illnesses,encapsulated in a total of 17 items.A series of psychometric analyses such as exploratory factor analysis(EFA),confirmatory factor analysis(CFA),and internal consistency reliability estimation were carried out in this study.Results:The results of the CFA indicated that the two-factor model had an acceptable model fit(Attitude(UMHL-A Likert):χ^(2)/df=4.107;RMSEA=0.072;SRMR=0.045;TLI=0.932;CFI=0.954;Knowledge(UMHL-A T/F):χ^(2)/df=3.647;RMSEA=0.066;SRMR=0.044;TLI=0.923;CFI=0.945).The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of subscales of the Chinese version UMHL-A were 0.80 and 0.78,respectively.Conclusion:In general,the Chinese version of the Universal Mental Health Literacy Scale for adolescents has good reliability and validity and can be used as a tool to measure the mental health literacy of Chinese adolescents.

A Comparative Study of Chinese Translations of Tagore’s Stray Birds From the Perspective of the“Three Beauties Theory”

For more than 60 years,Mr.Xu Yuanchong has been devoted to education.He has not only made remarkable achievements in translating from and into Chinese,English,French and other languages,but has also developed his own unique concept of translation.Since 1950,he has always adhered to the“Three Beauties Theory”,believing that translation should not only rely on the original text,but also realize the“beauty of meaning”,“beauty of sound”,and“beauty of form”.Based on Xu Yuanchong’s“Three Beauties Theory”,this paper takes Zheng Zhenduo’s and Feng Tang’s Chinese translations of Stray Birds as an example to explore in depth the specifics of poetry translation theory.The study summarizes the similarities and differences between these two translations in embodying the“three beauties”,providing insights into the Chinese translation techniques of philosophical prose poems.This endeavor seeks to offer valuable insights for the comparative study of Stray Birds translations。

On Translation of Rhetorical Devices in Chinese Translation of The Bridges of Madison County

The most evident linguistic feature of The Bridges of Madison County is the extensive use of rhetorical devices to strength-en the aesthetics of language, so rhetorical translation exerts an influence, to a certain extent, on the linguistic beauty of its transla-tions. Here it cites examples from the original book and Zi Zhongyun’s Chinese translation, analyzing and summarizing translationmethods of rhetorical devices used by the translator in her translation. It is concluded that main methods of rhetorical translationare literal translation of rhetoric, rhetorical omission and rhetorical shift, making an attempt to add new content for relevant studiesof this Chinese translation.

An Analysis of the Position of Chinese Translation Study

Since the Polysystem theory was brought in, domestic researchers have carried out many studies on the availability and shortcomings of the theory. Some scholars use it as the framework to make descriptive studies. Based on the Polysystem theory, this paper describes and analyzes the position of Chinese translation study in the polysystem of Chinese culture and the world 's transla?tion study. Although the position of both translation and translation study has ever changed over a certain period of time, Chinese translation study has maintained a peripheral position for a long time. Identification of protein targets for the antidepressant effects of Kai-Xin-San in Chinese medicine using isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation

Kai-Xin-San consists of Ginseng Radix, Polygalae Radix, Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, and Poria at a ratio of 3:3:2:2. Kai-Xin-San has been widely used for the treatment of emotional disorders in China. However, no studies have identified the key proteins implicated in response to Kai-Xin-San treatment. In this study, rat models of chronic mild stress were established using different stress methods over 28 days. After 14 days of stress stimulation, rats received daily intragastric administrations of 600 mg/kg Kai-Xin-San. The sucrose preference test was used to determine depression-like behavior in rats, while isobaric tags were used for relative and absolute quantitation-based proteomics to identify altered proteins following Kai-Xin-San treatment. Kai-Xin-San treatment for 2 weeks noticeably improved depression-like behaviors in rats with chronic mild stress. We identified 33 differentially expressed proteins: 7 were upregulated and 26 were downregulated. Functional analysis showed that these differentially expressed proteins participate in synaptic plasticity, neurodevelopment, and neurogenesis. Our results indicate that Kai-Xin-San has an important role in regulating the key node proteins in the synaptic signaling network, and are helpful to better understand the mechanism of the antidepressive effects of Kai-Xin-San and to provide objective theoretical support for its clinical application. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee for Animal Research from the Chinese PLA General Hospital(approval No. X5-2016-07) on March 5, 2016.

Poetry Translation and Cultural Transmission——the English Version of the Classical Chinese Poem “Bring in the Wine”

This article,based on the English version of Li Bai's Classical Chinese Poem“Bring in the Wine”,explores the important position of cultural transmission in the English translation of the Classical Chinese Poem through the comparison of the cultural translation,and finally draws the rationality and feasibility of the creative translation techniques in the English translation of the Classical Chinese Poems.It points out that the alienation of the Chinese culture's external communication has ignored the reader's cultural acceptance ability and position of the western countries and regions dominated by the foreign countries.It is believed that in a long period of time,Chinese culture needs the translation of Chinese translators to dissimilation,the translation of foreign sinologists,domestication,and alienation,to meet the needs of different types of readers and to promote the Chinese culture to go out.

The effect of traditional Chinese medicine“Tian Gui Recipe (TGR)”on obesity and anovulation in androgen-sterilized rats(ASR)

Objectives: A traditional Chinese medicine “Tian Gui Recipe (TGR)” has been used to effectively treat clomiphene resistant anovulatory disease and obesity, especially in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) cases with hyperinsulinemia. The effect of TGR on obesity and anovulation was investigated in androgen-sterilized rats (ASR).Methods: Female SD rats at the age of 9 days were divided into 3 groups. Group ASR (n=15): anovulation was demonstrated at the age of 70 days by vaginal smear in rats while 1.25 mg of testosterone propionate was injected subcutaneously on its 9th neonatal day. Group A+H (n=25): TGR were administered to ASR at the age of 80 days for 3 weeks. Rats with regular estrous cycle and ovulation after herbal treatment were included in this group. Group C (n=15): normal ovulated rats were recruited. Around the age of 112 days or on proestrous day, all rats were sacrificed under anesthesia. Serum leptin, testosterone (T), estrogen (E2), follicular stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) levels were measured with radioimmunoassay (RIA). Double immunofluorescent staining combined with confocal laser scanning microscope and dual in situ hybridization were carried out on sections through areas of arcuate nucleus (ARC) to determine whether estrogen receptor (ER) immunoreactivity (IR) or long form of leptin receptor (OB-Rb) mRNA were expressed in neuropeptide Y (NPY) immuno- and mRNA-containing neurons, and their relationship to proopiomelanocortin (POMC) mRNA-containing neurons. Immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization were used to observe the levels of ER-, NPY-,gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH)-IR and gene expression levels of NPY, OB-Rb, and POMC in ARC. Meanwhile, the criteria of energy state,including daily food intake, retroperitoneal fat depot pad and body weight,were measured and evaluated. Values of immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization were expressed in mean optic density (MOD).Results:Seventeen out of the 25 rats (68%) in Group A+H were ovulated after herbal treatment. ASR characterized with significantly high metabolic rate, energy imbalance and obesity (P<0.01,P<0.01,P<0.01).The mean serum leptin, T, E2 levels of ASR were significantly higher than that of Group C and Group A+H (P<0.01,P<0.01), while being contraryto that of FSH, LH levels (P<0.01,P<0.01). ERs were proved distributing in NPY-containing neurons, OB-Rb coexpressed in NPY-synthesizing neurons, and both NPY- and POMC- mRNA expressing neurons overlapped in ARC. Compared to Group C, levels of NPY mRNA and NPY, POMC mRNA expressions increased (P<0.01,P<0.01,P<0.01),OB-Rb mRNA, ER and GnRH immunoreactive expression decreased significantly in the hypothalamus of ASR (P<0.01,P<0.01,P<0.01).These dramatic neuroendocrine changes became normal in ovulated ASR after the herbal treatment (all P>0.05).Conclusion: The elevated peripheral estrogen caused by high testosterone and leptin levels in ASR may down-regulate their corresponding receptors oriented on hypothalamic NPY-containing neurons respectively, therefore challenge the NPY mRNA and NPY,POMC mRNA overexpression. The overexpression of NPY, POMC gene transcription and translation stimulate food intake, promote the deposit of adipocyte tissue, and inhibit GnRH expression and GnRH/FSH, LH release, which contribute to the occurrence of obesity and anovulation in ASR. “TGR” may reverse these abnormal neuroendocrine cascades by lowering levels of testosterone, estrogen and leptin.

Association of G-protein coupled purinergic receptor P2Y2 with ischemic stroke in a Han Chinese population of North China

The G-protein-coupled purinergic receptor P2Y2(P2RY2) plays an important role in the mechanism of atherosclerosis, which is relevant to ischemic stroke. This retrospective case-control study aimed to assess the relationship between P2RY2 gene polymorphisms and ischemic stroke risk in the northern Han Chinese population. In this study, clinical data and peripheral blood specimens were collected from 378 ischemic stroke patients and 344 controls. The ischemic stroke participants were recruited from the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University and the First Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning Medical University. The controls were recruited from the Health Check Center at the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University. Ischemic stroke patients were divided into two subgroups according to the Trial of ORG 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment(TOAST) classification: large-artery atherosclerosis(n = 178) and small-artery occlusion(n = 200) strokes. All subjects were genotyped for three single nucleotide polymorphisms(rs4944831, rs1783596, and rs4944832) in the P2RY2 gene using peripheral venous blood samples. The distribution of the dominant rs4944832 phenotype(GG vs. GA+AA) differed significantly between small-artery occlusion patients and control subjects(odds ratio(OR) = 1.720, 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.203–2.458, P < 0.01). Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that the GG genotype of rs4944832 was significantly more prevalent in small-artery occlusion patients than in control subjects(OR = 1.807, 95% CI: 1.215–2.687, P < 0.01). The overall distribution of the haplotype established by rs4944831-rs1783596-rs4944832 was significantly different between ischemic stroke patients and controls(P < 0.01). In ischemic stroke patients, the frequency of the G-C-G haplotype was significantly higher than in control subjects(P = 0.028), whereas the frequency of the T-C-A haplotype was lower than in control subjects(P = 0.047). These results indicate that the G-C-G haplotype of P2RY2 is a susceptibility haplotype for ischemic stroke. In addition, the GG genotype of rs4944832 may be associated with the development of small-artery occlusion in the northern Han Chinese population. The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University on February 20, 2012(No. 2012-38-1) and the First Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning Medical University, China, on March 1, 2013(No. 2013-03-1). All participants gave their informed consent. This trial was registered with the ISRCTN Registry(ISRCTN11439124) on October 24, 2018. Protocol version(1.0).

The “New Unemployed” consists of young people with low education in the Chinese cities. They differ from the cohorts of their parents because they have no work experiences in any state- or collective-owned enterprise, and are subject to completely different policies designated by the government. Investigations of their daily living lead to the conclusion that the “New Unemployed” has gone through a “system withdrawal” process. They are now facing an environment of “system vacuum” that none of other unemployed groups has ever encountered before. The author emphasizes in the paper a strategic employment principle of “For Future Generations” so that focused attention and care can be provided and this toughest challenge in China can be dealt with.
