The core-shell structure silicon-resin precursor powders were synthesized through coat-mix process and addition of Al2O3-SiO2-Y2O3 composite additives.A series of porous silicon carbide ceramics were produced after molding,carbonization and sintering.The phase,morphology,porosity,thermal conductivity,thermal expansion coefficient,and thermal shock resistance were analyzed.The results show that porous silicon carbide ceramics can be produced at low temperature.The grain size of porous silicon carbide ceramic is small,and the thermal conductivity is enhanced significantly.Composite additives also improve the thermal shock resistance of porous ceramics.The bending strength loss rate after 30 times of thermal shock test of the porous ceramics which were added Al2O3-SiO2-Y2O3 and sintered at 1 650 ℃ is only 6.5%.Moreover,the pore inside of the sample is smooth,and the pore size distribution is uniform.Composite additives make little effect on the thermal expansion coefficient of the porous silicon carbide ceramics. 展开更多

The porous alumina ceramics with lamellar structure were fabricated successfully by freeze casting. The viscosities of alumina slurries, pore structures, porosities and mechanical properties of the sintered ceramics were investigated by introducing both types of alcohols as water solidification modifier into the initial slurries, such as ethanol and 1-propanol. With the addition of ethanol or 1-propanol, the viscosities of slurries increased and porosities of sintered ceramics decreased. The compressive strengths of the sintered porous alumina ceramics were improved due to a good connectivity between lamellae with the addition of both types of alcohols. The lowest porosities of 68.52% and 73.72% and highest compressive strengths of 18.2 MPa and 15.0 MPa were obtained by the addition of 30% ethanol in mass fraction and 1-propanol, respectively. 展开更多

Heterogeneous catalysts with ultrafine or nano particle size have currently attracted considerable attentions in the chemical and petrochemical production processes, but their large-scale applications remain challenging because of difficulties associated with their efficient separation from the reaction slurry. A porous ceramic membrane reactor has emerged as a promising method to solve the problem concerning catalysts separation in situ from the reaction mixture and make the production process continuous in heterogeneous catalysis. This article presents a review of the present progress on porous ceramic membrane reactors for heterogeneous catalysis, which covers classification of configurations of porous ceramic membrane reactor, major considerations and some important industrial applications. A special emphasis is paid to major considerations in term of application-oriented ceramic membrane design, optimization of ceramic membrane reactor performance and membrane fouling mechanism. Finally, brief concluding remarks on porous ceramic membrane reactors are given and possible future research interests are also outlined. 展开更多

The preparation and characterization of alkaline resistant porous ceramics from potassium titanate whiskers are studied. K2Ti4O9 whiskers in the whisker preforms (mixtures of K2Ti6O13 and K2Ti4O9) were completely converted to K2Ti6O13 at 960℃. The alkaline resistance as well as the change in bending strength, porosity and permeability of the ceramics was investigated by altering the composition of the preforms in which the content of K2Ti6O13 whiskers was higher than 50% (molar fraction). The alkaline resistance of the porous K2Ti6O13 ceramics is found much higher than that of Al2O3 in caustic NaOH solutions, and further study indicates that the K2Ti6O13 ceramics can be stably used in solutions of pH〉2.0. The bending strength increases initially with the content of the raw K2Ti6O13 in the preforms up to 66% (molar fraction) and then decreases, contrary to the behaviors of porosity and permeability. The values of bending strength, porosity and permeability of the ceramics prepared from the preform of 80% (molar fraction) raw K2Ti6O13 whiskers are respectively 56MPa, 29.4% and 330L·m^-2〈h^-1 , which are comparable to those of the porous Al2O3 ceramics. 展开更多

To obtain porous alumina ceramic with high strength,a novel gelcasting system based on 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA)dissolved in tert-butyl alcohol(TBA)was developed.The polymerization of the HEMA-TBA gelcasting system,the thermal behavior of obtained green body,and the microstructures and mechanical properties of the sintered bodies were investigated by rheometer,TG-DSC,SEM and bending strength testing,respectively.The results show that,(1)10 mg/mL of the initiator(benzoyl peroxide)is the optimal amount for polymerization of this gelscasting system at 25 ℃;(2)The alumina suspension of the HEMA-TBA gelcasting system showing shear-thinning behavior is sufficiently low for gelcasting process;(3)The bending strength of porous alumina ceramic samples,whose porosities range from 42% to 56%,is from(8±0.5)to(91±4.5)MPa. 展开更多

Porous ceramics were prepared with spodumene flotation talings(SFT),kaolin and low-melting point glass(LPG)powder,whose pores were formed by the chemical reaction of hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)).LPG was used to reduce the sintering temperature of porous ceramics and kaolin was used to realize the adsorption to methylene blue(MB)of porous ceramics.The average flexural strength,compressive strength,apparent porosity,water absorption and maximum MB adsorption capacity were 5.60 MPa,4.66 MPa,52.27%,44.32%and 0.7 mg/g,respectively.Moreover,the results of orthogonal experiments present that the sintering temperature and the dosage of H_(2)O_(2)had great influence on the mechanical properties and apparent porosity of porous ceramics,respectively.The main reason for the improvement of mechanical properties of porous ceramics was that LPG gradually became soft with increasing the sintering temperature,which made the mineral particles adhere to each other closely.Kaolinite was not completely converted into metakaolin at 550℃,which might be the main reason why porous ceramics had adsorption properties. 展开更多

The general behavior of micron-particles in the inner domain of porous ceramic vessel was simulated by computational fluid dynamics software in terms of sampling experimental data.The results show that there is an optimum porosity of 0.32 to get a higher efficiency and lower pressure drop during filtration.According to the results of simulation and experiment,it is evident that lower inlet velocity can maintain lower pressure drop and obtain higher collection efficiency and inlet concentration also has a crucial influence on the collection efficiency.The collection efficiency of equipment increases significantly with the increase of inlet concentration when the inlet concentration is less than 6.3 g/m3,but it gradually tends to be stable in the range of 97.3%-99.7%when the inlet concentration is over this concentration. 展开更多

By employing sintering additives of Li2CO3 and Y2O3,porous Si3N4 ceramics are prepared after experiencing the processes of sintering and post-vacuum heat treatment at 1680 and 1550°C,respectively.The experimental results demonstrate the completed phase transformation fromαtoβ-Si3N4 in Si3N4 ceramic samples with a amount of 1.60 wt%Li2CO3(0.65 wt%Li2O)and 0.33 wt%Y2O3 additives.The as-synthesized porous Si3N4 ceramics exhibit high flexural strength((126.7±2.7)MPa)and high open porosity of 50.4%at elevated temperature(1200°C).These results are attributed to the significant role of added Li2CO3 as sintering additive,where the volatilization of intergranular glassy phase occurs during sintering process.Therefore,porous Si3N4 ceramics with desired mechanical property prepared by altering the addition of sintering additives demonstrate their great potential as a promising candidate for high temperature applications. 展开更多

Membrane filtration technology combined with coagulation is widely used to purify river water.In this study,microfiltration(MF)and ultrafiltration(UF)ceramic membranes were combined with coagulation to treat local river water located at Xinghua,Jiangsu province,China.The operation parameters,fouling mechanism and pilot-scale tests were investigated.The results show that the pore size of membrane has small effect on the pseudo-steady flux for dead-end filtration,and the increase of flux in MF process is more than that in UF process for cross-flow filtration with the same increase of cross-flow velocity.The membrane pore size has little influence on the water quality.The analysis on membrane fouling mechanism shows that the cake filtration has significant influence on the pseudo-steady flux and water quality for the membrane with pore size of 50,200 and 500 nm.For the membrane with pore size of 200 nm and backwashing employed in our pilot study,a constant flux of 150L·m 2·h 1was reached during stable operation,with the removal efficiency of turbidity,total organic carbon(TOC)and UV254 higher than 99%,45%and 48%,respectively.The study demonstrates that coagulation-porous ceramic membrane hybrid process is a reliable method for river water purification. 展开更多

Al2O3 ceramic powder was applied to modify the large pores defects on the surface of the porous metal Ti support,in situ oxidation method was a convenient method to prepare defect free ceramic/Ti composite membranes on this basis.In situ oxidation conditions experimental results show that the best condition for preparing the TiO2-Al2O3/Ti composite membrane is under 800°C for 2 h,and the microstructure and pore sizes of the TiO2-Al2O3/Ti composite membranes are affected obviously.The thickness and composition of the TiO2/Ti composite membranes are determined by SEM and XRD completely.The pore size distribution of the composite membrane is measured by bubble pressure method,the most probable aperture is about 3.12μm,while the average pore size of defect free TiO2-Al2O3/Ti is about 3.23μm.After ultrasonic treatment,the slight weight change of membranes reveals no observable change,which indicates that TiO2-Al2O3/Ti composite membranes maintain a good stability. 展开更多

The textural and structural properties were characterized by X-ray diffraction, nitrogen adsorption analysis, and transmission electron microscope. Comparison between pure mesoporous silica and mesoporous silica-zirconia nanocomposite was also presented in this work. The surface area, pore size, and pore volume decreased as the Zr doping in the mesoporous silica framework. But the obtained nanocomposite maintained the cubic Im3m-type mesoporous structure. 展开更多

The results show that, fly ash and red mud proportioning and sintering temperature are the main factors that influence the structure and properties of samples. The influences of porosity, hole shape, angle of crack and other parameters on the ceramics are analyzed. The results show that with the increase of the angle between crack and horizontal direction, the stress intensity factor KⅠ decreases gradually, but stress intensity factor KⅡ increases at first and then it decreases. The value of KⅡ reaches maximum when the angle between crack and horizontal direction is 45°. KⅠ and KⅡ rise with the increase of porosity, and they are almost the same for the circular and hexagonal holes. For elliptical holes, KⅠ and KⅡ reach maximum when the long axis of ellipse is perpendicular to the loading direction and they reach minimum when the same axis is parallel to the loading direction. Moreover, with the increase of the angle between the long axis and loading direction, KⅠ and KⅡ increase gradually. 展开更多

The transport behaviour of carrier gases with inorganic catalytic ceramic membrane used for ethyl lactate production and VOC (volatile organic compound) recovery in the gauge pressure range of 0.10-1.00 bar and temperature range of 333 K was investigated. The gases include Ar (argon), N2 (nitrogen) and CO2 (carbon dioxide). The gas kinetic diameter with respect to permenace was found to occur in the order of At 〉 CO2 〉 N2, which was not in agreement with molecular sieving mechanism of transport after the first dip-coating of the support. However, gas flow rate was found to increase with gauge pressure in the order of Ar 〉 CO2 〉 N2, indicating Knudsen mechanism of transport. The porous ceramic support showed a higher flux indicating Knudsen transport. The surface image of the dip-coated porous ceramic membrane was characterised using SEM (scanning electron microscopy) to determine the surface morphology of the porous support at 333 K. 展开更多

Porous Si3N4 self-reinforce ceramics were prepared by gelcasting using agarose solutions. By changing the agarose content in the slurries, the porous silicon nitride ceramics with different porosities, α→β-Si3N4 phase transformation, and mechanical properties were obtained. When the agarose content changed from 0.2% to 0.8% (w/w, based on powder), the porosities increased from 10.3% to 21.4%, while the fracture strength decreased from 455 to 316 MPa and the fracture toughness decreased from 6.6 to 5.5 MPa·m1/2. Many fibrous β-Si3N4 grains grown from the internal wall of the round pores is the typical microstructure of the gelcasting porous silicon nitride ceramic. Both elongated β-Si3N4 grains and suitable interfacial bonding strength contributes to high fracture toughness by favoring crack deflection and bridging. The growth mechanisms of fibrous grains resulted from the synergy of solution-diffusion-reprecipitation and vapor-liquid-solid (VLS). 展开更多
