Constrained long-term production scheduling problem(CLTPSP) of open pit mines has been extensively studied in the past few decades due to its wide application in mining projects and the computational challenges it poses become an NP-hard problem.This problem has major practical significance because the effectiveness of the schedules obtained has strong economical impact for any mining project.Despite of the rapid theoretical and technical advances in this field,heuristics is still the only viable approach for large scale industrial applications.This work presents an approach combining genetic algorithms(GAs) and Lagrangian relaxation(LR) to optimally determine the CLTPSP of open pit mines.GAs are stochastic,parallel search algorithms based on the natural selection and the process of evolution.LR method is known for handling large-scale separable problems; however,the convergence to the optimal solution can be slow.The proposed Lagrangian relaxation and genetic algorithms(LR-GAs) combines genetic algorithms into Lagrangian relaxation method to update the Lagrangian multipliers.This approach leads to improve the performance of Lagrangian relaxation method in solving CLTPSP.Numerical results demonstrate that the LR method using GAs to improve its performance speeding up the convergence.Subsequently,highly near-optimal solution to the CLTPSP can be achieved by the LR-GAs. 展开更多

Total Cloud Cover (TCC) over China deter- mined from four climate datasets including the Interna- tional Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP), the 40-year Re-Analysis Project of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ERA-40), Climate Research Unit Time Series 3.0 (CRU3), and ground sta- tion datasets are used to show spatial and temporal varia- tion of TCC and their differences. It is demonstrated that the four datasets show similar spatial pattern and seasonal variation. The maximum value is derived from ISCCE TCC value in North China derived from ERA-40 is 50% larger than that from the station dataset; however, the value is 50% less than that in South China. The annual TCC of ISCCP, ERA-40, and ground station datasets shows a decreasing trend during 1984-2002; however, an increasing trend is derived from CRU3. The results of this study imply remarkable differences of TCC derived from surface and satellite observations as well as model simu- lations. The potential effects of these differences on cloud climatology and associated climatic issues should be carefully considered. 展开更多

It is discussed the relationship between the subtropical anticyclone and subtropical easterlies to aim at the problem of high temperature and drought in the globe,further more,the comparison analysis has been made to the earth nutation and the variation of rotation. The research results show that the reasons of severe disaster weather not only are due to atmosphere itself,but have some variation information of earth movement which could be used for the weather forecast. 展开更多

It can lead to the actual gas storage amount being less than that accounted for. Combining numerical simulation and parameter auto fit, this paper ascertains the dynamic variation of the pressure in the storage reservoir, adjusts the actual injecting and producing gas to fit the accounted pressure with the tested pressure, obtains the gas leakage of the storage, and then determines the difference between accounted amount and leakage amount. The result is the actual reserves of the storage. The simulation result shows that the method presented can provide a theoretic foundation for estimating the leakage amount, thereby ensuring the actual reserves, searching the leakage route, and reducing leakage by adjusting the storage method. 展开更多

In thsssse cellular network, Relay Stations (RSs) help to improve the system performance; however, little work has been done considering the fairness of RSs. In this paper, we study the cooperative game approaches for scheduling in the wireless relay networks with two-virtual-antenna array mode. After defining the metric of relay channel capacity, we form a cooperative game for scheduling and present the interpretation of three different utilization objectives physically and mathematically. Then, a Nash Bargaining Solution (NBS) is utilized for resource allocation considering the traffic load fairness for relays. After proving the existence and uniqueness of NBS in Cooperative Game (CG-NBS), we are able to resolve the resource allocation problem in the cellular relay network by the relay selection and subcarrier assignment policy and the power allocation algorithm for both RSs and UEs. Simulation results reveal that the proposed CG-NBS scheme achieves better tradeoff between relay fairness and system throughput than the conventional Maximal Rate Optimization and Maximal Minimal Fairness methods. 展开更多

Land was important--in the course of spreading and seeking new converts--for both Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) and Church Missionary Society (C.M.S.) in Buha, Western Tanzania. This paper examines the land question as one of the challenges that the White Fathers encountered in their attempt to evangelize communities in Western Tanzania. I argue that the land question remained throughout the late-colonial period one of the unresolved issues, and at some mission stations, impeded the activities of the White Fathers and C.M.S. missionaries. This paper relies on archival documents first, to examine the land question and White Fathers-C.M.S. relations in Buha from 1934 to 1959. Second, I intend to demonstrate the fact that land issues remained at the heart of the missionary enterprise in Buha. Both Catholic and Anglican missionaries were determined to have more mission plots for medical, education and religious purposes. 展开更多

Investigation of new orbit geometries exhibits a very attractive behavior for a spacecraft to monitor space weather coming from the Sun. Several orbit transfer mechanisms are analyzed as potential alternatives to monitor solar activity such as a sub-solar orbit or quasi-satellite orbit and short and long heteroclinic and homoclinic connections between the triangular points L4 and L5 and the collinear point L3 of the CRTBP (circular restricted three-body problem) in the Sun-Earth system. These trajectories could serve as channels through where material can be transported from L5 to L3 by performing small maneuvers at the departure of the Trojan orbit. The size of these maneuvers at L5 is between 299 m/s and 730 m/s depending on the transfer time of the trajectory and does not need any deterministic maneuvers at L3. Our results suggest that material may also be transported from the Trojan orbits to quasi-satellite orbits or even displaced quasi-satellite orbits. 展开更多

The reconstruction of spacecraft cluster based on local information and distributed strategy is investigated.Each spacecraft is an intelligent individual that can detect information within a limited range and can determine its behavior based on surrounding information.The objective of the cluster is to achieve the formation reconstruction with minimum fuel consumption.Based on the principle of dual pulse rendezvous maneuver,three target selection strategies are designed for collision avoidance.Strategy-1 determines the target point’s attribution according to the target’s distance when the target point conflicts and uses a unit pulse to avoid a collision.Strategy-2 changes the collision avoidance behavior.When two spacecraft meet more than once,the strategy switches the target points of the two spacecraft.In Strategy-3,the spacecraft closer to the target has higher priority in target allocation.Strategy-3 also switches the target points when two spacecraft encounter more than once.The three strategies for a given position,different completion times,and random position are compared.Numerical simulations show that all three strategies can accomplish the spacecraft cluster's reconfiguration under the specified requirements.Strategy-3 is better than Strategy-1 in all simulation cases in the sense of less fuel consumption with different completion times and given location,and it is more effective than Strategy-2 in most of the completion time.With a random initial position and given time,Strategy-3 is better than Strategy-1 in about 70%of the cases and more stable. 展开更多

In order to obtain better optimization perfonmnce, this paper proposes a Novel Adaptive Simulated Annealing (NASA) algorithm for constrained multi-objective optimization based on Archived Multi-objective Simulated Annealing (AMOSA). For han-dling multi-objective, NASA makes improverrents in three aspects: sub-iteration search, sub-archive and adaptive search, which effectively strengthen the stability and efficiency of the algorithnm For handling constraints, NASA introduces corresponding solution acceptance criterion. Furtherrrore, NASA has also been applied to optimize TD-LTE network perform-ance by adjusting antenna paranleters; it can achieve better extension and convergence than AMOSA, NS-GAII and MOPSO. Analytical studies and simulations indicate that the proposed NASA algorithm can play an important role in improving multi-objective optimi-zation performance. 展开更多

The performance of three wireless local-area network(WLAN) media access control(MAC) protocols is investigated and compared in the context of simulcast radioover-fiber-based distributed antenna systems(RoF-DASs) where multiple remote antenna units(RAUs) are connected to one access point(AP) with different-length fiber links.The three WLAN MAC protocols under investigation are distributed coordination function(DCF) in basic access mode,DCF in request/clear to send(RTS/CTS) exchange mode,and point coordination function(PCF).In the analysis,the inter-RAU hidden nodes problems and fiber-length difference effect are both taken into account.Results show that adaptive PCF mechanism has better throughput performances than the other two DCF modes,especially when the inserted fiber length is short. 展开更多

Deoxynivalenol (DON) produced by Fusarium graminearum and F. culmorum in durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. var. durum) is an important food safety issue for the cereal chain. A number of agronomic practices are known to affect the infection and mycotoxin production by these Fusarium species in cereal grains. A field study was conducted to compare the natural occurrence of DON in durum wheat grown under conventional (n = 67 samples) and organic (n = 50) farming conditions during two consecutive crop years. DON mean levels were 95 and 194 μg/kg in conventional and organic durum wheat, respectively. The incidence and levels of DON were higher in the second crop year due to higher rainfall (〉 100 mm) during flowering. Overall, organically managed farming system may provide Lsome reduction in DON levels in durum wheat, which could be attributable to the lower intensity of cultivation in addition to the different system of cropping rotation. However, favourable weather conditions are likely to be more important for DON contamination than crop system. 展开更多

This paper addresses the distributed attitude synchronization problem of multiple spacecraft with unknown inertia matrices. Two distributed adaptive controllers are proposed for the cases with and without a virtual leader to which a time-varying reference attitude is assigned. The first controller achieves attitude synchronization for a group of spacecraft with a leaderless communication topology having a directed spanning tree. The second controller guarantees that all spacecraft track the reference attitude if the virtual leader has a directed path to all other spacecraft. Simulation examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the results. 展开更多

However, with the development of aero-space technology, turbulence modeling faces new challenges. How to further improve turbulence modeling for su-per/hypersonic flows is an urgent problem. Through analyzing a set of data resulting from DNS and experiments, it is foundthat some most popular models suffer from essential flaws, and can be hardly improved following the traditional mode ofthinking. On the contrary, the BL model, which is one of the simplest and widely-used models, can be further improved. In thispaper, through analyzing results from DNS data, the main cause of the inaccuracy in applying the BL model to supersonic andhypersonic turbulent boundary layers is found to have resulted from the mismatch between the location of the matching pointof the inner and outer layers of the BL model determined by the conventional way and those given by DNS. Improvement onthis point, as well as other improvements is proposed. Its effectiveness is verified through the comparison with DNS results. 展开更多

Environmental problems caused by the development of nanotechnology have threatened human health. Investigating the biomedical effects of nanomaterials can help to solve these environmental safety issues. In studies on the biomedical effects of nanomaterials, several types of novel nanoscale probes that allow reliable, sensitive, accurate and rapid biomedical detection have emerged. We summarize recent developments in three categories of these nanoprobes, including noble metal nanocluster probes, carbon-based nanostructured probes, and unnatural amino acid-based probes. Besides reviewing the utility of different nanoprobes in cell imaging and protein detection, we also discuss the molecular mechanism of nanoprobe detection. Perspectives of novel nanoprobe design based on molecular details of biomedical detection are presented. 展开更多
