Tetraspores of C. ocellatus were treated with different UV-B radiation levels(0,36,72,108,144 and 180 J/m2),and thereafter subjected to PAR,darkness,or red or blue light during a 2-h repair stage,each day for 48 days. The diameters and cellular contents of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimmers(CPDs),chlorophyll a(Chl a),phycoerythrin,and UV-B-absorbing mycosporinelike amino acids(MAAs) contents of the tetraspores were determined. Our results show that low doses of UV-B radiation(36 and 72 J/m 2) promoted the growth of C. ocellatus; however,increased UV-B radiation gradually reduced the C. ocellatus growth(greater than 72 J/m2). The MAAs(palythine and asterina-330) in C. ocellatus were detected and analyzed by LC/MS. Our results suggest that moderate red light could induce the growth of this alga in aquaculture. In addition,photorepair was inhibited by red light,so there may be some other DNA repair mechanism activated by red light. Blue light promoted the activity of DNA photolyase,greatly improving remediation efficiency. Red and blue lights were found to reduce the capacity of C. ocellatus to form MAAs. Therefore,PAR,red light,and blue light play different roles during the repair processes for damage induced by UV-B radiation.展开更多

Of these, 26 patients showed well differentiated adenocarcinomas, while 4 patients showed poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas(including one signet ring cell carcinoma). Cancerous and non-cancerous areas were observed after double staining with 0.05% crystal violet and 0.1% methylene blue. The endocytoscopic images obtained were evaluated by an expert endoscopist and an expert pathologist without knowledge of patient clinical data, and endocytoscopic and histopathological diagnoses were compared.RESULTS The endocytoscopic images of the cancerous area were assessed as evaluable in 25(83.3%) and 27(90%) patients by endoscopist A and pathologist B, respectively, and those of the non-cancerous area as evaluable in 28(93.3%) and 23(76.7%) patients by the endoscopist and pathologist, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy of gastric cancer diagnosis using evaluable endocytoscopic images were 88.0% and 92.9%, and 90.6% by endoscopist A, and 88.9% and 91.3%, and 90.0% by pathologist B, respectively. Evaluation of the diagnostic concordance rate between the endoscopist and the pathologist by inter-observer agreement calculation revealed no significant difference between the two observers. The inter-observer agreement(κ-value) for endocytoscopic diagnosis was 0.745. CONCLUSION Endocytoscopy is useful for the differentiation of cancerous from non-cancerous gastric mucosa, making it a promising tool for virtual biopsy.展开更多

The thermal stability, UV absorption and photoluminescent properties of this iridium complex were investigated. Compared with iridium (Ⅲ) bis[(4,6-difluorophenyl)pyridinato-N, C^2](picolinate) reported as a highly-efficient blue electroluminescent material, this iridium complex bearing an oxadiazole-based picolinic acid derivative presents higher thermal stability, more intense UV absorption at 291 nm and similar photoluminescent spectrum peaked at 469 nm. This indicates that tuning ancillary ligand of picolinic acid with an oxadiazole unit can improve the optophysical properties of its iridium complex.展开更多

According to the results, Hg was the primary heavy metal pollutant in Blue Economic Zone, followed by Cd, Cu, and Pb as prevalent pollutants. Heavy metals ranked in order of their pollution degrees are: Hg>Cd>Cu>Pb>Zn>Cr>As;the potential ecological risks of heavy metals follow the order of Hg>Cd>As>Pb>Cu>Cr>Zn. Heavy metal pollutions did exist in this region to a certain extent, and the percentage of potential ecological risk in “strong” and “severe” degree reached up to 13.75%. This composite risk characteristic was subject to the restriction of Hg and Cd mainly distributed in Laizhou-Zhaoyuan- Yantai, Muping-Rushan Goldmine, and other densely-populated regions, threatening the safety production of crops. The combined effects of geological background and human activities, e.g. gold mining and domestic pollutants, were the main causes of high potential ecological risks of heavy metals in local environment.展开更多

The experiment was conducted for 14 weeks at temperatures of 18, 22, 26, 30, and 34℃. The activity of the glycolytic enzymes PFK, PK, and LDH in white muscle increased significantly with increase in water temperature. A reverse trend was observed for these enzymes in the liver, except for LDH, which behaved in the same manner as in white muscle. Cytosolic AST and ALT activity increased in both white muscle and liver in response to warm thermal acclimatization, while a reduction in mitochondrial AST and ALT activity was noticed at high temperatures in comparison with those at a lower temperature.展开更多

The STG composites exhibited excellent photo-catalytic degradation performance for methylene blue owing to a good synergistic effect between TiO_2 and rGO. The STG composites with 1.0 wt% of rGO loading exhibited the highest removalrate of 86.0% for methylene blue and its reaction rate constant(5.27 × 10^(-3) min^(-1)) was much higher than those of pure string and ball-like TiO_2(ST). In addition, the STG composites also showed an outstanding capability for the photo-catalysis degradation of other cationic dyes. In addition, a possible photo-catalytic degradation mechanism for the STG composite was postulated, in which~?O_2^- and~·OH were the main oxidizing groups. This work of fers new insights into a better design and preparation of novelcomposite materials for the removalof organic dyes.展开更多

The Eu(III) complex was characterized by element analysis, IR, 1H NMR, UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, thermogravimetric anal- ysis (TGA), and photoluminescence measurements (PL). TGA shows that thermal stability of the complex is up to 325 ~C. PL measurement indicates that the Eu(III) complex exhibits intense red-emission and extends their excitation bands to visible region. LEDs device was successfully fabricated by precoating complex EuL3 (phen) onto 460 nm blue-emitting InGaN chip. The emission of device shows that the complex can act as red phosphor in combination with 460 nm blue-emitting chips. This europium complex based on 1-(7-(tert-butyl)-9- ethyl-9H-carbazol-2-yl)-4,4,4-trifluorobutane-l,3-dione is a kind of interesting red-emitting material excited by blue light, which could avoid the damage of excitation by UV light.展开更多

Water footprint is divided into green water footprint and blue water footprint but the former one is often ignored.In this paper waterJootprint includes blue water needed by agricultural irrigation, industrial and domestic water demand, and green water needed by crops, economic forests, livestock prochtcts, forestlalands and grasslands. The study calculates the footprint of the Jinghe River basin in 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005 with quarto methods. Results of research show that water footprints reached 164.1 ×10^8m3, 175. 69 ×10^8m3 and 178. 45 ×10^8m3 respectively in 1990, 1995 and 2000 including that of ecological water use, but reached 77.68×10^8m3, 94.24×10^8m3, 92.92×10^8m3 and 111.36 ×10^8m3 respectively excluding that of ecological water use. Green water.footprint is much more than blue water footprint; thereby, green water plays an important role in economic development and ecological construction The dynamic change of water footprints shows that blue water use increases rapidly and that the ecological water use is occupied by economie and domestic water use. The change also shows that water use is transferred from primary industry to secondary industry In primary industry, it is transferred from crops farming to forestry, and animal agriculture. The factors impelling the change include development anticipation on econonomy; government policies, readjustment of the industrial structure, population growth, the raise of urbanization level, and structurul change of consumption, low level of waler-saving and poor ability of waste water treatment.With blue water use per unit, green water use per unit, blue water use structure and green water use structure, we analyzed the difference of the six ecologieal function districts of the Jinghe River basin. Future ecological construction may influence on blue water use of District V and District Ⅵ at middle and lower reaches. At last some suggestions are given for effective water resouree use.展开更多

To detect histological characteristic of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL). Methods. In each of 20 skeletally mature male mongrels and 4 men, the ACL and MCL were examined by standard hematoxylin- eosin procedure and toluidine blue staining for histologic observation. Results. The fibroblasts in medial collateral are elongated to spindle shape and aligned in a row between the bundles of collagenous fibers. Toluidine blue staining is negative. The anterior cruciate ligament demonstrated more heterogenous cell types and arrangement. It had three major cell forms:spindle, round and ovoid type, which were shorter but greater than the cells in medial collateral ligament. Toluidine blue staining was positive in anterior cruciate ligament. Most cells in anterior cruciate ligament were enclosed within lacunae. Conclusion. This study suggests that the ACL has different histological characteristics from MCL, and is more cartilage- like in nature.展开更多
A novel polysaccharide-bonded abrasive tool is proposed for the green machining of single-crystal sapphires.The prescription and manufacturing process of the proposed tool is designed,and the gelation property of poly...A novel polysaccharide-bonded abrasive tool is proposed for the green machining of single-crystal sapphires.The prescription and manufacturing process of the proposed tool is designed,and the gelation property of polysaccharide by microwave treatment is investigated.Abrasive tool samples are fabricated,and a machining experiment on a single-crystal sapphire is performed.It is found that the crystallinity of polysaccharide gel decreases as the proportion of cross-linked polysaccharide increases.Abrasive tool samples with cross-linked polysaccharide present higher surface hardness.With the new abrasive tool,the surface quality of sapphire wafer can be significantly improved.This new tool with an abrasive to binder ratio of 2∶1 attains a material removal rate of 0.68μm/min.It is found that increasing the abrasive to binder ratio leads to better self-dressing performance but worse material removal ability and greater loss of abrasive tool materials.The validity of polysaccharide as an abrasive tool binder is preliminarily verified.展开更多

The gas...A laboratory scale downdraft biomass gasifier was designed to deliver a mechanical power of 4 kW and thermal power of about 15 kW. The gasifier was manufactured as a single piece having a water seal and cover. The gasifier was tested in natural downdraft and forced downdraft mode. Ignition of the fuel beneath the grate, during natural downdraft mode, using wood shavings as fuel, produced gas which burned with a blue flame for 15 minutes. Ignition at the throat, using either palm kernel shells or wood shavings, during the natural downdraft mode, the gasifier did not produce syngas. During the forced downdraft mode, fuel was ignited at the throat. Gasification was successful with the palm kernel shells, during forced downdraft, which produced gas which burned steadily with luminous flame for 15 minutes per kilogram of biomass fed. However, wood shavings experienced some bridging problems during the forced downdraft mode of operation. The fuel conversion rate of the gasifier, when using palm kernel shells as fuel in forced downdraft mode, was 4 kg/h. Forced downdraft mode of operation yielded better results and is the preferred operation of the gasifier.展开更多

Magnetic field is the most important aspect in Hall thruster's design. Each time the performance improvement of Hall thrusters is accompanied with the regeneration of magnetic field design. Now, all the maior space nations treat the magnetic field design as the key technology for Hall thrusters, and many Hall thrusters have emerged in recent years, for example, BPT-4000 and NASA- 173M. In China, based on magnetic focus technology, the Beijing Institute of Control Engineer- ing (BICE) has been developing Hall thrusters ranged from hundreds of watts to 5 kilowatts, including the IS00 W HEP- 100MF and the 5 kW HEP- 140blF Hall thrusters. This paper briefly reviews the development of the HEP-XXMF series Hall thruster. The principle of the Hall thruster, the design methods and the current status of HEP-100MF and HEP- 140MF are discussed in the paper.展开更多

Through single factor tests and orthogonal tests, this study investigated the effects of extraction time, extraction temperature, enzyme concentration, pH value, and solidliquid ratio on the extraction rate of indigo pigment. The results showed that the extraction rate of indigo reached the highest(0.218%) when the solid-liquid ratio was 1:20, enzyme concentration was 6 g/L, pH value was 5, extraction temperature was 50℃, and extraction time was 3 h. The method had greatly shortened the extraction time, simplified the extraction process, and improved the extraction efficiency while producing little pollution and meeting the green environmental protection requirements.展开更多

In this study, to develop an effective strategy for production of manganese peroxidase(Mn P)from cassava residue by Phanerochaete chrysosporium in solid state fermentation, the stimulators of Mn P production were screened and their concentrations were optimized by one-at-a-time experiment and Box–Behnken design. The maximum Mn P activity of 186.38 nkat·g-1dry mass of the sample was achieved after 6 days of fermentation with the supplement of 79.5 mmol·L-1·kg-1acetic acid, 3.21 ml·kg-1soybean oil, and 28.5 g·kg-1alkaline lignin, indicating that cassava residue is a promising substrate for Mn P production in solid state fermentation. Meanwhile, in vitro decolorization of indigo carmine by the crude Mn P was also carried out, attaining the ratio of 90.18% after 6 h of incubation. An oxidative mechanism of indigo carmine decolorization by Mn P was proposed based on the analysis of intermediate metabolites with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Using the crude Mn P produced from cassava residue for indigo carmine decolorization gives an effective approach to treat dyeing effluents.展开更多

The results showed significant variation among wheat genotypes in yield and grain physical characteristics, Released cultivars were superior in grain yield, but other genetic resources exceeded the cultivars in regard to test weight, grain mass, or seed plumpness. In case of phytochemical content both genotypic and environmental effects were important for the observed variations. The total phenolic content varied from 120 to 177 mg ferulic acid equivalent per 100 g dry weight; total anthocyanin content from 3.4 to 75.2 ppm cyanidin glucoside equivalent; yellow pigment content from 2.6 and 7.6 ppm beta-carotene equivalent; protein content from 11.3 to 19.1%. The study demonstrated that Ethiopian wheats are a source of high levels of anthocyanins and protein content.展开更多

文摘In this research, soil samples were collected from Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone to investigate heavy metal pollutions in this region and to evaluate the potential ecological risks of heavy metal pollutants based on Hakanson Potential Ecological Risk Indexes. According to the results, Hg was the primary heavy metal pollutant in Blue Economic Zone, followed by Cd, Cu, and Pb as prevalent pollutants. Heavy metals ranked in order of their pollution degrees are: Hg>Cd>Cu>Pb>Zn>Cr>As;the potential ecological risks of heavy metals follow the order of Hg>Cd>As>Pb>Cu>Cr>Zn. Heavy metal pollutions did exist in this region to a certain extent, and the percentage of potential ecological risk in “strong” and “severe” degree reached up to 13.75%. This composite risk characteristic was subject to the restriction of Hg and Cd mainly distributed in Laizhou-Zhaoyuan- Yantai, Muping-Rushan Goldmine, and other densely-populated regions, threatening the safety production of crops. The combined effects of geological background and human activities, e.g. gold mining and domestic pollutants, were the main causes of high potential ecological risks of heavy metals in local environment.

文摘The effects of rearing temperature on white muscle and hepatic phosphofructokinase (PFK), pyruvate kinase (PK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were examined in fingerlings of blue tilapia, Oreochromis aureus. The experiment was conducted for 14 weeks at temperatures of 18, 22, 26, 30, and 34℃. The activity of the glycolytic enzymes PFK, PK, and LDH in white muscle increased significantly with increase in water temperature. A reverse trend was observed for these enzymes in the liver, except for LDH, which behaved in the same manner as in white muscle. Cytosolic AST and ALT activity increased in both white muscle and liver in response to warm thermal acclimatization, while a reduction in mitochondrial AST and ALT activity was noticed at high temperatures in comparison with those at a lower temperature.

文摘Novelthree-dimensionalstring and ball-like titanium dioxide/reduced graphene oxide, TiO_2/rGO(STG) composites were prepared using a one-step hydrolysis process followed by a low-temperature hydrothermaltreatment. The STG composites exhibited excellent photo-catalytic degradation performance for methylene blue owing to a good synergistic effect between TiO_2 and rGO. The STG composites with 1.0 wt% of rGO loading exhibited the highest removalrate of 86.0% for methylene blue and its reaction rate constant(5.27 × 10^(-3) min^(-1)) was much higher than those of pure string and ball-like TiO_2(ST). In addition, the STG composites also showed an outstanding capability for the photo-catalysis degradation of other cationic dyes. In addition, a possible photo-catalytic degradation mechanism for the STG composite was postulated, in which~?O_2^- and~·OH were the main oxidizing groups. This work of fers new insights into a better design and preparation of novelcomposite materials for the removalof organic dyes.
文摘A new Eu(III) complex, EuL3(phen), was synthesized, where L is the abbreviation of de- protonated 1-(7-(tert-butyl)-9-ethyl-gH-carbazol-2-yl)-4,4,4-trifluorobutane-l,3-dione (HL), phen is the abbreviation of 1,10-phenanthroline. The Eu(III) complex was characterized by element analysis, IR, 1H NMR, UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, thermogravimetric anal- ysis (TGA), and photoluminescence measurements (PL). TGA shows that thermal stability of the complex is up to 325 ~C. PL measurement indicates that the Eu(III) complex exhibits intense red-emission and extends their excitation bands to visible region. LEDs device was successfully fabricated by precoating complex EuL3 (phen) onto 460 nm blue-emitting InGaN chip. The emission of device shows that the complex can act as red phosphor in combination with 460 nm blue-emitting chips. This europium complex based on 1-(7-(tert-butyl)-9- ethyl-9H-carbazol-2-yl)-4,4,4-trifluorobutane-l,3-dione is a kind of interesting red-emitting material excited by blue light, which could avoid the damage of excitation by UV light.
文摘Water footprint in a region is defined as the volume of water needed for the production of goods and services consumed by the local people, Ecosystem services are a kind of important services, so ecological water use is one necessary component in water footprint. Water footprint is divided into green water footprint and blue water footprint but the former one is often ignored.In this paper waterJootprint includes blue water needed by agricultural irrigation, industrial and domestic water demand, and green water needed by crops, economic forests, livestock prochtcts, forestlalands and grasslands. The study calculates the footprint of the Jinghe River basin in 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005 with quarto methods. Results of research show that water footprints reached 164.1 ×10^8m3, 175. 69 ×10^8m3 and 178. 45 ×10^8m3 respectively in 1990, 1995 and 2000 including that of ecological water use, but reached 77.68×10^8m3, 94.24×10^8m3, 92.92×10^8m3 and 111.36 ×10^8m3 respectively excluding that of ecological water use. Green water.footprint is much more than blue water footprint; thereby, green water plays an important role in economic development and ecological construction The dynamic change of water footprints shows that blue water use increases rapidly and that the ecological water use is occupied by economie and domestic water use. The change also shows that water use is transferred from primary industry to secondary industry In primary industry, it is transferred from crops farming to forestry, and animal agriculture. The factors impelling the change include development anticipation on econonomy; government policies, readjustment of the industrial structure, population growth, the raise of urbanization level, and structurul change of consumption, low level of waler-saving and poor ability of waste water treatment.With blue water use per unit, green water use per unit, blue water use structure and green water use structure, we analyzed the difference of the six ecologieal function districts of the Jinghe River basin. Future ecological construction may influence on blue water use of District V and District Ⅵ at middle and lower reaches. At last some suggestions are given for effective water resouree use.

文摘Objective. To detect histological characteristic of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL). Methods. In each of 20 skeletally mature male mongrels and 4 men, the ACL and MCL were examined by standard hematoxylin- eosin procedure and toluidine blue staining for histologic observation. Results. The fibroblasts in medial collateral are elongated to spindle shape and aligned in a row between the bundles of collagenous fibers. Toluidine blue staining is negative. The anterior cruciate ligament demonstrated more heterogenous cell types and arrangement. It had three major cell forms:spindle, round and ovoid type, which were shorter but greater than the cells in medial collateral ligament. Toluidine blue staining was positive in anterior cruciate ligament. Most cells in anterior cruciate ligament were enclosed within lacunae. Conclusion. This study suggests that the ACL has different histological characteristics from MCL, and is more cartilage- like in nature.

文摘A novel polysaccharide-bonded abrasive tool is proposed for the green machining of single-crystal sapphires.The prescription and manufacturing process of the proposed tool is designed,and the gelation property of polysaccharide by microwave treatment is investigated.Abrasive tool samples are fabricated,and a machining experiment on a single-crystal sapphire is performed.It is found that the crystallinity of polysaccharide gel decreases as the proportion of cross-linked polysaccharide increases.Abrasive tool samples with cross-linked polysaccharide present higher surface hardness.With the new abrasive tool,the surface quality of sapphire wafer can be significantly improved.This new tool with an abrasive to binder ratio of 2∶1 attains a material removal rate of 0.68μm/min.It is found that increasing the abrasive to binder ratio leads to better self-dressing performance but worse material removal ability and greater loss of abrasive tool materials.The validity of polysaccharide as an abrasive tool binder is preliminarily verified.
文摘A laboratory scale downdraft biomass gasifier was designed to deliver a mechanical power of 4 kW and thermal power of about 15 kW. The gasifier was manufactured as a single piece having a water seal and cover. The gasifier was tested in natural downdraft and forced downdraft mode. Ignition of the fuel beneath the grate, during natural downdraft mode, using wood shavings as fuel, produced gas which burned with a blue flame for 15 minutes. Ignition at the throat, using either palm kernel shells or wood shavings, during the natural downdraft mode, the gasifier did not produce syngas. During the forced downdraft mode, fuel was ignited at the throat. Gasification was successful with the palm kernel shells, during forced downdraft, which produced gas which burned steadily with luminous flame for 15 minutes per kilogram of biomass fed. However, wood shavings experienced some bridging problems during the forced downdraft mode of operation. The fuel conversion rate of the gasifier, when using palm kernel shells as fuel in forced downdraft mode, was 4 kg/h. Forced downdraft mode of operation yielded better results and is the preferred operation of the gasifier.

文摘The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) on three soil amendments,red mud from Hungary, rd mud from UK and beringite from Belgium, wasstudied to determine the surface areas of the amendments using a0.005 mol L^-1 NaCl solution and deionised water as backgroundsolutions. The surface areas determined by the methylene blue methodin the 0.005 mol L^-1 NaCl solution were 3.357, 2.340 and 5.576 m^2g^-1 for red mud (Hungary), red mud (UK) and beringite, respectively,slightly lower than those in the deionised water system.
文摘Hall thruster is a type of electric propulsion thruster which is often regarded as a moderate specific im- pulse space propulsion technology and is used primarily for station keeping and orbit maintenance tasks. Magnetic field is the most important aspect in Hall thruster's design. Each time the performance improvement of Hall thrusters is accompanied with the regeneration of magnetic field design. Now, all the maior space nations treat the magnetic field design as the key technology for Hall thrusters, and many Hall thrusters have emerged in recent years, for example, BPT-4000 and NASA- 173M. In China, based on magnetic focus technology, the Beijing Institute of Control Engineer- ing (BICE) has been developing Hall thrusters ranged from hundreds of watts to 5 kilowatts, including the IS00 W HEP- 100MF and the 5 kW HEP- 140blF Hall thrusters. This paper briefly reviews the development of the HEP-XXMF series Hall thruster. The principle of the Hall thruster, the design methods and the current status of HEP-100MF and HEP- 140MF are discussed in the paper.
文摘This study explored the extraction process of indigo pigment from Baphicacanthus cusia using aqueous enzymatic method for the first time. Through single factor tests and orthogonal tests, this study investigated the effects of extraction time, extraction temperature, enzyme concentration, pH value, and solidliquid ratio on the extraction rate of indigo pigment. The results showed that the extraction rate of indigo reached the highest(0.218%) when the solid-liquid ratio was 1:20, enzyme concentration was 6 g/L, pH value was 5, extraction temperature was 50℃, and extraction time was 3 h. The method had greatly shortened the extraction time, simplified the extraction process, and improved the extraction efficiency while producing little pollution and meeting the green environmental protection requirements.

文摘Bioconversion of lignocellulosic wastes to higher value products through fungal fermentation has economic and ecological benefits. In this study, to develop an effective strategy for production of manganese peroxidase(Mn P)from cassava residue by Phanerochaete chrysosporium in solid state fermentation, the stimulators of Mn P production were screened and their concentrations were optimized by one-at-a-time experiment and Box–Behnken design. The maximum Mn P activity of 186.38 nkat·g-1dry mass of the sample was achieved after 6 days of fermentation with the supplement of 79.5 mmol·L-1·kg-1acetic acid, 3.21 ml·kg-1soybean oil, and 28.5 g·kg-1alkaline lignin, indicating that cassava residue is a promising substrate for Mn P production in solid state fermentation. Meanwhile, in vitro decolorization of indigo carmine by the crude Mn P was also carried out, attaining the ratio of 90.18% after 6 h of incubation. An oxidative mechanism of indigo carmine decolorization by Mn P was proposed based on the analysis of intermediate metabolites with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Using the crude Mn P produced from cassava residue for indigo carmine decolorization gives an effective approach to treat dyeing effluents.
文摘Thirteen diverse anthocyanin pigmented wheat genotypes originating from different countries were investigated for agronomic and chemical traits. The results showed significant variation among wheat genotypes in yield and grain physical characteristics, Released cultivars were superior in grain yield, but other genetic resources exceeded the cultivars in regard to test weight, grain mass, or seed plumpness. In case of phytochemical content both genotypic and environmental effects were important for the observed variations. The total phenolic content varied from 120 to 177 mg ferulic acid equivalent per 100 g dry weight; total anthocyanin content from 3.4 to 75.2 ppm cyanidin glucoside equivalent; yellow pigment content from 2.6 and 7.6 ppm beta-carotene equivalent; protein content from 11.3 to 19.1%. The study demonstrated that Ethiopian wheats are a source of high levels of anthocyanins and protein content.
