Blistering cupping therapy achieves better effects through the formation of blistering fluid after suction. However, it is still controversial whether cupping induced blisters are beneficial to recovery of diseases, and the mechanism is still not completely clear. Here on the basis of the traditional cupping method, we aimed to identify the mechanism of blistering cupping from the levels of biomechanics and molecular biology. The negative pressure attraction induced by cupping suck should be of value in increasing pain threshold and relieving pain as well as improving the blood circulation and metabolism. Furthermore, the blistering fluid induced by cupping was the inflammatory substance actually that discharged through the superficial lymphatic vessels, including immunoglobulin, lysozyme, erythrocytes, etc. which could cause the autogenetic inflammatory reaction of selected cupping area, and further activated certain immune pathways including anti-oxidation, anti-apoptosis, tissue repairing and metabolic regulation. Besides, the formation of scar induced by blistering cupping was not only the result of excessive inflammatory response, but also involved in mobilizing the immune response.展开更多

Methods: 360 cases with the common acne were treated using five methods (embedding acupuncture point into traditional Chinese medicine soaked catgut; traditional Chinese medicine facial mask; taking traditional Chinese medicine orally; auricular point stimulation; discerning and cupping therapy) for 4-8 weeks, and then the improvements of the patients in clinical skin lesion were observed and also compared using the historical control method and the treatment method in the literature history. Results: The total effective rate was I00%, the cure rate was 56.39%, and the efficiency was 30.56%. Conclusion: The curative effect of the common ache treated by the five-joint therapy of traditional Chinese medicine is significant and also obviously better than that of the control method in this paper. Therefore, it is worthy of popularization and application.展开更多

Methods: A total of 122 cases of facial paralysis patients were randomized into treatment group (n=62, treating the disease by stages) and control group (n=60). For patients at the acute stage in treatment group, main point Yifeng (TE 17) was pricked first, followed by performing cupping and moxibustion, for patients at the resting stage, main point Hegu (LI 4) was punctured with reducing needling method, combined with other acupoints in the light of the concrete situations. For patients at the restoration stage, main point Zusanli (ST 36) was punctured with reinforcing method in combination with seven-star-needle tapping at the local affected region. Patients of control group were treated with routine method by puncturing Fengchi (GB 20), Yifeng (TE 17), Jiache (ST 6), Hegu (LI 4), Taichong (LR 3), etc.. The treatment was conducted once daily, with 10 days being a therapeutic course. Results: Following 3 courses of treatment, of the 62 cases in treatment group, 44 (70.9%) were cured, 12 (19.4%) had remarkable improvement in their symptoms and signs, 6 (9.7%) had amelioration, with the cure plus markedly effective rate being 90.3%; of the 60 cases in control group, 30 (50.0%) were cured, 12 (20.0%) had apparent improvement, 16 (26.7%) had amelioration, and the rest 2 (3.3%) failed in the treatment, with the cure plus markedly effective rate being 70.0%. Ridit analysis showed that the cure rate and cure plus markedly effective rate of treatment group were significantly higher than those of control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Stage-aided acupuncture treatment is superior to routine treatment for facial palsy.展开更多

Cupping therapy had been recorded as early as in ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, ancient India and other regions, and has been widely used up to now. It has also spreaded to the United States, and modern developed countries in Europe, and has always been favored by the people around the world. Cupping therapy is the common wealth of world traditional medicine.展开更多

Methods With meridian-cupping dredging apparatus to set cupping pressure at -0.04 MPa, cupping was applied at Dhzhui (大椎 GV 14) and bilateral Dazhu (大杼 BL 11) for 10 min in healthy subject. Blood flow monitoring video system of laser speckle was used to record blood flow of GV 14, Shenzhu (身柱 GV 12), bilateral Feishu (肺俞 BL 13) and Xinshu (心俞 BL 15) before cupping therapy, immediate time of cupping removal and 5 min, 10 rain, 15 min, 20 min, 25 rain and 30 rain after cupping removal. Results Compared before cupping therapy, the blood flow of GV 14, GV 12 and bilateral BL 13 was obviously increased at immediate time of cupping removal (all P〈0.05). Compared with immediate time of cupping removal, the blood flow of GV 14 at each time point after 20 rain of cupping removal, GV 12 at 10 min and 15 min after cupping removal, bilateral BL 13 at each time point after cupping removal was all obviously decreased (all P〈0.05). The difference of blood flow of Shendao (神道 GV 11) and bilateral BL 15 before and after cupping therapy was not significantly different (all P〉0.05). Conclusion The cupping therapy could adjust skin blood flow, which is more obvious near the cupping area.展开更多
