Neon flying squid, Ommastrephes bartramii, is a squid species of the North Pacific Ocean, which plays an important economical role in the international fishery. Logbook data for Chinese squid-jigging fishery over 2004...Neon flying squid, Ommastrephes bartramii, is a squid species of the North Pacific Ocean, which plays an important economical role in the international fishery. Logbook data for Chinese squid-jigging fishery over 2004–2011 were used to evaluate the relationship between the fishing grounds of the squid and the convergent frontal areas, which were defined by the contour lines of specific sea surface temperature(SST) and chlorophyll-a(Chl-a) concentration. Our results indicate that the SST in the range of 15 to 19℃ and the Chl-a concentration in the range of 0.1 to 0.4 mg m^(-3) are the favorable conditions for the aggregation of the squid. Additionally, we deduced that the SST at 17.5℃ and the Chl-a concentration at 0.25 mg m^(-3) are the optimal environmental conditions for the aggregation of O. bartramii. In August, the annual CPUE is positively correlated with the proportion of the fishing grounds with favorable SST and Chl-a concentration, as well as the combination of the two variables, implying that the abundance of the squid annually is largely depending on the presence of the favorable environmental conditions for fishery in August. Minor spatial difference between mean latitudinal location of the 17.5℃ SST and 0.25 mg m^(-3) Chl-a fronts can increase the CPUEs of O. bartramii. Furthermore, the monthly latitudinal gravity centers of the CPUE closely followed the mean latitudinal position of the contour lines of the 17.5℃ SST and the 0.25 mg m^(-3) Chl-a concentration. Our findings suggest the convergent oceanographic features(fronts) play significant roles in regulating the distribution and abundance of the western stock of the winter-spring cohort of O. bartramii, which can help people to improve their ability to discover the O. bartramii fishing grounds with higher productivity.展开更多

The characteristics of the plasma plume and the optical spectra with plasma propagation for different applied voltages were investigated. By increasing the applied voltage, the plasma plume first increases and then retracts to become short and bulky. The shortened effect of Ne plasma plume (about 10 mm) for the further voltage increasing is more apparent than that of He (about 3 mm) and Ar (about 1 mm). Emission intensity of the N2 (337 am) increases with the applied voltage, gradually substituting the emission intensity of Ne (702 nm and 585 am) as the noticeable radiation. At the nozzle opening, the Ne (702 am) emission dominates, while the Ne (585 nm) emission is most noticeable around the tip of the plasma plume. The spatial distribution of the three spectral lines indicates that Ne (702 nm) emission decreases dramatically with plasma propagation while Ne (585 am) and N2 (337 nm) emissions reach their maxima at the middle of the plasma plume. The results indicate that the Ne (702 nm) emission is much more sensitive to the average electron temperature and the density of the high-energy electrons, so it changes greatly at the tube nozzle and little at the tip region as the voltage increases. The population of high-energy electrons, the average electron temperature, the collision with air molecules and the Penning effect between Ne metastables and air molecules may explain their different variations with plasma propagating and voltage increasing.展开更多

As an example, the evolution of 1s^12 s^22 p^6 configuration is given under different incident photon numbers, pulse widths, and photon energies. We have also determined all of the charge-state populations as a function of three laser pulse parameters by averaging over time. The result shows that the variations of these charge-state populations demonstrate a pattern when the pulse width is shorter than 10 fs: some of the charge-states decrease rapidly,while the others rise but remain relatively constant for pulse width larger than 10 fs. The variation of the average charge with three parameters has also obtained. The average charge decreases for a pulse width shorter than 10 fs but remains basically unchanged for a pulse width longer than 10 fs.展开更多

The survival rate, DNA double strand b...Yeast strain Saccharornyces cerevisiae was irradiated with different doses of 85 MeV/u 20 Ne 10+ to investigate DNA damage induced by heavy ion beam in eukaryotic microorganism. The survival rate, DNA double strand breaks (DSBs) and DNA polymorphic were tested after irradiation. The results showed that there were substantial differences in DNA between the control and irradiated samples. At the dose of 40 Gy, the yeast cell survival rate approached 50%, DNA double-strand breaks were barely detectable, and significant DNA polymorphism was observed. The alcohol dehydrogenase II gene was amplified and sequenced. It was observed that base changes in the mutant were mainly transversions of T-G and T-C. It can be concluded that heavy ion beam irradiation can lead to change in single gene and may be an effective way to induce mutation.展开更多

Resonant X-ray emission spectroscopy was applied to neutral neon atom in the regions of the [1s]np (n = 3, 4,…, ε) excited states and [1s2p]3pmp (m = 3,4) doubly excited states to obtain the spectroscopic information on the [2p]np and [2p^2]3prnp final electronic states, where square brackets indicate hole states. The energy levels of the [2p^2]3prnp (m = 3,4) electronic states were spectroscopically measured for the first time. As for the ionic neon target, on the other hand, the photoion yield spectroscopy was adopted to survey the 1s→ np (n = 2, 3) resonant excitation and subsequent Auger decay processes for Ne^+ target-ions. The observed Ne^2+ photoion yield spectrum is successflllly explained by the theoretical calculations based on the nmlticonfiguration Dirac-Fock method展开更多
