New developments of the effect of melatonin on reproduction

In the past decades, a lot of advances in understanding the biochemistry and physiology of the pineal gland have been made. There is evidence that it interacts with many endocrine as well as non-endocrine tissues to influence their metabolic activity modulating many organs and functions. Melatonin is secreted by the pineal gland in the brain and plays an important role in regulating the neuroendocrine system. This hormone is one of the major role players in the regulation of the circadian sleep-wake cycle. It is normally released from the pineal gland during the night in response to environmental changes in light. Studies have shown that melatonin plays a role in the regulation of many reproductive processes such as puberty, gonadal function, and pregnancy. Beside these, melatonin has been shown to be able to directly neutralize a number of free radicals and reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. The main objective of this review is to provide comprehensive information about the new developments in melatonin research regarding its role in reproduction. A review of international scientific literature was done and a question-and-answer format was used in an attempt to convey comprehensive information in a simple manner. This review discusses evidence currently available relating to the effect of melatonin on reproductive processes. It deliberates the mechanism of action of melatonin, its effect on puberty, testicular and ovafunction, pregnancy, and oxidative stress. A growing body of scientific evidence is suggesting that melatonin plays an important role in reproductive function. It is therefore imperative to highlight the beneficial effects of this hormone in improving the reproductive processes.

Necessary and Sufficient Conditions for Consensus in Third Order Multi-Agent Systems

We deal with a consensus control problem for a group of third order agents which are networked by digraphs.Assuming that the control input of each agent is constructed based on weighted difference between its states and those of its neighbor agents, we aim to propose an algorithm on computing the weighting coefficients in the control input. The problem is reduced to designing Hurwitz polynomials with real or complex coefficients. We show that by using Hurwitz polynomials with complex coefficients, a necessary and sufficient condition can be obtained for designing the consensus algorithm. Since the condition is both necessary and sufficient, we provide a kind of parametrization for all the weighting coefficients achieving consensus. Moreover, the condition is a natural extension to second order consensus, and is reasonable and practical due to its comparatively decreased computation burden. The result is also extended to the case where communication delay exists in the control input.

The Integrated Development of China's Industrial and Ecological Civilization:Paths and Policy Options

Judging by the general pattern of human civilization, ecological civilization is not a simple negation of industrial civilization. Given China＇s unique national conditions and uneven process of industrialization, it is inappropriate to separate eeological civilization from industrial civilization. Instead, government should identify the common ground between industrial civilization and ecological civilization, fully utilize material wealth, technology means and organizational system of industrial civilization of the world, leave the freedom of imagination and practices for creating the new-type industrial civilization to businesses and the public, continuously strengthen the material foundation of China＇s ecological civilization, with a view to supporting the development of ecological civilization with high-quality real economy and achieving the integrated development of industrial civilization and ecological civilization while expediting the new-type industrialization and delivering the benefits of industrialization to 1.3 billion Chinese people.

China＇s Service Economy in the Coming Five Years （2011-2015）

This paper suggests that a new approach should be taken for the development of China＇s service sector. Priorities for this include： appropriate objectives for service sector development, enhanced functionality, integrated development between manufacturing and services, improved regional layout of the service sector, and the emergence of reputable brands and leading enterprises. Well-designed and effective industrial policies, as well as calls for major breakthroughs in institutional mechanisms, must support the development of the service sector. Additionally, excessive burdens and difficult financing channels need to be addressed. More attention should be paid to the construction of the credit system, service standardization, and service statistical accounting as element tasks.

Study on ＂Integration of Informatization and Industrialization＂ Characteristics and Its Interaction Relationship with Industrial Design

The ＂integration of informatization and industrialization＂ is a constant development process. In China, the integration of industrial economy and information economy is an inevitable trend of economy development. The social formation of the current industrial society in China will inevitably transform into the social formation of the integration of industrial society and information society. The ＂integration of informatization and industrialization＂ provides necessary technology for economic development,which makes the society have an overall change. This paper tries to make a comparison of the basic features of different formations from the historical development process of the era, in order to summarize the basic characteristics of ＂integration of informatization and industralization＂ and its interaction relationship with industrial design.

Development of a real-time PCR assay(SYBR Green I) for rapid identification and quantification of scyphomedusae Aurelia sp.1 planulae

The complicated life cycle ofAurelia spp., comprising benthic asexually-reproducing polyps and sexually-reproducing medusae, makes it hard for researchers to identify and track them, especially for early stage individuals, such as planulae. To solve this problem, we developed a real-time PCR assay （SYBR Green I） to identify planulae in both cultured and natural seawater samples. Species-specific primers targeting Aurelia sp.1 mitochondrial 16S rDNA （mr 16S rDNA） regions were designed. Using a calibration curve constructed with plasmids containing the Aurelia sp. 1 mt 16S rDNA fragment and a standard curve for planulae, the absolute number of mt 16S rDNA copies per planula was determined and from that the total number ofplanulae per sample was estimated. For the field samples, a 100-fold dilution of the sample DNA combined with a final concentration of 0.2 μg/μL BSA in the PCR reaction mixture was used to remove real- time PCR inhibitors. Samples collected in Jiaozhou Bay from July to September 2012 were subsequently analyzed using this assay. Peak Aurelia sp.1 planula abundance occurred in July 2012 at stations near Hongdao Island and Qingdao offshore; abundances were very low in August and September. The real-time PCR assay （SYBR Green I） developed here negates the need for traditional microscopic identification, which is laborious and time-consuming, and can detect and quantify jellyfish planulae in field plankton samples rapidly and specifically.

Relative Content of Phenoxyethanol and p-Hydroxyacetophenone in Water Phase of Oil-water Systems and Teir Relevant Control Parameters

In emulsion system, micro-organisms survive in water phase, thus concentration of preservative in water phase directly reflects to anti-fungi efficacy. As preservative easily migrates into oil phase, it reduces preservative efficacy. A common solution is to increase preservative amount in the whole system. However this way always brings safety issues as preservative is a major allergen. Another effective but safety way is to prohibit preservative migrating into oil phase. In cosmetic research area, phenoxyethanol （PE） and p-Hydroxyacetophenone （p-HAP） pair gradually emerges to be a popular preservative candidate. Thus this new preservative system has been focused as the research object in this work. The relative contents （C） of both PE （CPE） and p-HAP （Cp-HAP） in water phase has been carefully determined. Eight commonly used oils have been further employed to check CPE and Cp-HAP in different oil-water system. The other infuence parameters such as polyols, processing parameters are also investigated. Results shows squalane, petrolatum, silicone oil and hydrogenated polyisobutene might be good oil phase candidates for formulation when using PE and p-HAP preservative system. In these oil systems, PE and p-HAP are mainly located in water phase. Besides, increasing percentage of 1, 3-butylene glycol, shortening homogenization time or adding preservatives at the end of processing under lower temperature could effectively increase effective content preservatives in water phase, either.

An Analytic Study on Internal Linkages Between Human Development and Globalization

Globalization is often understood as increasing global economic integration, global forms of governance, and globally inter-linked social and environmental developments. The target of this paper~ is to demonstrate the connection among human development, globalization, and institutional quality. The second part provides the methodology of measuring the overall globalization with an emphasis on the 2011 Konjunkturforschungsstelle （KOF） Globalization Index. The KOF Globalization Index includes economic, social, and political contexts. The third part shortly introduces one of the parameters of institutional quality--Human Development Index （HDI） （or rather Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index （IHDI） as the real indicator of the level of human development） and its methodology and results. For the analysis, two out of three dimensions of IHDI were used （long and healthy life and access to education） and two dimensions of Globalization Index were employed （social and political globalization）. The third part compares indices and scores together, analyzes them, and assesses the relationships between the HDI and the Globalization Index. It is possible to conclude from the results achieved in the study that the social globalization has stronger linkages with human development than with the political globalization, yet, spurring growth rates and reduced poverty in countries with poor institutions cannot be achieved simply by globalizing their economies.

Opportunities and Challenges for the Development of Green Detergents

The characteristic of green detergents and it＇s difference with regular detergent was expounded in this paper, according to the kernel of green chemistry. The variation trends of Chinese mainstream consumer group show that the new mainstream consumer group are concerning more and more about household detergent, especially its safety to human and environment. Growing attention of the mainstream consumer group and the standard drafting units on detergent will promote the development of green detergents, however, there are still challenges for the development of green detergents.

An Empirical Study of Urban and Rural Integration Construction Development of Western Region in China --Taking Changji City of Xinjiang Autonomous Region as an Example

The urban and rural integration is a new stage of city development, which is a process of urban and rural mutual supplementary integration, collaborative development and mutual prosperity. It takes the industry and agriculture, city and countryside as a whole, with overall planning and coordination development, through system innovation and policy adjustment, in order to realize the integration development of urban and rural planning construction, industrial development, infrastructure, ecological environment and social career. This paper conducts the empirical analysis on the urban and rural integration construction development of Changji City of Changji Region in Xinjiang, studying the existing problems and restrictive factors of the process in promoting urban and rural integration construction in western region of China and trying to propose the corresponding countermeasures.
