This study argues that the 2008 presidential campaign provided a setting in which Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin began using the rhetoric of victimage——presenting herself as the victim of unfair ...This study argues that the 2008 presidential campaign provided a setting in which Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin began using the rhetoric of victimage——presenting herself as the victim of unfair media coverage. This study analyzes Palin's rhetoric using a three-step approach to Burke's concept of victimage: (1) identification of self as victim, (2) identification of a scapegoat who can be blamed for the victim's problems, and (3) catharsis or tragic dignification. The results of the analysis indicated that Palin's rhetorical strategy emerged during the 2008 election and was fully functional by the time she resigned as Alaska Governor in July 2009. Eventually, victimage rhetoric became her most constant rhetorical theme. Her approach was only partially successful, increasing her positive image among Republicans but contributing to a negative image among Democrats and independents.展开更多

The formulation of recommendations is a crucial step in the development of clinical practice guidelines,which requires tools provided by the GRADE methodology.These tools include the evidence quality assessment tool,t...The formulation of recommendations is a crucial step in the development of clinical practice guidelines,which requires tools provided by the GRADE methodology.These tools include the evidence quality assessment tool,the evidence summary tool,and the evidence-to-decision(EtD)framework.Although there is a methodologically guided standard pathway for formulating recommendations in clinical practice guidelines,it remains unclear how to translate this theoretical pathway into the practical process for formulating recommendations and what the specific steps in this process entail.Therefore,this paper takes the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies Clinical Practice Guidelines on Acupuncture and Moxibustion:Allergic Rhinitis as an example to detail the full process of formulating recommendations and summaries it into a three-step method.Step one:Collect original materials from different sources to create EtD table.Step two:Distribute and collect EtD table,and preliminarily gather the recommendation voting results.Step three:Organize"salami-slicing pattern"guideline development group consensus meeting to formulate recommendations.The three-step method for formulating recommendations in clinical practice guidelines fully utilizes the GRADE EtD table to provide guideline development group with decision-making foundation and reference from multiple dimensions,including the importance of clinical questions,balance of benefits and harms,quality of evidence,resource required,values and preferences,health equity,acceptability,and feasibility.This approach enhances the scientific and practical nature of guideline recommendations.This paper provides a standard operating procedure to formulate recommendations for the incoming clinical practice guidelines,which aims to establish a standard pathway for the formulation of acupuncture clinical practice guideline recommendations.展开更多
Sparse bundle adjustment(SBA) is a key but time-and memory-consuming step in three-dimensional(3 D) reconstruction. In this paper, we propose a 3 D point-based distributed SBA algorithm(DSBA) to improve the speed and ...Sparse bundle adjustment(SBA) is a key but time-and memory-consuming step in three-dimensional(3 D) reconstruction. In this paper, we propose a 3 D point-based distributed SBA algorithm(DSBA) to improve the speed and scalability of SBA. The algorithm uses an asynchronously distributed sparse bundle adjustment(A-DSBA)to overlap data communication with equation computation. Compared with the synchronous DSBA mechanism(SDSBA), A-DSBA reduces the running time by 46%. The experimental results on several 3 D reconstruction datasets reveal that our distributed algorithm running on eight nodes is up to five times faster than that of the stand-alone parallel SBA. Furthermore, the speedup of the proposed algorithm(running on eight nodes with 48 cores) is up to41 times that of the serial SBA(running on a single node).展开更多
A new method is presented to fabricate the triangular fiber Bragg grating(TFBG).The fabrication device is simple,only requires a single exposure and does not need to write complicated program.The transfer matrix metho...A new method is presented to fabricate the triangular fiber Bragg grating(TFBG).The fabrication device is simple,only requires a single exposure and does not need to write complicated program.The transfer matrix method is used to design the fiber Bragg grating,and the grating resonant wavelength and the grating reflectivity can be controlled in order to achieve the triangular spectrum.With different fiber tilt angles,the available bandwidth of TFBG,the linearity and the oblique gradient are also different.In the experiment,the angles 1°,1.5° and 2° are chosen.The results show that the best angle value is 1.5°,and the TFBG has a good linearity,greater gradient and wider available bandwidth.展开更多
