Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) ,environmental scanning electron microscopy(ESEM) ,atomic force microscopy(AFM) and water contact angle analysis were applied to characterize the resulted CCMM.The FT-IR spectrum indicates that TMC reacts sufficiently with polyamine.ESEM and AFM pictures show that the IP process produces a dense selective layer on the support membrane. The water contact angle of the CCMM is smaller than that of the substrate membrane because of the cross-linked hydrophilic polyamine network.Several factors affecting the IP reaction and the performance of the CCMM,such as monomer concentration, reaction time,pH value of aqueous phase solution and post-treatment,were studied. The pure water flux of the optimized CCMM is 14.73 L·m -2 ·h -1 ·MPa -1 at the operating pressure of 0.4 MPa.The values of separation factorαfor NaCl/PEG1000/water and MgCl2/PEG1000/water are 11.89 and 9.96,respectively.These results demonstrate that CCMM is promising for the separation of low-molecular-weight organics from their salt aqueous solutions.展开更多

The effect of the cervical posture, segmental curvature and endplate gradient on this postoperative phenomenon was evaluated. Methods: Between August 2003 and March 2006, a total of the 236 patients underwent one-level corpectomy and TMC fusion. Their radiological examinations were reviewed and clinical outcomes evaluated. Results: In the patients who were followed up for 12 months, TMC subsidence occurred in 54 (28.6%) cases. C6 corpectomy had a significant higher risk (26/60, 43.3%) for TMC subsidence, which was correlated with the variation of the gradient of the vertebral endplates against cervical levels. Although the clinical outcome was comparable with those in the literature, the patients may have subsidence-related problems such as neck-shoulder pain, neurological deterioration and instrumental failure. Conclusion: To decrease the incidence of subsidence, TMC design should be optimized to be in line with anatomic characteristics of the cervical spine.展开更多

The investigation was conducted in 2009 using qualitative analysis with the help of various secondary sources. The study reveals that the company's management style can be characterized as the Family type that implies collectivistic society with male domination, strict rules and laws at work, and long-term orientation. It is also based on several essential principles, such as continuous improvement and learning, respect for people, mutual trust, and teamwork. Two core elements of the Toyota's success are technological innovations and qualified human resources.展开更多

The lean thinking proposed by Taiichi Ohno and developed by Toyota Company has been tested and found effective in several production processes. This paper aims to propose a method of problem solving through the integration of the principles of lean thinking and the TPTOC (Thinking Process of the Theory of Constraints). The method was implemented on a civil contractor, using the research methodology and the action research. We concluded that, after the research, the core problem regarding the company is the technical failure of the administrative staff, which causes delay in the construction works and financial loss. We also concluded that the obstacles that could prevent the achievement of objectives are related to lack of a vision from senior management regarding financial return when investing in employee training. The goal was accomplished with the integration of two philosophies, TPTOC and lean. And only the tools proposed by Fl^vio Augusto Picchi were not enough for executing the action, so new lean actions were verbalized.展开更多

Karakuri Ningyo dolls are, so to speak, wooden automata with exemplification of creative technology unique to Japan. But Karakuri Ningyo dolls have not been appreciated as a significant resource of industrial tourism. The Chubu district of Japan has conserved and cultivated its treasures of Karakuri Ningyo dolls and Karakuri culture in the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology and Toyota company culture. The Museum provides an opportunity to consider the areal power to build up inter-connectivity between several local industrial elements; cotton manufacture as endogenous industry, nearby wood production and the assembly of skilled craftsman of wood working. So the region is one of the representative industrial tourism destinations which the tourist gaze directs upon. However, the region has not been generally recognized as an attractive destination for industrial tourism. This paper explored the significance of Chubu's resources of industrial tourism by tracing the technological development of Karakuri Ningyo dolls and Toyoda looms. This paper also demonstrated the historical uniqueness of the process of the modernaization of Japan.展开更多
