Structural health monitoring is widely utilized in outdoor environments,especially under harsh conditions,which can introduce noise into the monitoring system.Therefore,designing an effective denoising strategy to enhance the performance of guided wave damage detection in noisy environments is crucial.This paper introduces a local temporal principal component analysis(PCA)reconstruction approach for denoising guided waves prior to implementing unsupervised damage detection,achieved through novel autoencoder-based reconstruction.Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed denoising method significantly enhances damage detection performance when guided waves are contaminated by noise,with SNR values ranging from 10 to-5 dB.Following the implementation of the proposed denoising approach,the AUC score can elevate from 0.65 to 0.96 when dealing with guided waves corrputed by noise at a level of-5 dB.Additionally,the paper provides guidance on selecting the appropriate number of components used in the denoising PCA reconstruction,aiding in the optimization of the damage detection in noisy conditions. 展开更多

The proposed method firstly uses support vector machine (SVM) classifiers to learn an initial query concept. Then the proposed active learning scheme employs similarity measure to check the current version space and selects images with maximum expected information gain to solicit user's label. Finally, the learned query is refined based on the user's further feedback. With the combination of SVM classifier and similarity measure, the proposed method can alleviate model bias existing in each of them. Our experiments on several query concepts show that the proposed method can learn the user's query concept quickly and effectively only with several iterations. 展开更多

In the framework of lim... This paper is devoted to the probabilistic stability analysis of a tunnel face excavated in a two-layer soil. The interface of the soil layers is assumed to be positioned above the tunnel roof. In the framework of limit analysis, a rotational failure mechanism is adopted to describe the face failure considering different shear strength parameters in the two layers. The surrogate Kriging model is introduced to replace the actual performance function to perform a Monte Carlo simulation. An active learning function is used to train the Kriging model which can ensure an efficient tunnel face failure probability prediction without loss of accuracy. The deterministic stability analysis is given to validate the proposed tunnel face failure model. Subsequently, the number of initial sampling points, the correlation coefficient, the distribution type and the coefficient of variability of random variables are discussed to show their influences on the failure probability. The proposed approach is an advisable alternative for the tunnel face stability assessment and can provide guidance for tunnel design. 展开更多

The rapid growth of air traffic has continuously increased the workload of controllers,which has become an important factor restricting sector capacity.If similar traffic scenes can be identified,the historical decision-making experience may be used to help controllers decide control strategies quickly.Considering that there are many traffic scenes and it is hard to label them all,in this paper,we propose an active SVM metric learning(ASVM2L)algorithm to measure and identify the similar traffic scenes.First of all,we obtain some traffic scene samples correctly labeled by experienced air traffic controllers.We design an active sampling strategy based on voting difference to choose the most valuable unlabeled samples and label them.Then the metric matrix of all the labeled samples is learned and used to complete the classification of traffic scenes.We verify the effectiveness of ASVM2L on standard data sets,and then use it to measure and classify the traffic scenes on the historical air traffic data set of the Central South Sector of China.The experimental results show that,compared with other existing methods,the proposed method can use the information of traffic scene samples more thoroughly and achieve better classification performance under limited labeled samples. 展开更多

A novel dynamic batch selective sampling algorithm based on version space analysis is presented. In the traditional batch selective sampling, example selection is entirely determined by the existing unreliable classification boundary; meanwhile, within a batch, examples labeled previously fail to provide instructive information for the selection of the rest. As a result, using the examples selected in batch mode for model refinement will jeopardize the classification performance. Based on the duality between feature space and parameter space under the SVM active learning fi:amework, dynamic batch selective sampling is proposed to address the problem. We select a batch of examples dynamically, using the examples labeled previously as guidance for further selection. In this way, the selection of feedback examples is determined by both the existing classification model and the examples labeled previously. Encouraging experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

We cast vehicle recognition as problem of feature representation and classification, and introduce a sparse learning based framework for vehicle recognition and classification in this paper. After objects captured with a GMM background subtraction program, images are labeled with vehicle type for dictionary learning and decompose the images with sparse coding (SC), a linear SVM trained with the SC feature for vehicle classification. A simple but efficient active learning stategy is adopted by adding the false positive samples into previous training set for dictionary and SVM model retraining. Compared with traditional feature representation and classification realized with SVM, SC method achieves dramatically improvement on classification accuracy and exhibits strong robustness. In order to aid this labor-intensive process, Active Learning (AL) is adopted for speech recognition, where only the most informative training samples are selected for manual annotation. In this paper, we propose a novel active learning method for Chinese acoustic modeling, the methods for initial training set selection based on Kullback-Leibler Divergence (KLD) and sample evaluation based on multi-level confusion networks are proposed and adopted in our active learning system, respectively. There is no global definition of what constitutes a large class. The literature, for example, shows large classes as ranging between 25-30 learners in the United Kingdom, more than 35 learners in the US, and 60 or more learners in developing countries. The current study attempted to establish what instructional strategies could be introduced for improvement of teaching learning in the prevailing large classes. A review of research on teaching of large classes highlighted challenges that both teachers and students experience. Effective teaching and learning throughout the study was conceptualized as that situated within a social constructivist framework. This is a descriptive study in design. The literature component of the study utilized a content analysis methodology with a view to identifying strategies of practical application and potential to facilitate learning in large classes, such as Active Learning, Collaborativb Learning, Cooperative Learning, Inductive Teaching Methods, and novel practices including issues on environment for change are suggested. The empirical data indicated that teachers had devised strategies to cope with the large classes, but these needed further development. The implication for these findings is the need for teacher professional development through reflective practice. 展开更多

To improve the ride quality and enhance the control efficiency of cars’semi-active air suspensions(SASs)under various surfaces of soft and rigid roads,a machine learning(ML)method is proposed based on the optimized rules of the fuzzy control(FC)method and car dynamic model for application in SASs.The root-mean-square(RMS)acceleration of the driver’s seat and car’s pitch angle are chosen as the objective functions.The results indicate that a soft surface obviously influences a car’s ride quality,particularly when it is traveling at a high-velocity range of over 72 km/h.Using the ML method,the car’s ride quality is improved as compared to those of FC and without control under different simulation conditions.In particular,compared with those cars without control,the RMS acceleration of the driver’s seat and car’s pitch angle using the ML method are respectively reduced by 30.20% and 19.95% on the soft road and 34.36% and 21.66% on the rigid road.In addition,to optimize the ML efficiency,its learning data need to be updated under all various operating conditions of cars. 展开更多
