Thinking about the problem of terrorism, the author finds its origins in the myth of the Trojan War, treating it as a battle for space, which was the primary basis for the civilizational leap--the expansion of the Greek world to the east, which led to the flourishing of Greek culture, creating a precedent of justified colonialism, provided strategy and tactics-the causal apology of violence-all subsequent wars, colonial campaigns, which was no exception for the migratory flows of the XX century, as a result of which the word ＂terrorism＂ sounded with by force of the song of B. Brecht. The theme of ＂space＂-chucked away, lost, taken away, destroyed, compressed, anarchic, empty, boundless, virtual-remains vital in our time, when the limitless possibilities lead to the limitation of man himself, his emptiness, and ＂complete shortuess＂ （Platonov）, when the treaty as the basis of human existence is rejected, and when you become the Other yourself. The metaphysics of ＂violence＂ is buried in anthropology-in ignorance of one＇s limits by man, in denying the boundaries of ＂another＇s,＂ in unwillingness to ask a question mad find the answer, in laziness and, in fact, in the loss of oneself.

Main Stages of Evolution from Mechanical Automatic Systems to Humanoid Robot

Since ancient times, man has been concerned to create an artificial structure similar to itself. This concern has remained constant attention and creative thinkers most profound since antiquity until today, it is of greatest interest. This article aims to highlight the most significant moments of the evolution from mechanical creatures mythical or real, from antiquity to the present humanoid robots. There are thus shown the most significant variants humanoid imagined or realized since Talos, described in Greek mythology, continuing with mechanical machines during late Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire and then the Renaissance of the post-renaissance, then they are shown the main achievements of the industrialization period from the nineteenth to the early part of the twentieth century, then to the most important made in the last decades of the twentieth century and early twenty-first century. The work is important to stimulate concerns academic theorists and practice but also in the industrial practice specializing in robotics and more generally in mechatronics. It also opens the prospect of defining the concept of an artificial humanoid useful both for human prosthesis with certain disabilities, and a humanoid robot performance.

Who is the ＂Rightful＂ Inheritor of Ancient Culture？ Ancient Greece, Modern Greece, and Richard Wagner

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the reception of Wagner＇s approaches to Greek antiquity by Greek musicologists and composers which took place at the first half of the 20th century. Wagner＇s such readings were parts of wider narrations of archeology and how Greeks perceived their past.This research is largely based on primary sources of that time; its arguments construct two levels of critique： （1） Admiration （the ＇proper＇ aesthetic examples are German models, as exemplified in Wagner＇s work）; and （2） ＂Hellenism＂ as a means to distancing from Wagner （The past of ancient Greece is still believed to be better understood by the Greeks）. The principal conclusions are： （1） Wagner＇s views were admired because Wagner＇s example （ancient culture） should also be an example for Greek composers; and （2） Wagner＇s views were judged on the grounds of： Ideology： the expression of the ＂soul＂; the theory of ＂historic continuity＂; the balance between music, poetry, and dance; Wagner gave superiority to music, modem Greeks （should） give a predominant role to language as a means of expression in an ancient drama, or achieve a balance among the three arts of music, poetry, and dance.

Analysis of Differences between Chinese and Western Sport Philosophy

China is a world＇s ancient civilization with a long history of five thousand years; meanwhile, it is also the headstream of sports culture. Chinese sports aim at building the body and self-cultivation. The movement structures of sports are mainly the simulation of all kinds of movement of animals, which are particular about static and dynamic equilibrium, firmness, and gentleness, getting refined internally and externally. The feature of Chinese sports is the unification of form and spirit. The pattern of Chinese sports is closely related with Chinese philosophy thought, and the constructed Chinese sports culture has become the essential part of Chinese traditional philosophy. Chinese sports have integrated fitness and aesthetic appreciation into one, which is the specific expression of Chinese traditional thought. However, western sports have integrated with western philosophy thought with strong athletic tint. The characteristic of western sports has a necessary connection with the ancient Greek thought. Ancient Greeks had realized that the relationship between human and the nature was not totally dependent with contrariety, so they thought only fighting with the nature could they survive. The origins of thought of Chinese and western sports cultures decide the differences between Chinese and western sports. The harmony of China and competition of the west can be both embodied in sports. This thesis will analyze the differences between Chinese and western sports philosophy.

Who Are the Tsanars？

The present paper is an attempt to identify the terms ＂Tsanars＂ and ＂Sanars＂. The issue remains one of the controversial issues in the scholarly literature. Due to different interpretations of the same sources, scholars come to different conclusions concerning the proper derivation of the terms, the ethnic affinity of Tsanars, their location or migration, and the priority of the evidence in the sources. Since the divergence in conclusions is caused by differing interpretations of the information preserved in Greek, Georgian, Armenian, and Arabic sources, the author of the present paper traces all the relative evidence of existing sources as well as the comments made by their publishers and researchers. The supposition about the Chechen origin of Tsanars, as well as their migration from western or southern Georgia eastward, is critically examined. The author comes to a conclusion concerning the derivation of the terms from the Greek language and submits arguments for priority of the Georgian sources. Proceeding from the sources, the author thinks that the term Tsanars designated a conterminous population, settled along the northern border of Georgia named by the Greeks in the early centuries.

Cancer in the Elderly

The transition to old age involves a series of events, including those that are objectively defined and others that individuals evaluate subjectively. The aim of this review study is the investigation, highlighting and information about the multiple effects of cancer on the elderly. An extensive review of the relevant literature was performed via electronic databases （Medline, PubMed, CINAHL and Google scholar） and Greek and international journals. The exclusion criterion for the articles was the language other than Greek and English. The risk of cancer increases with age, resulting in an increased number of older people seeking treatment. Caring for elderly people with cancer differs from that of adults because of the biological differences in tumor, coexistence of morbidity, as well as various psychosocial issues that can affect the effectiveness of treatment. Despite the reduction in the mortality rate of cancer, the aging of the population is accompanied by a significant increase in the overall number of cancer patients. The main nursing care goal is the limitation of biological and atomic forces and characteristics＇ loss and the adjustment of the elderly to the different phases of the disease. Finally, in the later stages of the disease, the nurse often provides just palliative care.

Quo Vadis Archimedean Turbines Nowadays in Greece, in the Era of Transition？

According to recent hydropower inventories, the first aim of this paper is to prove that Greece is a real ＂Archimedean Soft Small Hydro Development Terra Incognita＂. It is a country in the Era of Transition of nowadays, having an important unexploited hydropower potential of several TWh and thousands of MW. The second goal is to present the results of rediscovering the old screw pumps and the always-modern Archimedean cochlear screw ideas as a series of soft hydropower turbines with inclined axis rotors and floating spiral screw devices. By following the similarity methodology, a few small-scale models of cochlear rotors were designed, developed and tested in an Armfield hydraulic channel. The conventional and unconventional, low or zero-head screw turbines, could efficiently harness the important and unexploited Greek small potential and kinetic hydraulic energy of all the natural watercourses, the man-made open urban or rural channels and the most important tidal or sea currents, producing useful green electricity. The very promising low-head hydropower inventory of Greece, the preliminary experimental results and the research studies of cochlear projects in watercourses, hydraulic works, tidal conditions of Euripus Strait and in the mysterious ＂Sea River Current of Cephalonia＂, seems to give a good answer to the question ＂Quo Vadis Archimedes nowadays in Greece, in the Era of Transition？＂.

Hannah Arendt Reconsidered： Collaboration and the Banality of Evil in Jonathan Littell＇s The Kindly Ones

Hannah Arendt＇s 1963 study ＂Eichmann in Jerusalem＂, based on the former Nazi＇s 1961 trial, broached two highly controversial topics： The first was her theory of the banality of evil--the uncomfortable moral scenario that leads ordinary individuals, for the most trivial and arbitrary reasons, to commit heinous atrocities; and the second was her fierce condemnation of Jewish collaboration with the Nazis. This paper argues that the novelist Jonathan Littell＇s critically acclaimed best-seller The Kindly Ones （2010） provocatively revalorizes and builds upon these two aspects of Arendt＇s study： Firstly, it posits her theory of banality as a challenge to the comforting presupposition that terrible evils can only be committed by a minority of monstrous individuals, by suggesting instead that ＂normal＂ readers share the same capacity to commit atrocities as Nazis such as Eichmann. Secondly, the novel nuances Arendt＇s damning indictment of Jewish collaboration by regarding it as the inevitable consequence of the terrible predicament faced by Jews at that time. Finally, the paper concludes with Littell＇s consideration of banality as a phenomenon that not only invites an uncomfortable moral self-analysis, but also legitimises a return to a justice system based on the ancient Greek model.

Accounting Adjustments on the Discounted Free Cash Flow Valuation Model for Appraising SMEs in Greece

The present paper examines accounting issues that come up when evaluating a private firm under the Greek accounting standards. More specifically, we try to provide an accounting framework for appraisers who, when they try to retrieve intrinsic values of SMEs, make use of the Free Cash Flows to the Firm （FCFF） model. We focus on adjusting the firms＇ statements＇ items in order to produce a nominator that is consistent with the FCFF theory, taking in response---among others--the Greek tax legislation and the Greek General Chart of Accounts. Finally, we produce a rather normative formula, which can be positively used upon this very model （FCFF valuation） in order to assess the value of a private firm in Greece. The formula is explained thoroughly enough via a practical example of a real Greek private firm.

A Case Study of an in Situ Botanical Garden in Zagori, Greece

Between 1998 and 2002, a project for the protection of the natural environment was applied, in the framework of the EU Initiative ＂L.I.F.E.＂, in Zagori, a mountainous region in Northwestern Greece with rich natural and human environment. One of the actions that took place as part of the above project was the creation of an in situ botanical garden in order to raise public awareness of the environment and the flora of the region. During the operation of the garden, the visitors answered questions related to their satisfaction or dissatisfaction of their visit. They also made suggestions for the improving of the garden. According to the number of the visitors and the analysis of the questionnaires, the operation of the garden was satisfactory. The in situ botanical garden proved useful not only for environmental awareness and education, but also for local economy. Two years since its creation, the garden eventually stopped operating. The main reason was lucky of funding. Based on the experience gained, it is suggested that the garden should be re-created under a new approach. Regions, such as Zagori, whose economy is based on environmental tourism, would benefit greatly from such structures. Moreover, in situ botanical gardens can play an important role in the protection of Greece＇s rich flora.
