The influence of reaction temperature, reaction pressure, space velocity and hydrogen/oil ratio on the distribution and quality of products was analyzed with the optimal process regime determined, when the VGO was hydrocracked in the presence of the FC-16 catalyst.展开更多

The paper puts a question about age-related features of searching strategies of elderly people. While searching the informants, as a rule, recollect the only word (a noun, including their own name), they do not choose the most suitable nominations from the available options. They often refuse to search and realize an alternative speech strategy.展开更多

Of direct relevance to the present study is the theory of affective meaning propounded by Osgood. Two hypotheses were tested. According to a "magnitude" hypothesis, affective dimensions (each of evaluation, potency, and activity taken separately) differ in their magnitude across pronouns I, My, Me, and They. A "structural" hypothesis stated that the affective dimensions yield latent factors across (the generality) and within (the concept-scale interaction) the pronoun concepts. Repeated-measures analysis of variance (1-way ANOVA) and confirmatory factor analysis were employed to process data. It was found that each of the evaluation and potency measures yield a significant magnitude change across the pronouns, but there was indicated no significant change across the pronouns with respect to the activity dimension. Therewith, the pronoun My gained a salient value and the pronoun They the smallest value. Using confirmatory factor analysis five models were tested. Among them one model was good fit to the data. It engaged a four-factor solution resulted in that four pronouns are latent affective distinct but related factors and the evaluation, potency, and activity are their indicators.展开更多

Is the attitude to them the same in different cultures? If not, what differences are there? An answer to these and some other questions is being sought in the paper. Producing a false utterance, the sender deprives the communication partner of the right to receive full information. The article presents views of Russians and representatives of Anglo-American culture on telling lies drawing the readers' attention to very serious situations, such as family conflicts between spouses, aggravated with lies. The material for analysis is taken from the texts by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov and the American novel writer Irwin Shaw. The analysis is based on the study of verbal and non-verbal markers of false utterances generated by quarreling spouses. A complex method of researching the literary material combining linguistic, extra-linguistic, and paralinguistic analysis of conflict speech acts with false utterances of different kinds is applied.展开更多

It aims at providing data on both the existing literature on the subject as well as on the empirical results based on answers to a questionnaire. In particular, this paper looks into the difficulties linked to the Hebrew language with regard to the integration of these women, which is regarded as a hindrance towards a better and thorough integration in the city of Netanya. This language barrier affects all aspects of their daily life particularly in the fields of education and employment. This investigation into language barriers is seen through the eyes of one Ethiopian woman within her three-generation family. In addition to the disadvantage linked to language, this survey points out the discrimination which this minority population, especially women faces.展开更多

This paper explores a short story "Mother" (1919) from Winesburg, Ohio and studies it from an evaluation-based perspective embracing the analysis of the artistic language and the style of the author's narration. The main focus of the study is concentrated on the genre-related issues as well as on the determining the reason why Anderson avoids the development of the given text and transforming it into the regime of a more large-scale prose. As it turns out from the analysis, Anderson elaborates a specific style of narration and creates the form that can be characterized as the mode of "epic sketch". Anderson favors to use much smaller meter and scope, and that choice serves the writer's purpose to describe the psychological portrait of one of the characters of the above-mentioned short story.展开更多

While addressing the representations of Biblical female characters, such as the Holy Virgin Mary Magdalene, the Heavenly Bride, and the Whore of Babylon, along with the portrayals of Doukhobor and other women, the paper identifies stylistic features in their textual descriptions. The study establishes connections between Doukhobor texts and Russian folklore and liturgical tradition. The paper strives to identify the place of Doukhobor psalms as an integral part of the Russian literary and folklore heritage展开更多

Working this way is meant to help in the process of learning a language and not to replace the traditional method. Using the platform allows preparation of fully distant learning courses as well as preparing areas that allow providing the learners with materials that are complementary to the main course (face-to-face). Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is nowadays a very popular tool in teaching not only English (although it is the most popular language in Poland), but other foreign languages such as Russian or German. This paper focuses on some methodological aspects of preparing: (1) distant learning language courses that are complementary to the whole English language course and (2) complementary areas (consultations) in Russian and German. In both cases the author shows components that are essential for the success of the teaching process展开更多
