These systems " catch" or repel the failure of the window or in-fill wall pro-tecting life and property from ballistic shards or fragments. They can be designed to be stand-alone in new construction and structural retrofits or used to augment structural hardening tech-niques. During the adsorption, it has different effect on the stability of the model protein in the fixed and non-fixed graphene systems. The tertiary structure of the protein was destroyed or partially destroyed, and graphene surfaces shows the selective protection for some α-helices in non-fixed Systems but not in fixed systems by reason of the flexibility of graphene. As indicated by the interaction energy curve and trajectory animation, the conformation and orientation selection of the protein were induced by the properties and the texture of graphene surfaces. The knowledge of protein adsorption on graphene surfaces would be helpful to better understand stability of protein on graphene surfaces and facilitate potential applications of graphene in biotechnology.展开更多

Findings shed light on the role of the cost accounting system in price assessment: It outlines new opportunities for the identification of the service mix offered as well as for price optimization. Because private companies provide services both within the public system--where the National Health System (NHS) provides fixed reimbursement fees--and within the private system--where prices are defined by each company. Accurate cost information is extremely important to support managers in the analysis of the service mix profitability offered in each system. For the business segment in which companies do not have flexibility in setting prices, cost information enables managers to identify services which may present profitability problems. For the business segment where price flexibility exists, cost information supports the identification of pricing errors so that charges can be better defined.展开更多

As a result, extra vehicle emissions may be produced in an airport area. Even though there are limited studies on such emissions at airports, these estimations were normally based on the date emission models, which might cause bias in emission estimations. This paper proposes an approach to employ the floating car method and Global Positioning System (GPS) to record speeds and acceleration rates of idling and cycling vehicles at airport terminals. The tests were conducted under different time periods and traffic demands with different waiting time. The speeds and acceleration rates are synthesized to yield Vehicle Specific Power's (VSP) and Operational Mode (OM) distributions. Utilizing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emission estimation model Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES), pollutants and green house gas emission indexes (e.g. NOx, CO, CO2 and HC) and fuel consumptions can be easily estimated. As an illustration of the proposed approach, the research team collected GPS data at a terminal in Houston William Hobby Airport (HOU), and calculated the VSP distributions and OM distributions. Emissions of passenger-picking-up vehicles around these congested airport terminals.展开更多

To be confident in correct OOS relaying, the OOS protection device behavior under the vast majority of power system abnormal regimes should be tested. Comprehensive testing procedure becomes especially important for complex power systems when power system parameters and consequently device settings are not clearly defined or may vary in time. For such complex systems the real OOS protection device testing may become a problem because of specific waveforms of signals persisting during OOS condition. The goal of the methodology, presented in the paper, is to achieve the possibility of out-of-step protection device testing under close-to-real power system operation conditions. The power system stability modelling software is used as a source of test signals. The accurate model of power system in conjunction with dynamical modelling features allows to verify the reliability of OOS protection scheme under consideration as also allows the device settings correction, if necessary. The methodology allows to test the real device with signals waveforms which are hardly obtainable using traditional testing technique.展开更多

In this paper, random cryptographic protection is implemented. It is less expensive with respect to computational overhead, time, and energy consumption, compared with persistent cryptographic protection. Under the consideration of weak attackers who have little system knowledge, ungenerous attacking capability and the desire for stealthiness and random zero-measurement attacks are introduced as the malicious modification of measurements into zero signals. NCS is modeled as a stochastic system with two correlated Bernoulli distributed stochastic variables for implementation of random cryptographic protection and occurrence of random zero-measurement attacks; the stochastic stability can be analyzed using a linear matrix inequality(LMI) approach. The proposed stochastic stability analysis can help determine the proper probability of running random cryptographic protection against random zero-measurement attacks with a certain probability. Finally, a simulation example is presented based on a vertical take-off and landing(VTOL) system. The results show the effectiveness, robustness, and application of the proposed method, and are helpful in choosing the proper protection mechanism taking into account the time delay and in determining the system sampling period to increase the resistance against such attacks.展开更多
