Actually, it can not be said that a new branch of science is beginning. In spite of experimental contributions, the real problem is that the theoretical statements of LERN are unknown. In this work, the authors analyze the deuteron-deuteron reactions within palladium lattice by means of the coherence theory of nuclear and condensed matter and, using this general theoretical framework accepted from "cold fusion scientists", it will be shown the low occurrence probability of fusion phenomena. In fact, in the coherence approach, the D-D potential exhibits double barrier features and, in this way, the D-D fusion is hampered.展开更多

A new approach for calculating sample size is developed by combining Bayesian and frequentist idea when a hypothesis test between two binomial proportions is conducted. Sample size is calculated according to Bayesian posterior decision function and power of the most powerful test under 0-1 loss function. Sample sizes are investigated for two cases that two proportions are equal to some fixed value or a random value. A simulation study and a real example are used to illustrate the proposed methodologies.展开更多

Streamwise velocity in cross-sections of the duct and the fluctuating pressure on walls were measured for different flow rates. The velocity contours and their development along the duct were presented and compared with benchmark experiments by Taylor, Whitelaw and Yianneskis(1982) which were for the laminar and turbulent flows of water. The spectra of fluctuating wall pressures were also presented and analyzed. The objective of this paper was to provide a basis for understanding the pseudoplastic fluid flows in curved ducts. The results were also intended for use in the further development of numerical methods and turbulence models for shear-thinning fluids.展开更多
