The cloud simulation results embedded in the Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project (AMIP) control experiment are presented using three satellite simulators: International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP), Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and Cloud-Aerosol Lidar with Orthogonal Polarization (CALIOP) lidar onboard the Cloud- Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations (CALIPSO). Overall, GAMIL2 can produce horizontal distributions of the low cloud fraction that are similar to the satellite observations, and its similarities to the observations on different levels are shown in Taylor diagrams. The discrepancies among satellite observations are also shown, which should be considered during evaluation.展开更多

Its ultraviolet and fluorescence prop...An adenine nucleotide derivative 2-aminoadenosine 5'-triphosphate was chemically synthesized through four steps and was characterized with 1H NMR, 31p NMR, 13C NMR, EA and FT-IR. Its ultraviolet and fluorescence properties at various pH values were studied. Two pKa values for the compound were determined by the curves of UV absorption dependency on pH, Which were 0.68 and 4.83, respectively. The values were consistent with those calculated from ACD/Labs software. In addition, hydrolysis of the adenine nucleotide derivative in the catalysis of potato apyrase was studied. The competition of the ATP analogue with ATP for potato apyrase' active site was proved to be a sequential reaction mechanism.展开更多
The identification of sugarcane varieties through remote sensing is studied to reduce the time taken to identify in the field, also is useful to identify non-certified varieties and to monitor the adoption of new vari...The identification of sugarcane varieties through remote sensing is studied to reduce the time taken to identify in the field, also is useful to identify non-certified varieties and to monitor the adoption of new varieties. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Landsat 7 ETM+ images to discriminate varieties CC85-92 and CC84-75 in the Cauca river valley in Colombia. The method used to measure the spectral separability between varieties was Jeffries-Matusita. The results indicated that the only period where a clear discrimination of the varieties is between 4th and 5th months, with a global precision of 80.8% and kappa index 0.62. The proposed methodology and preliminary results show that remote sensing is a useful tool for monitoring and identification of varieties and could be used for identification of varieties already registered and planted in other countries without the consent of their true creators.展开更多

The analysis of the Ag 3d core lines show the presence of nanometer-sized silver particles in each of the annealed samples,even if these Ag 3d lines appear to be very different from each other. A series of coumarin-derived azolyl ethanols including imidazolyl,triazolyl,tetrazolyl,benzotriazolyl,thiol-imidazolyl and thiol-triazolyl ones were conveniently synthesized and characterized by IR,~1H NMR,^(13)C NMR ...A series of coumarin-derived azolyl ethanols including imidazolyl,triazolyl,tetrazolyl,benzotriazolyl,thiol-imidazolyl and thiol-triazolyl ones were conveniently synthesized and characterized by IR,~1H NMR,^(13)C NMR and high-resolution mass spectra(HRMS) spectra.Some of the prepared compounds showed appropriate logP_(ow) values and effective antibacterial and antifungal activities.Noticeably,compound 14 with bis-triazolyl ethanol group exhibited low minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC)value of 8 μg/mL against MRSA,which was comparable or even superior to reference drugs Norfloxacin(MIC=8μg/mL)and Chloramphenicol(MIC=16μg/mL).It could also effectively inhibit the growth of the tested fungal strains compared to Fluconazole.Further binding studies of coumarin 14 with calf thymus DNA were investigated by UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy.It was found that compound 14 could interact with calf thymus DNA by groove binding to form14-DNA complex via both hydrogen bonds and van der Waals force,which might be the factor to exert the powerful antimicrobial activity.展开更多
In order to evaluate the mineral identification of the hyperspectral data and make a trade-off of the imaging system parameters,a quantitative evaluation approach based on the multi-parameters joint optimization is pr...In order to evaluate the mineral identification of the hyperspectral data and make a trade-off of the imaging system parameters,a quantitative evaluation approach based on the multi-parameters joint optimization is proposed for the hyperspectral remote sensing.In the proposed approach,the mineral identification is defined as the number of the minerals identified and the key imaging parameters employed include ground sample distance(GSD)and spectral resolution(SR).Certain limitations are found among parameters that are used for analyzing the imaging processes.The constraints include the industrial manufacturing level,application requirements and the quantitative relationship among the GSD,the SR and the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR).Regression analysis is used to investigate the quantitative relationship between the mineral identification and the key imaging system parameters.Then,an optimization model for the trade-off study is established by combining the regression equation with the constraints.The airborne hyperspectral image collected by Hymap is applied to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach.The experimental results reveal that the approach can achieve the evaluation of the mineral identification and the trade-off of key imaging system parameters.The error of the prediction is within one kind of mineral.展开更多

Based on the analyses of the Riemann surface structure of the characteristic function, the dispersion features, excitation spectra and contributions of modes excited in the cased boreholes with different cementing types are studied. The phase velocity dispersion studies of leaky modes show that high-order modes form "plateau" regions with one approximate velocity denoted by v separated by their cutoff frequencies, in which the phase velocity changes little with a considerable frequency range, while the group velocity keeps a relatively constant high value. Usually, the operation frequency range of a specific cementing evaluation acoustic logging tool is covered by such a "plateau" region. Mode excitation and contribution analyses show that the first arrivals in the cased boreholes for the poorly bonded conditions are the contributions from leaky modes, where the traveling velocity of the first arrivals processed by slowness time coherence(STC) method is equal to the approximated velocity v. Analyses on generation of leaky modes in the cased boreholes supplement the understanding of the generation mechanism of the first arrivals.展开更多
A uniform and dense TiO2 film was grown on the surface of porous NiTi shape memory alloys(SMAs) successfully by RF magnetron sputtering.The morphology and composition of the surface film were analyzed by using scannin...A uniform and dense TiO2 film was grown on the surface of porous NiTi shape memory alloys(SMAs) successfully by RF magnetron sputtering.The morphology and composition of the surface film were analyzed by using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.The corrosion resistance measurement proved that the surface modified porous NiTi SMAs exhibit better corrosion resistance and over 25% reduction of Ni ion release in the blood of the rabbits in comparing with the samples without surface modification.Moreover,the biocompatibility,as demonstrated by cell adherence and implant surgery,revealed that the cell adherence and bone tissue inducing capability are respectively enhanced over 1.1-1.2 and 9-10 times by sputtering a uniform TiO2 film on the surfaces of porous NiTi SMAs.展开更多
The surface electromyography (SEMG) is a complicated biomedical signal, generated during voluntary or involuntary muscle activities and these muscle activities are always controlled by the nervous system. In this pa...The surface electromyography (SEMG) is a complicated biomedical signal, generated during voluntary or involuntary muscle activities and these muscle activities are always controlled by the nervous system. In this paper, the processing and analysis of SEMG signals at multiple muscle points for different operations were carried out. Myoelectric signals were detected using designed acquisition setup which consists of an instrumenta- tion amplifier, filter circuit, an amplifier with gain adjustment. Fhrther, Labview^-based data programming code was used to record SEMG signals for independent activities. The whole system consists of bipolar noninvasive electrodes, signal acquisition protocols and signal conditioning at different levels. This work uses recorded SEMG signals generated by biceps and triceps muscles for four different arm activities. Feature extraction was done on the recorded signal for investigating the voluntary muscular contraction relationship for exercising statistic measured index method to evaluate distance between two independent groups by directly addressing the quality of signal in separability class for different arm movements. Thereafter repeated factorial analysis of variance technique was implemented to evaluate the effectiveness of processed signal. From these results, it demonstrates that the proposed method can be used as SEMG feature evaluation index.展开更多
