Going beyond the concept of public space, the author can understand the semantic boundaries of this definition: Today, relational spaces and shared spaces are the forms with which people can express the concept of public space. The gradual spread of new forms of communication has transformed the static view of public space in a more dynamic condition, the distinction between square, street, garden has lost its meaning leaving space to fragments and residues. Contemporary public spaces are defined, as the residual places that come from the abandonment of industries. The large mono-functional voids, which originate from industrial dismantlement, should be strategically reconsidered as new shared public spaces, where the integration between different functions leads to reactivate new forms of re-using of built space.展开更多

It addresses the current challenges that prevent such inclusiveness and suggests future trends of its development to be of benefit to the wider city community. It explains how spaces in divided cities are carved up into perceived ownerships and territorialized areas, which increases tension on the shared space between territories; the control of which can often lead to inter-community disputes. The paper reports that common shared space in-between conflicting communities takes on increased importance since the nature of the conflict places emphasis on communities' confidence, politically and socially, while also highlighting the necessity for confidence in inclusion and feeling secure in the public domain. In order to achieve sustainable environments, strategies to promote shared spaces require further focus on the significance of everyday dynamics as essential aspects for future integration and conflict resolution.展开更多

There is a lot of potential locked in spatial data and this potential may be realized by making spatial data readily available for various applications. SD1 (Spatial Data Infrastructures) provides a platform for the data users, producers and so on to generate and share spatial data effectively. Though efforts to develop spatial data infrastructures started worldwide in the late 1970s, SDIs are still perceived by many institutions as new innovation; as such, they have not penetrated to all institutions to bring about effective management and development changes. This paper is reporting on a study conducted to assess SDI Readiness Index for Tanzania. The study aimed at identifying problems undermining SD1 implementation in Tanzania, despite its potential in bringing fast socio-economic development elsewhere in the world. This paper is based on a research based on views from stakeholders of geospatial technology industry in Municipal Councils, Private Companies and Government Departments in Tanzania. Results indicated that Private Companies are more inspired than Government institutions towards implementation of SDIs. And those problems affecting implementation of SDIs are lack of National SDI Policy, lack of awareness and knowledge about SDIs, limited funding to operationalise SDI, lack of institutional leadership to coordinate SDI development activities, lack of political commitment from the Government. It is recommended that delibate efforts be devised to raise awareness of SDI amongst the Tanzanian community.展开更多
In this paper, we present the model of threshold schemes with weights as a natural generalization of Shamir's threshold scheme and show how to apply the model to construct secret sharing schemes by two examples.

Adopting nested association expression approach of XML data, GML data documents can store both spatial information and semantic relationship information of geographical elements. To improve the efficiency of path query on GML two type information, the paper describes a holistic index method for GML data, which we call EKR^+ (optimized R+-tree base on Extend Region Code and K-means extent partition of GML feature elements). The experiment results show that the efficiency of semantic-spatial query can be improved greatly by utilizing EKR^+.展开更多

Here we propose a new service architecture suitable for integra- tion and sharing of distributed multi-source geographic information. We also propose a global virtual pyramid model, which can be applied in 3D virtual globes. In view of the difficulty of web multi-node geographic information sharing service, we propose a web multi-node service aggregation method, integrated in our autonomously developed virtual globe platform Geo- Globe and introduced in the National Platform for Common GeoSpatial Information Services named "T1ANDITU". It achieves 2D and 3D integration for geographic information service.展开更多
