Activated carbon after saturated adsorption of EDTA was used as particle electrode in a three-dimensional electrode reactor to treat EDTA-containing wastewater.Electrochemical method was used to regenerate activated c...Activated carbon after saturated adsorption of EDTA was used as particle electrode in a three-dimensional electrode reactor to treat EDTA-containing wastewater.Electrochemical method was used to regenerate activated carbon after many times of electrolysis.Based on the analysis of infrared spectra of activated carbon after adsorption and repeated electrolysis,EDTA was degraded into glycine,and then non-catalytic activated associated complex was formed with N—H bond on the activated carbon.The catalytic ability of the activated carbon vanished and the EDTA degradation efficiency was dropped.Activated carbon could be effectively regenerated by electrochemical method in the three-dimensional reactor.Effects of electric current,conductivity and pH on activated carbon regeneration were investigated,and the optimum conditions were concluded as follows:100-300 mA of current intensity,1.39 mS/cm of electric conductivity,60 min of electrolysis time and pH 6.0-8.0.Under the optimized conditions,the activity of the activated carbon can be recovered and the residual total organic carbon(TOC) was below 10 mg/L(the initial TOC was 200 mg/L) in the three-dimensional electrode reactor.展开更多

The influence of the activation temperature, activation duration and steam flow rate on iodine adsorption value and regeneration yield of activated carbon was investigated. The response surface methodology (RSM) technique was utilized to optimize the process conditions. The optimum conditions for the preparation of activated carbon are identified to be activation temperature of 831 ℃, activation duration of 40 min and steam flow rate of 2.67 mL/min. The optimum conditions result in an activated carbon with an iodine number of 1048 mg/g and a yield of 40%, and the BET surface area evaluated using nitrogen adsorption isotherm is 1493 m2/g, with total pore volume of 1.242 cm3/g. And the pore structure of activated carbon regenerated is mainly composed of micropores and a small amount of mesopores.展开更多
In this study,spent activated carbon(AC) saturated with caramel was regenerated by using yeast and NaOH.The efficiency of regeneration was evaluated under parameters such as amount,treatment time,temperature,pH value,...In this study,spent activated carbon(AC) saturated with caramel was regenerated by using yeast and NaOH.The efficiency of regeneration was evaluated under parameters such as amount,treatment time,temperature,pH value,stirring temperature of yeast and NaOH concentration.The optimum condition for AC regeneration was 8 h for yeast treatment time,35 ℃ for 0.075% yeast culture temperature,a pH value of 6 for the yeast dealing with the spent AC,90 ℃ for NaOH stirring temperature of AC and 6% NaOH for washing after the spent AC was treated by yeast.Under these conditions,methylene blue(MB) adsorption was 213 mg·g-1 in comparison with 60 mg·g-1 of spent AC.The micro structure and surface area of the regenerated AC were characterized by scanning electron mi-croscope(SEM) and N2 sorption,respectively.The pore size distributions of virgin and regenerated AC were ana-lyzed by means of H-K equation,resulting in a mean pore diameter of 1.28 nm and a pore volume of 1.13 cm3·g-1.This study provides data for theoretical support of the AC regeneration technology.展开更多
In this paper, I first create new frameworks for a reflection on “human” and “humanism” in the time of globalization. As our intellectual perception of the world is becoming more universal and all-inclusive, so sh...In this paper, I first create new frameworks for a reflection on “human” and “humanism” in the time of globalization. As our intellectual perception of the world is becoming more universal and all-inclusive, so should also our hearts. The heart is the inner most core of being human, to become able to expand in unprecedented dimensions of human existence. In this context, I propose forgiveness as the guiding principle of expansion and inclusion, and consequently of becoming more human. If memory helps us to survive, forgetting allows us to go on living. The practice of forgetting, and consequently of reconciliation, is the distinctive and complex moment of human existence, when the human agent makes him/herself open and available to the present moment, and lives fully in the present moment. Once doing so, the present moment becomes the space in which s/he can reconcile with his/her past and shape his/her future. In the second part, I check possible impediments on our way to expansion and inclusion, as well as in our process of forgiveness and reconciliation. Pata?jali, in his instructions to yogis talks about kleshas, i.e. impediments or afflictions, which are weakening our way of thinking and acting. These kleshas include ignorance, ego, attachment, aversion, and the clinging to life. I take these kleshas also as afflictions on our way to becoming more human, or as impediments in our process of forgiveness and reconciliation. Finally, I reflect on the human urge to become more human. In our time of globalization, we are challenged to look at this urge from a universal perspective. This urge, bound with an inevitable process of forgiveness and reconciliation, challenges each religion and its dogmatic teaching, and represents the evaluative criterion. The spirituality, or religion, that which promulgates and lives forgiveness and reconciliation will automatically excel because it will succeed, without losing its own identity, to integrate and include otherness of the other.展开更多
OBJECTIVE:To observe the clinical efficacy of Busuishengxue granules on non-severe aplastic anemia(NSAA)and investigate its effect on the mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase(MAPK/ERK...OBJECTIVE:To observe the clinical efficacy of Busuishengxue granules on non-severe aplastic anemia(NSAA)and investigate its effect on the mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase(MAPK/ERK)pathway.METHODS:Sixty NSAA patients were divided equally into two groups.Subjects in the experimental group were treated with Busuishengxue granules,and the control group with Zaizaoshengxue tablets.The treatment course was 6 months and cu-rative efficacy was compared between the two groups as well as with 10 healthy individuals.Flow cytometry(FCM)was used to detect the intracellular concentration of Ca2+([Ca2+]i).Western blotting was employed to detect the expression of enzymes in the MAPK/ERK pathway.RESULTS:The efficacy of Busuishengxue granules was significantly better than that of Zaizaoshengxue tablets(P<0.05).Before treatment,expression of JNK,phospho-ERK 1/2 and p-JNK was higher,and[Ca2+]i higher,than that of the control group(P<0.05).After treatment with Busuishengxue granules,expression of all enzymes related to signal transduction pathways in the blood cells of NSSA patients were altered to different degrees.CONCLUSION:Busuishengxue granules had a better effect with regard to improving symptom scores,increasing the number of blood leukocytes,and increasing hemoglobin levels than Zaizaoshengxue tablets,and they differed slightly in terms of increasing the number of platelets.展开更多
