[Method] The bamboos were treated by 4 kinds of cold plasma nitrogen, oxygen, ammonia and argon, and the changes of contact angle and binding strength of bamboos before and after treatment were tested. [Result] Oxygen cold plasma treatment could increase binding strength of bamboo by 25%-30%. The cold plasma treatment was very fast and effective, but the changes of contact angle was not great in this experiment. [Conclusion] Cold plasma treatment could increase the binding strength of bamboo.展开更多

The chemical composition on the surface of wood with or without N2 cold plasma treatment was also studied by X-ray photoelectron spec- troscopy (XPS). The results showed: the contact angles of the surface decreased; the surface free energy increased evidently that treated by N2 or O2 cold plasma; the average bonding performance of wood that treated by cold plasma (whether N2 or O2) increased obviously and more than 50% was proved compared with that un- treated by cold plasma. The XPS analysis showed the atomic ratio O/C has in- creased, and more groups were oxidized or more peroxides were formed on the surface of wood; N element was introduced to the wood surface after nitrogen cold plasma treatment and it was estimated to the group of -NH2.展开更多

METHODS: CF was assayed in 284 subjects: 61 with active and 63 with inactive ulcerative colitis (UC), 45 who had proctocolectomy, 35 with active and 20 with inactive Crohn's disease (CD), 40 with other diseases and 20 healthy controls. Trypsin inhibitor (TI) and TI antibody (TI-Ab) were measured in plasma and CF complex by ELISA. RESULTS: CF in active UC was strikingly high compared with all other groups (x^2〈0.001). Similarly, CF was significantly higher in active CD than in inactive CD or in controls (x^2〈0.01). In UC, high CF and TI-Ab were associated with the need for operations. Further, high CF, CF/fibrinogen ratio, low TI and high TI-Ab in plasma were associated with disease activity or refractoriness to medication. Elevated CF was not associated with acute reactants like C-reactive protein and white blood cell counts except for erythrocyte sedimentation rate, suggesting that elevated CF was not a consequence of acute inflammation. CONCLUSION: Elevated CF in active IBD appears to be morbigenous. CF promotes IBD via two main mechanisms, quenching of TI (an anti-inflammatory substance) and impairing microvascular perfusion by forming protein aggregates. CF may also serve as a biomarker of chronic IBD. Additional studies are warranted to fully evaluate the role of CF in IBD and the outcome should contribute to a better understanding of the pathogenesis of IBD.展开更多

In this work, two rice varieties (Oryza sativa L. var. Wasetoitsu and Somewake) seedlings were chilled at 7 ℃, followed by recovery at 28 ℃. Based on the growth phenotype and electrolyte leakage tests, Somewake was shown to be a chilling-tolerant variety, and Wasetoitsu a chilling-sensitive one. The chilling stress reduced markedly the relative water content (RWC) of leaves, accumulative transpiration and osmotic root hydraulic conductivity (Lp) in both varieties. But when retumed to 28 ℃, the water relation balance of Somewake recovered better. The mRNA expression profile of all the 11 plasma membrane intrinsic proteins (PIPs), a subgroup of aquaporins, was subsequently determined by real-time reverse transcription (RT)-PCR with TaqMan-minor grove binder (MGB) probes derived from rice var. Nipponbare during chilling treatment and recovery. Most of the PIP genes was down-regulated at the low temperature, and recovered at the warm temperature. The relative expression of some PIPs in both Somewake and Wasetoitsu decreased in parallel during the chilling. However during the recovery, the relative expression of OsPIP1;1, OsPIP2;1, OsPIP2;7 in shoots and OsPIP1:1, OsPIP2:1 in roots were significantly higher in Somewake than Wasetoitsu. This supports the role of PIPs in re-establishing water balance after chilling conditions. We discuss the diversified roles played by members of the aquaporin PIP subfamily in plant chilling tolerance depending on aquaporin isoforms, plant tissue and the stage of chilling duration.展开更多

The only way to receive sterile spices is to use radiation technology which means to irradiate spices with ionizing radiation. However, this method is quite expensive and raises great resistance of public. And this is the reason why we are interested in implementing plasma technology. The first step of the research was to choose the most appropriate spice. The range of available spices is nearly unlimited, however, we took into account the following ones: sweet paprika, basil, rosemary, saffron, marjoram, thyme and black pepper. Finally, we chose black pepper because it is most often used by butchers to make meat products. It is also called the "King of Spices" or the "Black Gold". Black pepper is one of the most often used spices in the United States and in Europe. It is important to have sterile black pepper when we aim at ripening products for example ripening sausages or some kinds of cheeses. What is more, it was found out that black pepper has antimicrobial properties, antioxidant effects and also antipyretic and analgesic properties. The aim of the research was to receive sterile spices using low pressure cold plasma with oxygen, nitrogen, air, argon and hydrogen peroxide.展开更多

Through the process of solid solution strengthening—cold deformation—nitriding at 400℃, the TC4 alloy is nitrided on surface and dispersion strengthened in bulk at the same time. The white nitriding layer is formed after some time of nitriding. The nitriding speed increases with the deformation degree. The construction was investigated by XRD and the nitride is Ti3N(2-X). The wear test was carried out and results exhibit that the nitrided samples have better wear resistance.展开更多

Based on a relativistic kinetic model, by expansion of relativistic Lorentz factor in terms of lasers amplitude, we obtain the coupled nonlinear dispersion relations. It is observed that due to resonance in the second harmonic of plasma beat-wave, the new EIT pass-band is created in the high intensities of lasers. The effect of amplitude and frequency variation on the dispersion is numerically investigated.展开更多
