[ Method] The Guangxi local cultivar GX-M001 (Jiangchao) with high resistance to Orseolia oryzae (Wood-Mason) was used to hybrid with the known resistance cultivars "Kangwenqingzhan" (harboring GM5 gene), OB677( harboring GM3 gene) from Sri Lanka, HT1350 and high yield end quality cultivar " Guiruanzhan". [ Result] Through pyramiding the multi-resistant genes via routine hybridization, the general resistances of the hybrids were remarkably enhanced. The grades of resistance were also improved, many of the combinations were endowed with a resistance at immune level (grade 0) ; and interestingly, the respective hybridization of GX-M001 (high resistance) with OB677( medium resistance) and HT1350(suscepti- ble) also generate two lines at immune level, which is probably the effects of additive effects of genes.[ Conclusion] By routine hybridization, multiple genes were successfully pyramided, thus generating novel rice lines with multiple resistances. For the rice breeding scientists at the grass-roots level, the resistance-resistance pyramiding is an effective approach to breed high resistance cultivars.展开更多

However, Trump's current policies have already affected S&T innovation and his planned budget cuts will impact US growth potentials. Compared with the US, China is steadily implementing its innovation-driven development strategy with significant improvement in S& T innovation that increasingly supports economic growth. [Method] Total 26 sugarcane innovative germplasm materials of Yunge F2 generation, along with their female parent, were selected as the experimental materials. Based on the observation on appearance of stray green and other five physiological and biochemical indexes, the drought resis- tance of the experimental materials was evaluated comprehensively by subordinate function method, grey relational analysis, and cluster analysis. [Result] The rank of drought resistance of the experimental materials was not exactly the same between subordinate function method and grey relational analysis. However, the drought .re- sistance evaluation results by isometric range-based cluster analysis were consistent with those by the two foregoing methods except Yunge F2 11-68 and Yunge F1 11- 254. At the Euclidean distance of 2.00, the tested materials were classified into four groups. The first group included 8 drought-strongly resistant materials, the third group included 6 drought-moderately resistant materials, the fourth group included 3 drought-poorly resistant materials, and the second group included drought-strongly resistant and drought-moderately resistant materials. The drought resistance coeffi- cients of green leaf numberLtotal leaf number and top four leaves chlorophyll content showed significantly positive correlation with drought resistance comprehensive eval- uation value, thus green leaf number/total leaf number and top four leaves chloro- phyll content could be used as the evaluation indexes of drought resistance in sug- arcane. [Conclusion] The excellent materials possess strong drought resistance and good green holding performance, such as Yunge F2 11-159, can be used as crucial parents and basic germplasm materials in drought resistance breeding of sugarcane. 7展开更多

The phylogenetic analysis indicated that these genes have undergone the birth-and-death evolution. The five APETALA2-1ike genes in rice (Oryza sativa L.) display redundant but distinct expression patterns as demonstrated by RT-PCR and in situ hybridization. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the si...The paper compares and contrasts how Chinese ESL students and American students work on a same descriptive English writing assignment that requires critical thinking. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the similarity and difference between English composition teaching in China and English composition teaching in America in regarding to incorporating critical thinking, as reflected in the use of this assignment. The study uses descriptive analysis of student writings as well as quantitative analysis of questionnaires, student grades given both from the author and several other researchers who are invited to participate in the study. The cognitive abilities in critical thinking basically consist of logical thinking, dialectical thinking, and creative thinking abilities. The study reveals that Chinese students' works generally flow well and they use a language that is coherent and clear. However, the study also reveals that Chinese students have difficulties in implementing critical thinking at English composition learning, and the difficulties lie in creative and dialectical thinking. To cultivate critical thinking, we need to employ affective strategies, meta-cognitive strategies-macro-abilities, and cognitive strategies-micro-abilities. The paper concludes by giving concrete examples in the area of cognitive strategies-micro-abilities in order to cultivate critical thinking.展开更多

The author reports herein two cases of amelanotic malignant melanoma of the esophagus. Case 1 is an 87-year-old woman who was admitted to our hospital because of nausea and vomiting. Endoscopic examination revealed an...The author reports herein two cases of amelanotic malignant melanoma of the esophagus. Case 1 is an 87-year-old woman who was admitted to our hospital because of nausea and vomiting. Endoscopic examination revealed an ulcerated tumor of the distal esophagus, and a biopsy was taken. The biopsy showed malignant polygonal and spindle cells. No melanin pigment was recognized. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for melanosome (HMB45), S100 protein, KIT and Platelet derived growth factor receptor-α (PDG- FRA). The patient was treated by chemotherapy and radiation, but died of systemic metastasis 12 mo after the presentation. Case 2 is a 56-year-old man presenting with dysphagia. Endoscopic examination revealed a polypoid tumor in the middle esophagus, and a biopsy was obtained. The biopsy showed malignant spindle cells without melanin pigment. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positively labeled for melanosome,S100 protein, KIT and PDGFRA. The patient refused operation, and was treated by palliative chemotherapy and radiation. He died of metastasis 7 mo aEer the admission. In both cases, molecular genetic analyses of gene (exons 9, 11, 13 and 17) and PDGFRA gene (exons 12 and 18) were performed by the PCR direct sequencing method, which showed no mutations of KIT and PDGFRA genes. This is the first report of esophageal malignant melanoma with an examination of the expression of KIT and PDGFRA and the mutational status of K/T and PDGFRA genes.展开更多

Test results have revealed that compared with the commercial catalyst RAG under comparable reaction conditions the reaction conversion rate and product distribution provided by the novel catalyst were similar, but the olefin content in gasoline obtained thereof was decreased with the octane rating unchanged along with a slight reduction of olefin content in the LPG fraction. The hydrothermal stability of the novel catalyst was better than the commercial catalyst RAG.展开更多
Thermal treatment technologies hold an important niche in the remediation of hydrocarbon- contaminated soils and sediments due to their ability to quickly and reliably meet cleanup standards. However, sustained high t...Thermal treatment technologies hold an important niche in the remediation of hydrocarbon- contaminated soils and sediments due to their ability to quickly and reliably meet cleanup standards. However, sustained high temperature can be energy intensive and can damage soil properties. Despite the broad applicability and prevalence of thermal remediation, little work has been done to improve the environmental compatibility and sustainahility of these technologies. We review several common thermal treatment technologies for hydrocarbon-contaminated soils, assess their potential environmental impacts, and propose frameworks for sustainable and low-impact deployment based on a holistic consideration of energy and water requirements, ecosystem ecology, and soil science. There is no universally appropriate thermal treatment technology. Rather, the appropriate choice depends on the contamination scenario (including the type of hydrocarbons present) and on site-specific considerations such as soil properties, water availability, and the heat sensitivity of contaminated soils. Overall, the convergence of treatment process engineering with soil science, ecosystem ecology, and plant biology research is essential to fill critical knowledge gaps and improve both the removal efficiency and sustainability of thermal technologies.展开更多

Several large firms in China winning through SI were studied empirically. This paper complements previous publications on the theories of innovation and strategy. This work's findings will be useful for managers interested in our approach, which highlights the importance of SI and focuses on and points out the major pitfalls in the innovation processes. Implementing the dynamic capabilities based strategy innovation can effectively cultivate and develop core competences of corporations. It is concluded that implementing SI is the only path for Chinese enterprise growth in the intensified competition in the knowledge economy.展开更多

Test results have revealed that compared with the commercial catalyst RAG under comparable reaction conditions the reaction conversion rate and product distribution provided by the novel catalyst were similar, but the olefin content in gasoline obtained thereof was decreased with the octane rating unchanged along with a slight reduction of olefin content in the LPG fraction. The hydrothermal stability of the novel catalyst was better than the commercial catalyst RAG.

文摘Thermal treatment technologies hold an important niche in the remediation of hydrocarbon- contaminated soils and sediments due to their ability to quickly and reliably meet cleanup standards. However, sustained high temperature can be energy intensive and can damage soil properties. Despite the broad applicability and prevalence of thermal remediation, little work has been done to improve the environmental compatibility and sustainahility of these technologies. We review several common thermal treatment technologies for hydrocarbon-contaminated soils, assess their potential environmental impacts, and propose frameworks for sustainable and low-impact deployment based on a holistic consideration of energy and water requirements, ecosystem ecology, and soil science. There is no universally appropriate thermal treatment technology. Rather, the appropriate choice depends on the contamination scenario (including the type of hydrocarbons present) and on site-specific considerations such as soil properties, water availability, and the heat sensitivity of contaminated soils. Overall, the convergence of treatment process engineering with soil science, ecosystem ecology, and plant biology research is essential to fill critical knowledge gaps and improve both the removal efficiency and sustainability of thermal technologies.
文摘Based on investigations of 112 Chinese firms and studies on foreign leading corporations, a theoretical framework of dynamic capabilities based strategy innovation (SI) is put forward. Several large firms in China winning through SI were studied empirically. This paper complements previous publications on the theories of innovation and strategy. This work's findings will be useful for managers interested in our approach, which highlights the importance of SI and focuses on and points out the major pitfalls in the innovation processes. Implementing the dynamic capabilities based strategy innovation can effectively cultivate and develop core competences of corporations. It is concluded that implementing SI is the only path for Chinese enterprise growth in the intensified competition in the knowledge economy.
