By multiplying all elements of each column of the binary parity-check matrix H corresponding to the original code with the same nonzero element of any field, the first class of nonbinary LDPC codes with flexible field order is proposed. The second method is to replace the nonzero elements of some columns in H with different nonzero field elements in a given field, and then another class of nonbinary LDPC codes with various rates is obtained. Simulation results show that the proposed nonbinary LDPC codes perform well over the AWGN channel with the iterative decoding algorithms.展开更多

A two-stage flexible manufacturing system is modeled as a continuous time Markov chain. The first production stage manufactures semifinished products based on a make-to-stock policy. The second production stage customizes semi-finished products from the first production stage on a make-to-order policy. Various performance measures for this flexible manufacturing system are evaluated by using matrix geometric methods. An optimization model to determine the level of investment on process improvement that minimizes the manufacturer ’s total cost is established. The results show that,a higher investment level can reduce both the expected customer order fulfillment delay and the expected semi-finished products inventory. When the initial order penetration point is 0. 4,the manufacturer ’s total cost is reduced by 15. 89% through process investment. In addition, the optimal investment level increases with the increase in the unit time cost of customer order fulfillment delay, and decreases with the increase in the product value and the initial order penetration point.展开更多

It is proved that ADRC can reject the unknown input disturbance and guarantee the close-loop stability for the plants with unknown but bounded relative degrees. Meanwhile, some close-loop performances can be achieved. The influence of the sensor noise is also discussed. And it is demonstrated by numerical examples that one ADRC with fixed parameters can be applied to a group of plants of different orders, relative degrees, and parameters.展开更多

Two modeling methods (decision tree analysis and linear discriminant analysis) were used, and their applications were compared. Much more effort was put on selecting soil covariates for modeling. First, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the variance of terrain attributes between soil orders. Then, a stepwise procedure was used to select soil covariates for linear discriminant analysis, and a backward removing procedure was developed to select soil covariates for tree modeling. At the same time, ANOVA results, as well as our knowledge and experience on soil mapping, were also taken into account for selecting soil covariates for tree modeling. Two linear discriminant models and four tree models were established finally, and their prediction performances were validated using a multiple jackknifing approach. Results showed that the discriminant model built on ANOVA results performed best, followed by the discriminant model built by stepwise, the tree model built by the backward removing procedure, the tree model built according to knowledge and experience on soil mapping, and the tree model built automatically. The results highlighted the importance of selecting soil covariates in modeling for soil mapping, and suggested the usefulness of methods used in this study for selecting soil covariates. The best discriminant model was finally selected to map soil orders for this area, and validation results showed that thus produced soil order map had a high accuracy.展开更多
