Chlorine atoms were ?rstly introduced into lignin through its etheri?cation with epichlo...A new method for the preparation of aminated lignin (AEL) through etherification and amination reaction was presented. Chlorine atoms were ?rstly introduced into lignin through its etheri?cation with epichlorohydrin. Then, hydrophilic amine groups were grafted to the modi?ed lignin structure through amination with ethylenediamine to obtain AEL. Subsequent acidi?cation of AEL led to the ionized aminated lignin (IAEL). The results of our analyses showed that the nitrogen content of AEL was 6.9%. Foaming and emulsifying experiments indicated that AEL had better foamability and emulsifying properties than IAEL. Surface tension tests showed that AEL and IAEL had similar critical micelle concentration (CMC). However, IAEL had lower surface tension (36.33 mN/m) than AEL (42.89 mN/m) at CMC. These results demonstrate the promising applicability of AEL as an emulsi?er and that of IAEL as feedstock in the production of detergent and dispersant.展开更多

Determining the source of nitrate pollution is the challenge in hydrology area due to the complex processes of migration and transformation. A new method is presented to determine the source of nitrogen pollution by combining the composition characteristics of stable carbon isotope in dissolved organic carbon in groundwater. The source of groundwater nitrate is dominated by agricultural fertilizers, as well as manure and wastewater. Mineralization, nitrification and mixing processes occur in the groundwater recharge area, whereas the confined groundwater area is dominated by denitrification processes.展开更多

METHODS: Colons from Sprague-Dawley rat fetuses, young and adu...AIM: To investigate the expression of α-fetoprotein (AFP), a cancer-associated fetal glycoprotein, and its involvement during rat colon development. METHODS: Colons from Sprague-Dawley rat fetuses, young and adult (8 wk old) animals were used in this study. Expression levels of AFP in colons of different development stage were detected by reversetranscriptase PCR (RT-PCR) and Western blotting. To identify the cell location of AFP in the developing rat colons, double-immunofluorescent staining was performed using antibodies to specific cell markers and AFP, respectively. RESULTS: The highest levels of AFP mRNA were detected in colons of rats at embryonic day 18.5 (e18.5). Compared to e18.5 d, the AFP expression was significantly decreased during rat development (85% for e20.5, P 〈 0.05, 58% for postnatal day 0.5 (P〈0.5), P 〈 0.05, 37% for P7, P 〈 0.05, 24% for P14, P 〈 0.05, and 11% for P21, P 〈 0.05) and undetected in adult rats. Only the 72-kDa isoform of AFP was detected by Western blotting, the expression pattern was similar to AFP mRNA and conformed to the results of mRNA expression. The AFP positive staining was identical to different distribution patterns in fetuses, young and adult animals and positive staining for both AFP and vimentin was overlapped in mesenchymal cells at each stage tested. CONCLUSION: This study has for the first time demonstrated that AFP is localized in the mesenchyme of rat colon from the embryo to the weaning stage by immunofluorescence and presents 72-kDa isoform in the developing rat colons by Western blotting. The dynamic expression of AFP in the various developmental stages of the colon indicates that AFP might be involved in many aspects of colon development.展开更多

Global water security is a severe issue that threatens human health and well-being. Finding sustainable alternative water resources has become a matter of great urgency. For coastal urban areas, desalinated seawater c...Global water security is a severe issue that threatens human health and well-being. Finding sustainable alternative water resources has become a matter of great urgency. For coastal urban areas, desalinated seawater could serve as a freshwater supply. However, since 20%-30% of the water supply is used for flushing waste from the city, seawater with simple treatment could also partly replace the use of freshwater. In this work, the freshwater saving potential and environmental impacts of the urban water system (water-wastewater closed loop) adopting seawater desalination, seawater for toilet flushing (SWTF), or reclaimed water for toilet flushing (RWTF) are compared with those of a conventional freshwater system, through a life-cycle assessment and sensitivity analysis. The potential applications of these processes are also assessed. The results support the environmental sustainability of the SWTF approach, but its potential application depends on the coastal distance and effective population density of a city. Developed coastal cities with an effective population density exceeding 3000 persons.km-2 and located less than 30 km from the seashore (for the main pipe supplying seawater to the city) would benefit from applying SWTF, regardless of other impact parameters. By further applying the sulfate reduction, autotrophic denitrification, and nitrification integrated (SANI) process for wastewater treatment, the maximum distance from the seashore can be extended to 60 km. Considering that most modern urbanized cities fulfill these criteria, the next generation of water supply systems could consist of a freshwater supply coupled with a seawater supply for sustainable urban development.展开更多

Increasing the labour force participation rates of older workers is a fundamental component of most OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries' response to the fiscal pressures associate...Increasing the labour force participation rates of older workers is a fundamental component of most OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries' response to the fiscal pressures associated with ageing populations. Both pension reform and employment policies are key elements to achieving such increases in participation and reversing the early retirement trends of recent decades. Econometric modeling results from a panel of 12 OECD countries indicate that labour market variables have a greater influence than social security pension value or the standard age of retirement on the labour force participation rates of males aged 55-64 years. Further results from modeling the potential asymmetric response of participation rates to unemployment rates indicate that a decrease in unemployment rates has a greater impact upon increasing the labour force participation rates of older workers compared to the effect of an increase on unemployment rates has on discouraging participation. We found mixed results for the asymmetric response of participation to an increase or decrease in pension value. Findings thus emphasize the importance of labour market oriented policies to reduce unemployment rates in the developed economies in coming years to address ageing population concerns.展开更多

Poor...The adverse impact of chemical agriculture in the India on the soil, water, environment and human health (of consumers and farm families) exacerbates rural poverty, even as agriculture productivity remains low. Poor families, especially women, are the most affected by the health and environmental risks that are brought on by chemical agriculture, and they are hardest hit by the deteriorating productivity. On the other hand, the solid waste management problem in India is increasingly being felt in rural and urban areas. In this study, the author proposes to practice ofvermicomposting as technology for both sustainable agriculture and solid waste management, using the Hydro Bioreactor with vegetable waste. This technique is studied in the present research work which is simple and potentially inexpensive. Experiments were conducted to determine the changes in the physicochemical parameters and the dominant species of microorganisms at different temperatures during entire process of vermicomposting were investigated. The vermicompost developed in the hydro bioreactor was found to have comparatively high value of nutrients which can serve as natural fertilizer. The hydro bioreactor vermicomposting has proved very effective and efficient for developing compost from vegetable waste.展开更多

Nine models are taken from the literature to describe specific organism growth rate and specific ethanol development rate. These models treat all types of fermentation. The Phisalapbong et al. model and the Ghose and Tyagi model show the best fit of the experimental data. This affirms that the batch fermentation of carob is conducted with substrate and/or ethanol inhibition. Some simulations and relationships (X = f(S), E = f(S)) are obtained from the Phisalaphong et al. model. Those simulations show a lot of important and useful results of carob batch fermentation process.展开更多

The standards for illegal conduction this penalty based are the international Cartel rules, the specific legal procedure is beyond the main concern of this study so the obscurity of how this penalty decided is kept aside for the sake of respecting the painstaking labor fruits of relevant executive departments as well as for dispensing political sensitivity related to any academic analysis developed. Three Japanese newspaper reports concerning this penalty fine are selected for critical discourse analysis. Emotional ambience of them is derogative, neutral, and approving respectively. Foucault's triad relationship of discourse-power-identity is borrowed and the postmodernists' view of the "other" is corroborated with the self-presentation of China. Positive self-presentation is underscored by the contrast of negative other-presentation and vice versa, the negative commendation on this punishment event revealed in certain news coverage is to lessen the negative image of Japanese enterprises because of their shared Japanese identity. However their fundamental tone maybe, the fact that China evolves to be able to handle the illegal international events in its confines with dignity is tacitly recognized as a warning in three newspapers. The new identity of China is thus highlighted as the role of the other by the Japanese media. The reason why Japanese accept it instead of staging substantial resistance is analyzed from the Japanese cultural considerations of the hierarchical sequence or the "weizhiyishi" (positional consciousness or postural consciousness), and the practical reasons of why Hitachi and Nachi commit self-confession is analyzed. All these responses from Japanese side are the manifestation of China's being in charge of the situation, it has the ball at its feet in this power gaming.展开更多

Recently, the recognition that chronic inflammation in the tumor microenvironment promotes tumor growth and survival during different stages of breast cancer development has led to the development of novel immunotherapies. Several immunotherapeutic strategies have been studied both preclinically and clinically and already have been shown to enhance the efficacy of conven- tional treatment modalities. Therefore, therapies targeting the immune system may represent a promising next-generation approach for the treatment of breast cancers. This review will discuss recent findings that elucidate the roles of suppressive immune cells and proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines in the tumor-promoting microen- vironment, and the most current immunotherapeutic strategies in breast cancer.展开更多

CONCLUSION: These results indicate that WFSl may be involved in some aspects of pancreatic development and further research on WFS1 may provide new evidences to prove the interactions between mesenchyma and epithelia at the same time.
文摘Increasing the labour force participation rates of older workers is a fundamental component of most OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries' response to the fiscal pressures associated with ageing populations. Both pension reform and employment policies are key elements to achieving such increases in participation and reversing the early retirement trends of recent decades. Econometric modeling results from a panel of 12 OECD countries indicate that labour market variables have a greater influence than social security pension value or the standard age of retirement on the labour force participation rates of males aged 55-64 years. Further results from modeling the potential asymmetric response of participation rates to unemployment rates indicate that a decrease in unemployment rates has a greater impact upon increasing the labour force participation rates of older workers compared to the effect of an increase on unemployment rates has on discouraging participation. We found mixed results for the asymmetric response of participation to an increase or decrease in pension value. Findings thus emphasize the importance of labour market oriented policies to reduce unemployment rates in the developed economies in coming years to address ageing population concerns.

文摘The adverse impact of chemical agriculture in the India on the soil, water, environment and human health (of consumers and farm families) exacerbates rural poverty, even as agriculture productivity remains low. Poor families, especially women, are the most affected by the health and environmental risks that are brought on by chemical agriculture, and they are hardest hit by the deteriorating productivity. On the other hand, the solid waste management problem in India is increasingly being felt in rural and urban areas. In this study, the author proposes to practice ofvermicomposting as technology for both sustainable agriculture and solid waste management, using the Hydro Bioreactor with vegetable waste. This technique is studied in the present research work which is simple and potentially inexpensive. Experiments were conducted to determine the changes in the physicochemical parameters and the dominant species of microorganisms at different temperatures during entire process of vermicomposting were investigated. The vermicompost developed in the hydro bioreactor was found to have comparatively high value of nutrients which can serve as natural fertilizer. The hydro bioreactor vermicomposting has proved very effective and efficient for developing compost from vegetable waste.

The theory of innovation in economics, management, sociology, oriental management, and related disciplines provided methodology for the development of tourism resources and pointed out the direction. With the development of tourism, the cruise economy has grown and the urban economy has been rapidly developed and improved. However, while cruise tourism brings economic benefits, the discharge of various waste water and exhaust gas from cruise ships of major cruise companies also brings about some environmental pollution problems. Therefore, the environmental protection issue of cruise tourism companies is a sustainable development issue. Persisting in sustainable development strategy, we attach importance to the environmental governance of the cruise tourism industry.
文摘Modelling of carob batch fermentation is established basing on mass transfer balances. The modelling treats the reaction kinetics of substrate (S), the micro-organisms (X) and the ethanol (E). Nine models are taken from the literature to describe specific organism growth rate and specific ethanol development rate. These models treat all types of fermentation. The Phisalapbong et al. model and the Ghose and Tyagi model show the best fit of the experimental data. This affirms that the batch fermentation of carob is conducted with substrate and/or ethanol inhibition. Some simulations and relationships (X = f(S), E = f(S)) are obtained from the Phisalaphong et al. model. Those simulations show a lot of important and useful results of carob batch fermentation process.
文摘The identity transformation of China is analyzed through the legal punishment given by China's National Development and Reform Commission on Japanese automotive parts and bearings enterprises that broke China's Monopoly Law by price- fixing in the automotive parts market of China for more than ten years. The standards for illegal conduction this penalty based are the international Cartel rules, the specific legal procedure is beyond the main concern of this study so the obscurity of how this penalty decided is kept aside for the sake of respecting the painstaking labor fruits of relevant executive departments as well as for dispensing political sensitivity related to any academic analysis developed. Three Japanese newspaper reports concerning this penalty fine are selected for critical discourse analysis. Emotional ambience of them is derogative, neutral, and approving respectively. Foucault's triad relationship of discourse-power-identity is borrowed and the postmodernists' view of the "other" is corroborated with the self-presentation of China. Positive self-presentation is underscored by the contrast of negative other-presentation and vice versa, the negative commendation on this punishment event revealed in certain news coverage is to lessen the negative image of Japanese enterprises because of their shared Japanese identity. However their fundamental tone maybe, the fact that China evolves to be able to handle the illegal international events in its confines with dignity is tacitly recognized as a warning in three newspapers. The new identity of China is thus highlighted as the role of the other by the Japanese media. The reason why Japanese accept it instead of staging substantial resistance is analyzed from the Japanese cultural considerations of the hierarchical sequence or the "weizhiyishi" (positional consciousness or postural consciousness), and the practical reasons of why Hitachi and Nachi commit self-confession is analyzed. All these responses from Japanese side are the manifestation of China's being in charge of the situation, it has the ball at its feet in this power gaming.

文摘This paper deals with an inverse problem for the unknown source term in a nonlinear evolution equation. Firstly, the authors change the initial boundary value problem (IBVP) for the equation into a Cauchy problem for a certain nonlinear evolution equation. Secondly, using the semigroup theory, the authors establish the existence and uniqueness of the solution for the inverse problem. Finally, they take advantage of the fixed point method for some contraction mapping and get the solvability of the inverse problem for the evolution equation.
文摘Standard treatment options for breast cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and targeted therapies, such as adjuvant hormonal therapy and monoclonal antibodies. Recently, the recognition that chronic inflammation in the tumor microenvironment promotes tumor growth and survival during different stages of breast cancer development has led to the development of novel immunotherapies. Several immunotherapeutic strategies have been studied both preclinically and clinically and already have been shown to enhance the efficacy of conven- tional treatment modalities. Therefore, therapies targeting the immune system may represent a promising next-generation approach for the treatment of breast cancers. This review will discuss recent findings that elucidate the roles of suppressive immune cells and proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines in the tumor-promoting microen- vironment, and the most current immunotherapeutic strategies in breast cancer.

文摘After the microbiology based on Pasteur's method and polymerase chain reaction(PCR), the diagnosis company named Dendris has proposed a third-generation of diagnosis enabling the search of a broad range of pathogens with strong sensitivity and specificity. This extraordinary profile was possible thanks to the use of phosphorus dendrimers for which various techniques of deposition on a given support were investigated and described and analyzed in this report.
