However, most residents are ordinary people. Therefore, it is necessary to change the awareness of sustainable living environments, not only on the construction side but also the residents. In recent years, the number of cases of residents' participation in planning, maintaining, and repairing increased. However, sometimes youths and children, who might spend a lifetime longer than adults in a city after the developments have been done, are not included in this "Residents". Conceming youth and children's participation, CFC (child friendly city) is one of the good practices for sustainable development. It was launched by UNICEF (United Nations Intemational Children's Emergency Fund) and UN-Habitat in the Habitat II in 1996. City governments, especially in European countries, started to view CFC as their key concept for preservation and/or sustainable development. CFC means not only being "Children" friendly but also "All people" friendly. Various effects have been reported since the Historic Cities/districts included CFC in their city planning as a common concept, especially in education, community re-development, and operation and maintenance by the community. It is expected that better city planning in preservation and sustainable development can be achieved by adding CFC concept. In this research, an ideal way of city planning involving resident participation and the possibility in the future are analyzed based on case studies. Then a strategy of sustainable development and community planning involving youth and children's participation is proposed.展开更多

The method was created due to Aristotle's understanding of philosophy as "the science about the first reasons and origins" of cognition--types of opposition which should be the beginning of the surrounding world's cognition at school. As they were discovered and set in a natural line of comparative notions, the main Plato's plan was fulfilled to reduce all particular laws to the general and to withdraw all particular laws from the general one (Plato 1993). As a result, we are talking about the building of stepwise transmission from one general notion to another more general notion that identifies the diversity of natural and social differences. As a result, it turned out to be possible to divide the whole thinking process into three related logical parts, each of which is determined by the advantageous usage of three types of cognitive means: (1) Reasonable thinking is the thinking with the help of classification notions on the basis of relations of "abstract identity" and "abstract difference", which determine the law of noncontradiction: either A, or not A; (2) Mental concrete-general metaphysical thinking is the thinking with the help of classification, quantitative, and comparative notions on the basis of the relation of "corresponding" and variety of mathematical and physical abstractions of different complexity being studied at school; and (3) Mental concrete-general dialectical thinking is the thinking with the help of classification and comparative notions on the basis of relation of "opposition" which allows to cognize natural and social processes. In addition to the generally accepted study of reasonable and mental thinking among schoolchildren with the help of concrete sciences, the new philosophical method is an effective means of advanced development of mental thinking among children, which makes for the holistic perception of the surrounding world by schoolchildren.展开更多

A total number of 35 female and male delinquent inmates of Children Correctional Centre in Cross River State and 35 female and male non-delinquents from a normal school aged from 12 years to 17 years took part in the study. The Child Rearing Questionnaire (CRQ) designed by the researcher was used for data collection. Two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Chi-square was used in testing the study hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The result of the data analysis showed that parental child-rearing style has a significant influence on the three aspects of dishonest behaviour, namely lying, stealing, and truancy, and parents' bonding with their children is also significant. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that parents should adopt more of authoritative child upbringing styles. Parents are expected to guide and modify the behaviour of their children to conform with the acceptable behaviours in society as well as participate in activities aimed at preventing crime or disorder being committed by their children.展开更多

Evidence from young children suggests that trajectories of number learning differ for children having different home numeracy experiences. Children involved in higher frequency of direct numeracy practice tend to have higher numeracy skills, but the result becomes more complicated when considering the types of home numeracy activities. The relationship between the home numeracy experience and preschool children's nurneracy development may shed light on how children acquire number skills and develop their mathematics competence.展开更多

Methods: All suspected cases of supracondylar humeral fracture reporting to emergency or outpatients department were analysed for various epidemiologic parameters including age, sex, laterality, time of presentation, associated injuries, neurovascular complications and classification over a period of four years. Results: We analysed a total of 263 patients and most of the fractures were seen in 5-8-year age group with a mean of 7.9 years. A total of 157 cases were males and non-dominant extremity was involved in 65% of fractures in our series. Fall on outstretched hand was the predominant cause of injury and fall from rooftop was the predominant mode. In all patients, 36.12% reported to our hospital 1 week after injury, 39.92% presented to hospital within 48 h after trauma and the remaining 23.95% presented 48 h to 1 week after trauma. None had a bilateral injury. Gartland type 3 fractures constituted 54.37% of patients, followed by type 1 (23.95%) and type 2 (21.67%). Conclusion: Almost one fourth of supracondylar humeral fractures in children can be prevented by installing railing of rooftops and stairs. It is necessary to educate people on hazards of treatment by traditional bonesetters. Moreover, the children with supracondylar humeral fractures should be screened for associated injuries.展开更多

To examine the finescale details of how this progress has occurred, we carried out KaplanMeier causespecific survival analysis using the Surveillance Epi demiology and End Results (SEER) dataset for patients with childhood hematologi cal malignancies Hodgkin's Lymphoma, NonHodgkin's Lymphoma, Lymphoblastic Leukemia and Myeloid Leukemia diagnosed in five eras: 1983-1987; 1988-1992; 1993-1997; 1998-2002 and 2003-2007. We generated KaplanMeier estimates of survival for each of the first 24 years after diagnosis. These figures agree with previously reported five and tenyear values and attest to the remarkable increase in survival that has occurred over the past three decades of medical progress. The trend towards progres sively increasing survival shows no sign of slowing, suggesting that we may expect further increases in survival in the years ahead. Most of the increase in survival for childhood hematological malignancies has occurred by reducing the risk of death in the first two years after diagnosis. This may be largely explained by the fact that this is the time period when patients are at highest risk of death.展开更多
