On the other han...Multimedia streaming served through peer-to-peer (P2P) networks is booming nowadays. However, the end-to-end streaming quality is generally unstable due to the variability of the state of serve-peers. On the other hand, proxy caching is a bandwidth-efficient scheme for streaming over the Internet, whereas it is a substantially expensive method needing dedicated powerful proxy servers. In this paper, we present a P2P cooperative streaming architecture combined with the advantages of both P2P networks and multimedia proxy caching techniques to improve the streaming quality of participating clients. In this frame- work, a client will simultaneously retrieve contents from the server and other peers that have viewed and cached the same title before. In the meantime, the client will also selectively cache the aggregated video content so as to serve still future clients. The associate protocol to facilitate the multi-path streaming and a distributed utility-based partial caching scheme are detailedly dis- cussed. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this proposed architecture through extensive simulation experiments on large, Inter- net-like topologies.展开更多

Characterizing the pe...The prevalence of smart phone and improvement of wireless net promote the usage of crowdsourced live streaming,where individual users act as live streaming sources to broadcast themselves online. Characterizing the performance and identifying its bottleneck in such systems can shed light on the system design and performance optimization. TCP performance of a commercial crowdsourced live streaming system is examined by analyzing packet-level traces collected at streaming servers. TCP stalls that heavily hurt the Qo E of user have been identified. In particular,the TCP stalls account for as much as 31. 6% of the flow completion time for upload flows and result in abandonment of upload on the corresponding channels. Stalls caused by timeout retransmissions are further dissected and timeout retransmission characteristics are revealed to be dependent on the video encoding methods. These findings provide new insights in crowdsourced live streaming systems and can guide designers to improve the TCP efficiency.展开更多

In this paper, we first provide an overview of recently derived quality assessment approaches for traditional visual signals (i.e., 2D images/videos), with highlights for new trends (such as machine learning approaches). On the other hand, with the ongoing development of devices and multimedia services, newly emerged visual signals (e.g., mobile/3D videos) are becoming more and more popular. Since FCC's opening for white space(WS) utilization,database-assisted dynamic spectrum access(DSA) has become the de facto solution for the realization of dynamic spectrum sharing(DSS),due to its simplicity and co...Since FCC's opening for white space(WS) utilization,database-assisted dynamic spectrum access(DSA) has become the de facto solution for the realization of dynamic spectrum sharing(DSS),due to its simplicity and compatibility with commercial off-the-shelf(COTS) devices.It is envisioned that such technology will strongly support the prosperous wireless multimedia networking(WMN) applications with satisfying QoS guarantees in the future.However,how to counter the time-frequency variant property when exploiting the WS spectrum for the provision of these services to secondary users(SUs) still remains a great challenge.In such context,a dynamic secondary access scheme for database-assisted spectrum sharing networks is proposed in this paper.In the beginning,the spectrum requirements of SUs for diverse services are modeled by considering the minimum required service data-rate and spectrum access duration.Afterwards,the spectrum demand evaluation and bidding policy are formulated based on the service classes of SUs.Furthermore,a doublephase(DP) spectrum allocation scheme,which consists of the initial resource allocation phase and resource allocation adjustment phase,is carefully designed for DSA.Finally,extensive simulations are conducted and the results demonstrate that our scheme can increase the spectrum trading revenue and adapt to varying service requirements.展开更多

A lot of simulations on the Petri net model of load balance system are conducted and the algorithm is compared with some traditional algorithms on balancing ability for heterogeneity, system throughput, re- quest response time and performance stability. In this article, we investigate secure mobile crowdsensing and present ways to use deep learning(DL) methods, such as stacked autoencoder, deep neural networks, convolutional neural networks, and deep reinforcement learning, to improve approaches to MCS security, including authentication, privacy protection, faked sensing countermeasures, intrusion detection and anti-jamming transmissions in MCS. We discuss the performance gain of these DLbased approaches compared to traditional security schemes and identify the challenges that must be addressed to implement these approaches in practical MCS systems.展开更多

However, one of the challenges in LEO satellites networks is that the services are suffered from high symbol error, limited storage space and limited available energy. To analyze the performance of the service in LEO satellites networks, a model, based on differential game, is proposed for satisfying the QoS requirements of multimedia applications. The controller of our model is the transmitting rate and the object is to maximize the payoff depending on the error symbol rate, the available energy, the bandwidth and the process ability so as to guarantee the QoS service. In order to solve our built model, we use the Bellman theorem to make formulas on the trance of the optimal transmitting rate. Furthermore, simulation results verify that the service can be maximized by using our derived transmitting rate trance.展开更多

Regarding the addressed scenario, when the propagation link between HAPS and train is blocked by obstacles, a three-dimensional (3-D) geometrical single cylinder spatial-temporal channel model is presented, in which closed form, mathematically tractable space-time correlation functions are obtained. It shows that the correlation functions determined by the 3-D model are of significant difference with those of the conventional 2-D model. Based on the analysis model, the paper derives a realized simulation model using sum-of-sinusoids approach, and applies method of equal areas (MEA) and modified method of equal areas (MMEA) to determine the model parameters. The fitting performance of the simulation model with the analysis one is evaluated by two means-square error (MSE) performance criteria. Finally, numerical simulation results verify the mathematical analysis conclusion, when N ≥21, simulation model has an excellent fitness with the analysis one.展开更多

The proposed AIP with the RSA-based proxy signature reduces handover delay time and communication message overhead when the mobile node moves between the heterogeneous networks. It defines new AlP Type Length Value (AlP TLV) in MIH frame format and uses the MIH Information Server (MIHIS) for issuing signature. The MIHIS can generate a signature on behalf of the AAA server and then the signature can he used by mobile node for a pre-authentication. For low handover delay, the proposed AIP performs pre-authentication processes with MIP protocol before layer 2 handover. Also, this paper analyses the performance of the handover and compares with the non-secure MIH.展开更多
Hair has historically reflected material consequences in the Black community; thus, research has begun to investigate how the power/privilege matrix that is propagated throughout the media permeates society and impact...Hair has historically reflected material consequences in the Black community; thus, research has begun to investigate how the power/privilege matrix that is propagated throughout the media permeates society and impacts African-Arnerican women's perceptions of hair. This research joins the discussion by exploring how Black hair magazine advertisements influence Black women's hair decisions and their percepfious of what constitutes beautiful Black hair. Findings reveal that the images African-American women consume from Black hair magazine advertisements do impact what they consider to be beautiful and, subsequently, influence their day-to-day styling and hair care mechanisms, lending further support to the idea that the media serve as powerful sources of knowledge. This study culminates by theorizing about the constitutive meanings and importance of Black hair as conveyed through magazine advertisements and considers how Black women use social comparisons to make everyday hair decisions to achieve what they identify as good hair.展开更多

Findings reveal that the images African-American women consume from Black hair magazine advertisements do impact what they consider to be beautiful and, subsequently, influence their day-to-day styling and hair care mechanisms, lending further support to the idea that the media serve as powerful sources of knowledge. This study culminates by theorizing about the constitutive meanings and importance of Black hair as conveyed through magazine advertisements and considers how Black women use social comparisons to make everyday hair decisions to achieve what they identify as good hair.
