“学术英语写作”课程是大连外国语大学英语学院内容语言融合课程之一。多年来课程团队遵循学生研究能力、学科知识和语言能力同步发展的原则,探索有效的教学模式,提升课程质量,本文概述了“学术英语写作”课程的基本情况,介绍了课程项目实践阶段的具体教学设计及教师对项目实施过程的管理方法。文章还分析了课程对学生研究能力、学科知识和语言能力的影响,以及对教师教学及科研能力的促进作用。本文对同类课程的建设有一定借鉴意义。

以培养国际化人才为目标的大学英语课程设置改革研究

当前,随着中国参与国际交往的增多与加深,高等教育对多层次、复合型国际化人才的需求日益迫切。而大学英语教学作为国际化人才培养的重要媒介,承担着重要的任务。该文首先探讨国际化人才应具备的基本素质;其次,探讨适合中国大学英语教学的跨文化交际能力理论框架;最后,提出"学术导向"英语课程设置方案。

Instruction of Nominalization by Applying Enabling of POA

It is noticeable that the academic papers written by Chinese English learners are lacking in academic features largely due to their poor ability to use nominalization.Therefore,the instruction of nominalization in an academic English writing course is badly needed.The author conducted onesemester-long instruction of nominalization to 90 non-English majors under the guidance of the production-oriented approach(POA).This research demonstrated how to apply POA,specifically,the enabling procedure to the teaching of nominalization.By triangulating the data of students’interviews,learning journals and written output,and the data of 4 teachers’class observations and interviews,this study found that the accurate application of the three criteria of effective enabling contributed to the improvement of the quantity and quality of nominalization in academic writing.

Who Are We,What Can We Do,and What Do We Think?Review on EAP Teacher Development

In this review of the literature regarding English for Academic Purposes(EAP)teacher development,we focus on empirical studies of pedagogical initiatives,research potential,and the cognitive status of practicing EAP instructors.A selection of 107 articles published in the Journal of English for Academic Purposes and English for Specific Purposes between the years 2002 and 2021 was retrieved for our categorized review.Our investigation affirms that research by and about EAP instructors remains an underdeveloped area in the field.We also attempt to point out future directions for teacher-led research with a conceptual understanding of EAP as a research-informed practice as well as practice-motivated research.

Reliability and Content Validity of a Comprehensive Discourse Completion Test of Interlanguage Pragmatics for Academic Situations

The present study aimed at investigating the reliability and content validity of a comprehensive test of Interlanguage Pragmatics （ILP） developed for the academic situations in the Iranian context. To do so, a meta-analysis of 50 articles which had reported on the tests of ILP was done and the criteria required for the selection of the speech acts of academic situations were developed. Then a Multiple-Choice Discourse Completion Test （MDCT） of interlanguage pragmatics was developed and validated through native checked situations and items based on meta-pragmatics procedures. Participants of the study were 50 M.A. students majoring in TEFL （Teaching English as a Foreign Language） studying at Iranian universities as well as 50 native speakers of English. The findings revealed that the test developed enjoyed high internal consistency and content validity. The present findings could contribute to the fields of second language testing and assessment in general and testing interlanguage pragmatics in particular.

A study of college art students＇ English learning motivation

In the process of English teaching for the college art students, teachers are always hunted by the following problem： No matter how hard they try, there is not much response from the students. What are the reasons？ The very important one is that students lack English learning motivation. Therefore, the present study examines the motivational beliefs of first-year art major undergraduates, aiming to increase college art students＇ interest in learning English, promote their active learning and improve their learning results.

Maggie Charles and Diane Pecorari＇s （2016） Introducing English for Academic Purposes is a very good book for specialized language, covering EAP＇s research in scope, planning and teaching, and evaluation and the issues are profound and clear. From the extension of language research to the formulation of policy, it can be described as novel and unique. It sums up the research contents and opinions in detail in the article.

A Study on Socratic Questioning Technique Based on Teachers＇ Narrative Research

Interaction is an important standard to detect teachers＇ teaching quality and effect in college English classroom teaching and is the most eagerly expected by all English teachers. During the process of classroom teaching, bad interaction or failure of interaction often makes teachers frustrated. One of the major reasons is that they ask improper questions in class. The purpose of this paper focuses on the skills of raising effective questions by teachers in order to produce good interaction from students. The method to achieve this purpose is by introducing Socratic Questioning method, which is showed by teachers＇ narrative research based on the author＇s own real classroom teaching with detailed explanation. The result of the experiment shows that Socratic Questioning method is not only a good example of effective questioning but also produces sufficient interaction between teacher-to-students and students-to-students. Generally speaking, this paper expects to have contribution to the effect of interaction so as to help more college English teachers have more excellent classroom teaching.

Applying MUSIC Model to Explore Students＇ Academic Motivation in an ESP Course

Students＇ academic motivation in a course is one of the most important factors to evaluate the success of the course. Measuring such a type of motivation has been proven to be complicated and open for debate. In this study, MUSIC Model of academic motivation developed by Jones （2009） was employed to conduct a survey on 214 third-year students of a police university after their Medical English course. Given five major components in the MUSIC Model derived from research and theory that are critical to student engagement in academic settings, including empowerment, usefulness, success, interest, and caring, the study reveals interesting results for considering the effectiveness of an ESP course. Some implications for instructors about how to engage students in a course have been also drawn out. It is believed to be practically helpful for those delivering ESP courses in non-English major universities in Vietnam.

On the teaching content of Language and Culture

To cultivate English majors＇ culture awareness and improve their English integrated competence, this paper clarifies the reasons and the choice of the content for the teaching of Language and Culture. The results of the teaching and the investigation conducted by the author show that the choice of the teaching materials and the topics for the class must be included in the teaching plan. Besides, this paper also probed into the most difficult topic, the easiest topic, the topics that need to be explained more and the topics that need to be explained less in class; and the similarity and differences of the teaching contents for students in different grades are also analyzed. In the end, proper sources of the comparison of English and Chinese languages and cultures are revealed in order to enlarge students＇ knowledge and improve their competence in using English.

Investigating the Difficulties in Speaking English for Academic Purposes --A Case Study of an Overseas Chinese Student

This paper investigates an overseas Chinese student to explore the difficulties and causes which overseas students have in Academic Speaking. It firstly reviews the related research literature and forms a conceptual framework for this case study. Secondly, a semi-structured interview methodology is adopted. Finally, it finds out the speaking difficulties for academic purposes are closed related with cross-cultural problems, learning strategies, and linguistic causes.

The Drawbacks and Related Strategies in Using of Multimedia in Practical Teaching

With the development of modem scientific technology, multimedia teaching as a new teaching method has got involved in the practical teaching. Making full use of this method will bring great benefits for English teaching. Besides the unique advantages and the present situations of multimedia applied in English teaching, it is more important for us to find out its drawbacks in practical teaching process, such as the ineffective application of multimedia by teachers. Then, the related strategies mast be put forward improving the teaching facilities of multimedia. This paper mainly discusses the related strategies in order to create a better teaching environment and facilitate the training of teachers. After studying this paper, we will have a good knowledge of the multimedia teaching. Consequently, we can apply the multimedia into the traditional teaching. Multimedia resources are also very useful for teachers to meet the requirements in our modem society. Meanwhile, it will promote the teaching reform and improve the level of education in our country.

Students＇ Attitude and Their Level of the ICT Use as Learning English Media

This study aims to reveal the students＇ attitude towards the use of Information and Communication Technology （ICT） as learning English Media, to describe the level of their ability to use ICT, and to portray their difficulties to apply Internet at universities. This study used quantitative and qualitative （mixed） method which consisted of two data collection techniques： questionnaire and interview. Respondents total 153 students who responded to the questionnaire and participants interviewed were four students from two private universities in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The findings show that students have positive attitude towards ICT use as media for learning English. The data analysis strengthens the results which indicate that Intemet as part oflCT functions helps students to elicit useful information. Of the 99.4% participants respond to the questionnaire which stated strongly agree or agree, its mean score is M = 4.69, and its standard deviation is SD = 0.50. The level of students＇ ability to apply ICT is good. Moreover, interview data indicates that students face two difficulties to apply ICT such as Intemet connection problems and ICT illiteracy. The former is regarding the Intemet facility given by the university. The latter deals with the students＇ incompetence in applying ICT because they have no Intemet use experience.

Research on the design of the multimedia intelligence teaching system based on the oral English curriculum

Applying the multimedia technology to the English teaching is an innovation for the English teaching methods and means, because the traditional teaching cannot solve the problems of listening and speaking locally, but the multimedia teaching can well solve this problem, and can also improve the students＇ English comprehensive abilities. It is a question of the teaching skills whether the teachers can adroitly, effectively and skillfully adopt the advanced teaching methods to implement the teaching.

The Teaching Reform in Oral English for Non-English Majors Based on FIF

Nowadays the oral English levels of non-English majors in colleges do not live up to the expectations from the all walks of life. Due to the rapid development of the communication technology, many cell phone apps about the English learning have appeared. So this paper tries to put forward some effective ways to reform the oral English teaching for non-English majors based on FIF--a cell phone app about oral English learning after analyzing the status quo of current oral English teaching and learning and the advantages of FIF.

Error Correction Strategy Use in the Second Language Classroom： A Study of Junior High School English Teachers in Ghana

Error correction, in recent times, is seen as one of the important teaching processes in L2 （second language） learning, because comprehensible inputs alone is insufficient for acquisition of language. However, few L2 teachers know much about error analysis and how to correct errors in the L2 classroom. Error correction is a very complicated and a thorny issue in L2 teaching and learning. L2 teachers, therefore, need to be armed with ways in which errors can be treated to ensure maximum effect yet with less harm to learners. Identifying learners＇ errors is very important in L2 learning, but how to correct them to give the desired effect is equally important and very challenging to L2 teachers. It is therefore crucial to initiate a study in Ghana to find out how errors are corrected in the Ghanaian English language classroom. This case study used complete observation and semi-structured interview as data collection strategies to identify error correction strategies/types English teachers use in the Ghanaian JHS （Junior High School） classroom and how error correction/treatment can be improved to facilitate English language teaching and learning. The findings of the study showed that explicit error correction technique was the most commonly used followed by recast, elicitation, metalinguistic clues, clarification request, repetition, and cues. It was also found that the causes of the disparity in the use of the various error correction types were inadequate teacher preparation, incompetence in English language, limited knowledge in error correction, caliber of students, and insufficient teaching time. This study identified that the situation can be improved through effective teacher training, in-service training, learner involvement, and effective planning.

Fusion of modem information and English teaching technology under constructivist theory background

The rapid development of multimedia network technology, multimedia teaching English provides a technology platform. The constructivist theory and modern information technology are two pivot multimedia teaching system. Only to unite the two together as one, it can form a reasonable and effective teaching system. Accordingly, this paper discusses the theory of multimedia teaching, design and multimedia network technology of a modem information technology education in English teaching and other related issues.

On address term translation from the cognitive perspective

This paper studies the address term translation from the cognitive perspective. Concerning the difficulties in rendering the cultural connotations in address terms, the author introduces experiential view and culture model as the guidelines to solve the problems. The results show the significance of bridging the cultural gap in address term translation.

Teaching Maritime English： A Linguistic Approach

The purpose of the paper is to outline the parameters of a LCC （linguistically centered concept） of developing ME （maritime English） teaching materials for non-native learners who are beginning their maritime academic career. The paper introduces initial notions on applying linguistic criteria as the basic ones in the process of creating ME textbooks. Through the historical development and under the influence of extra linguistic factors （globalization of the shipping industry, in particular）, ME has accumulated and stored various resources being in current use： vocabulary, grammar and phonology, operational and semiotic systems, specific means of communication, functional models, patterns of narration and description, etc.. The proper linguistic analysis makes a secure foundation for methodology which can guarantee a better quality of ME course books for the 1st and 2nd year maritime students all over the world.
