Optimal gateway deployment under different queuing mechanisms in smart grid

By optimizing the network topology, this paper proposes a newmethod of queuing theory clustering algorithm based on dynamic programming in a home energy management system（ HEMS）. First, the total cost of the HEMS system is divided into two parts, the gateway installation cost and the data transmission cost. Secondly, through comparing two kinds of different queuing theories, the cost problem of the HEMS is converted into the problem of gateway deployment. Finally, a machine-to-machine（ M2M） gateway configuration scheme is designed to minimize the cost of the system. Simulation results showthat the cost of the HEMS system mainly comes from the installation cost of the gateways when the gateway buffer space is large enough. If the gateway buffer space is limited, the proposed queue algorithm can effectively achieve optimal gateway setting while maintaining the minimal cost of the HEMS at desired levels through marginal analyses and the properties of cost minimization.

Home control system based on ZigBee wireless sensor networks

A new scheme of the home control system based on ZigBee wireless sensor networks is presented. The design and development of the software and hardware of the proposed system are given. In addition to the basic data acquisition and processing functions, the gateway supports the Bluetooth-based local interface and the general packet radio service （GPRS）-based remote interface. Users on the client service side can use a pocket PC or notebook PC to achieve real-time data acquisition and control instruction implementation, or remotely control the home control system through a mobile phone by sending a short message. The Labview graphical development environment is adopted to create PDA applications running on pocket PCs and monitoring platform established on notebook PCs. Except for the gateway, other nodes in the system work in sleep mode most of the time on the system, and thus it improves the lifetime of the whole system efficiently.

A two-tier location management mechanism for IMS

This paper proposed a two-tier location management mechanism （TTLM） by improving the current registration mechanism （CR） in IP Multimedia Subsystem （IMS）. The TTLM includes the visited network registration and the home network registration, in which the visited network registration is responsible for re-registration in IMS. When subscriber roams, the location information of home network will be updated by the visited network based on the change of user equipment （UE）＇ s IP address. Thereibre the TTLM can reduce the times of IMS registration signaling. Using the proposed analytical model, the performance of the CR and the proposed TTLM were investigated. After the performance analysis of CR and TTLM by using proposed analytical model, the cost of CR in IMS could significantly be reduced theoretically and also was proven by simulation experiments.

On Spaces with a Locally Countable sn-network

In this paper,spaces with a locally countable sn-network are discussed.It is shown that a space with a locally countable sn-network iff it is an snf-countable space with a locally countable k-network.As its application,almost-open and closed mappings（or finite-to-one and closed mapping） preserve locally countable sn-networks,and a perfect preimage theorem on spaces with a locally countable sn-network is established.

Optical wireless network in home area based on white LED lights

A new optical wireless network based on white LED lights in home area is proposed. It is a duplex channel communication system utilizing signal emitters of white LED lights in the downlink and infrared devices in the uplink. Strategies for the system construction are given. Performance for users＇ mobile access of different kinds of optical concentrators is investigated. Indoor channel band-width is analyzed considering white LED light distribution, wall reflection, and receivers field of view （FOV）. Various modulation methods are discussed. A demo point-to-point system for surfing the net is constructed using a new line code of 4B6B which is developed to stabilize the optical output, and a peak data rate of 1 Mbps is achieved. This system is built into the lighting infrastructure, therefore decreasing the cost and offering a solution for wireless access in places which are sensitive to radio frequency like hospitals.

Families and Companion Animals in a Contemporary World： A Study of Bodies, Minds, and Emotions in Brazilian Cyberspace

The objective of this paper is to present the result of a research of images and messages addressed to pet owners, posted in news and advertising websites in Brazilian cyberspace in the period between 2005 and 2012. There are a wide variety of pet products and services, similar to those available to the human being and note that pet care industry address the posts to pet owners and the messages intend to motivate the emotions and feelings for the animals, in a sentimental anthropomorphism process. The marketing messages are similar to those of products shaped to induce a person to buy luxury products. Market social interaction is driven by both the human-animal bond and the pet care market campaigns advertisement. In many situations, people interact with pet as a person or a member of the family, as a unique and special living being. The authors conclude that in families which people and animal interacts, new meanings emerge from this contact.

Evaluation on the Thermal Stability and Hazards Behaviors of ADVN Using Green Thermal Analysis Approach

ADVN （2,2＇-Azobis （2,4-dimethyl） valeronitrile）, a free radical initiator, is widely applied for the polymerization reaction of polymers in the chemical industries. When ADVN releases free radical during the decomposition process, it can accompany abundant heat and huge pressure to increase the possibility of thermal runaway and hazard, causing unacceptable thermal explosion or fire accidents. To develop an inherently safer process for ADVN, the thermal stability parameters of ADVN were obtained to investigate thermal decomposition characteristics using a DSC （differential scanning calorimetry） and TG （thermogravimetry）. We used various kinetic models to completely depict the kinetic behavior and determine the thermal safety parameters for ADVN. The green thermal analysis approach could be used to substitute for complicated procedures and large-scale experiments of traditional thermal analysis methods, avoiding environmental pollution and energy depletion.

A reliable opportunistic routing for smart grid with in-home power line communication networks

The topology of in-home power line communication(PLC) networks varies frequently, which makes traditional routing algorithms failure. To solve this problem, an end-to-end transmission time for remaining path(TTRP) metric-based opportunistic routing(TTRPOR) is proposed. Since a local broadcasting scheme is adopted, the algorithm can find the optimal path for forwarding packets in a dynamic PLC network. The closed-form of the outage probability for a PLC channel is derived to estimate the TTRP. It is proved that the average throughput can achieve maximum as the metric TTRP is utilized to sort candidate forwarding nodes.Numerical results show that the end-to-end throughput of networks with TTRPOR, outperforms that of the network adopting DSR and EXOR, especially for the case of varying-topology in-home PLC networks.

Progress in the micro-perspective studies of economic geography in China since 1980s

Micro-perspective studies on economic geography in China can be classified into geography of the enterprise, geography of the rural household, and small-scale studies on economic activities. Literature on geography of the enterprise includes spatial expansion of the enterprise, industrial location, firm's networks, industrial relocation, industrial clusters, and the relationship between industrial organizations and the environment. Studies on geography of the rural household(GRH) include the theoretical framework of GRH, the locations of rural economic activities, and the interrelation between rural households and geographical environment. Small-scale studies focus on human-land interaction from a land plot perspective, relations between specialized villages and the environment, and regional sustainable development research at site-specific scale. Micro-perspective studies on economic geography attempt to search for the basic unit of economic-geographical landscape, exploring the geographical process and the formation mechanism of geographical phenomena. The exploration of these three perspectives anticipates new approaches to economic-geographical studies with China's special background.

In-home Power Line Communication Media Access Control Protocol Based on Collision Resolution

Most existing media access control(MAC) protocols in power line communication(PLC) networks just discard the colliding data packets when collision occurs.The collision deteriorates throughput and delay performance of system under high traffic conditions.This article presents a novel media access scheme with fast collision resolution for in-home power line networks.It works by first recognizing the colliding stations through detecting the inserted unique ID sequence ahead of data packets,then the source nodes retransmitting their packets immediately after the collision slot.The proposed protocol maintains the benefits of ALOHA systems.It needs no scheduling overhead and is suitable for bursty sources,such as multimedia data packets.Computer simulations have demonstrated that this approach can achieve high throughput due to its ability of resolving collisions.
