[Method] This experiment was designed with 12 treatments including clear water as the CK, in randomized block arrangement, with 4 replications, and each plot had an area of 30 m2. The pesticides were sprayed in the high occurrence period of larvae of tea lesser leafhopper when tea shoots grew vigorously. [Result] In the 11 pesti- cides, 100 g/L bifenthrin EC , 70% imidacloprid WDG and 150 g/L indoxacarb EC were the best pesticides with efficacies above 90%; and in the bio-pesticides, 0.5% azadirachtin SC showed an efficacy over 87.97%. [Conclusions] Among the tested pesticides, 100 g/L bifenthrin EC , 70% imidacloprid WDG and 150 g/L indoxacarb EC could effectively control tea lesser leafhopper during the outbreak of tea lesser leafhopper, and when the occurrence degree of tea lesser leafhopper is below the medium level, environment-friendly 0.5% azadirachtin SC, 0.5% veratrine SC, 0.3% matrine SC and 4.0×10^10 spores/g Beauveria bassiana OD could be selected.展开更多

The results were briefly summarized as follows: (1) The wheat leaves possessed normally developed chloroplasts with intact grana and stroma thylakoid membranes; The grana intertwined with stroma thylakoid membranes and increased slightly in stacking degree and the width of granum, in spite of more accumulated starch grains within the chloroplasts than those in control; (2) The particle density in the stacked region of the endoplasmic fracture face (EFs) and protoplasmic fracture face (PFs) and in the unstacked region the endoplasmic fracture face (EFu) and the protoplasmic fracture face (PFu) was significantly higher than that of control. Furthermore, in some cases many more particles on EFs faces of thylakoid membranes appeared as a paracrystalline particle array; (3) The variations in the structure of chloroplasts were consistent with the absorption spectra and the low temperature (77 K) fluorescence emission spectra of the chloroplasts developed under the doubled_CO 2 concentration. Results indicate that the capability of light energy absorption of chloroplasts and regulative capability of excitation energy distribution between PSⅡ and PSⅠ were raised by doubled_CO 2 concentration. This is very favorable for final productivity of wheat.展开更多

The results showed that heat acclimation during grain-filling stage increased thermotolerance of wheat with significant differences among different green organs. During heat stress, the decreases of the efficiency of primary light energy conversion (F-v/F-m) of PS II and pigment (chlorophyll and carotenoid) content were much slower in peduncle, flag leaf sheath and glume than in nag leaf blade, lemma and ann; and the percentage of decrease in net photosynthetic rate (P-n) of ear was lower than that of the nag leaf blade. The measured photosynthetic parameters (F-v/F-m, P-n and pigment content) of 'JD 8', a relatively heat tolerant variety, declined more slowly than those of the other three varieties during the whole heat stress period.展开更多

Here we report the identification and analysis of a T-DNA insertion mutant of PDS3 gene. Functional complementation confirmed that both the albino and dwarfphenotypes ofthepds3 mutant resulted from functional disruption of the PDS3 gene. Chloroplast development was arrested at the proplastid stage in thepds3 mutant. Further analysis showed that high level ofphytoene was accumulated in the pds3 mutant. Addition of exogenous GA3 could partially rescue the dwarf phenotype, suggesting that the dwarf phenotype ofthepds3 mutant might be due to GA deficiency. Microarray and RT-PCR analysis showed that disrupting PDS3 gene resulted in gene expression changes involved in at least 20 metabolic pathways, including the inhibition of many genes in carotenoid, chlorophyll, and GA biosynthesis pathways. Our data suggest that the accumulated phytoene in the pds3 mutant might play an important role in certain negative feedbacks to affect gene expression of diverse cellular pathways.展开更多

There are several injurious insect pests reported from various safflower growing areas in Iran, causing severe and economical losses on various parts of safflower plants. They are safflower Budfly and capsulfly (Acanthiophilus helianthi), aphid (Uroleucon carthami), green leafhopper (Empoasca decipiens), ground bug (Oxycarneus pallens), grampod borer and capsule borer or bordered straw (Heliothis (and or Heliocaverpa) peltigera), red spider mite and two spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urtica), beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua), scarab beetle (Tropinota (and or Epicometis) hirta), Egyptian cotton leaf (Spodoptera littoralis), cotton boll worm (Heliothi absouleta) and so on. The other reported safflower insect pests from other countries are wireworms (Limonius spp.), lygus bugs (Lygus hesperus), flower thrips (Eastern or Western) or onion thrips (Thrips tabaci), and seed corn maggots (Delia platura), sunflower moths (Helianthus annuus) and Caterpillar (Perigaea capensis) are the serious pests of this crop. The other reports showed that some stored-product insects are capable of establishing infestations in safflower seeds and seed meal under suitable conditions. Only Lasiaderma serricorne, Stegobium penliceum, and the four species of Trogodema were to be as the infectious pests. Safflower is also attractive to several beneficial insects, including lady beetles and lacewings that may provide insect control in surrounding fields.展开更多

Given the increase in the prevalence of isolated forest patches in the part of this hotspot, evaluation is necessary on how size of the remnant forest patches and on-going disturbances affects structure and diversity of remaining habitats including the population of some globally threatened tree species. Quantitative vegetation inventory by 500 m long and lO m wide (0.5 ha) line transects were randomly set in nine fragmented tropical semi-evergreen forest patches in Tripura, Northeast India. The studied forests patches grouped into small, medium and large based on their respected sizes. Spatial variability was analysed in woody species diversity and structure along the patch size gradients and their response to both patch size and anthropogenic disturbances. Out of 167 species, 13 identified as red-listed species by IUCN under the present inventory. Most of the diversity and structural parameters showed statistically significant positive response with the forest patch size, except for stand dominance, disturbance, sapling density and number of aggregated distribution pattern decreased when patch size increased. In addition, most of the diversity and structural attributes showed negative response with disturbances. Present baseline data would serve as an effective tool for management and protection of this important forest type. Future habitat restoration programme and strategies for relocation of additional population and re-introduction of those globally threatened trees are recommended.展开更多

Among treatments, cauliflower fertilized with chicken manure had the highest content of chlorophyll a and b (10.08 and 9.37 μm·g^-1), while, pak choi had the lowest values (2.00 and 2.44 μm·g^-1) in non-fertilized plants. These differences in chlorophyll a and b content may have a great impact on photosynthetic rate and activity. Total carotenoids and total xanthophylls (lutein, zeaxanthin, antheraxanthin and violaxanthin) were the highest in cauliflower while the lowest was in pakchoi, β-carotene, on the other hand, was the highest percentage of total carotenoids (65.7%) in pak choi while Kohlrabi had the lowest percent (57.4%). This high percentage offl-carotene of total carotenoids may compensate for lower content of chlorophylls and assist for efficient light harvesting process. Lutein showed to be the major components of xanthophyll pigments brassica vegetables and ranged from 0.462μm·g^-1 in cabbage to 0.626μm·g^-1 in kohlrabi but not differed significantly which may refer to genetically controlled. However, lutein, antheraxanthin and zeaxanthin content were increased significantly by the application of chicken manure regardless ofbrassica vegetable type. Violaxanthin was only detected in pak choi and not affected by fertilizer source. It can be concluding from the increasing contents of total xanthophylls pigments that may increase photosynthetic efficiency through non-photochemical quenching process.展开更多

In the present study, five strains displaying fast and efficient reproduction were chosen among 11 C. vulgaris strains isolated from different fresh water ponds and their cell numbers and the amount of chlorophyll a, protein, lipid, cellulose and carbohydrate were examined. The main goal of the study is to investigate increasing the biochemical contents especially the protein content of C. vulgaris strains in different mediums. In the present study, cell densities were determined through cell count for five days. In parallel with cell count, their chlorophyll a content was determined. The highest cell density was observed with C. vulgaris TOH (Tourism and Hotel Management Pond) strain as 5.5 × 104 h/mL, and the chlorophyll a content as 4.3 × 102 mg/m3. The highest intracellular protein amount was determined with C. vulgaris GUH (Gazi University Rectorship Pond) (0.061 g/100 mL) and the highest lipid amount was attained with C. vulgaris UIK (Ulus Construction Well) strain as 0.019 g/100 mL. The process of increasing the intracellular protein amount in C. vulgaris GUH strain was carried out in Prat, Yagojinski and Chlorella medium. The results indicated that Chlorella medium increased the intracellular protein amount.展开更多
