The first design of the church was drawn up by a local master builder in 1889 but was given such a poor evaluation by a firm of architects in Berlin that a new project had to be commissioned. The technical opinion on the design is analysed in the paper: both projects are discussed and some of the drawings from the projects are presented. The text of the expert evaluation and the draft of the church have never been published yet.展开更多

The remarkable revolutions in interactivity and multimedia materials together with countless emerging technologies have also enabled the conception of digital storytelling. However, it has not been widely used in many developing countries such as Vietnam. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to conduct an investigation into the history of digital storytelling, the necessary facilities and how it is being used educationally in the classroom so that teachers in developing countries can widely apply digital storytelling in teaching. This paper also raises students' awareness towards using technology in their study, which will make an important breakthrough in teaching and learning English in Vietnam.展开更多

This collaboration has more and more developed a particular landscape of projects which share the same operative principles and modes of operation. The city at large has been the context where these projects have been implemented and developed with the will of bringing these types of experimentation to the people and to the public and social scale. Cities are continuously produced through entropic processes that mediate between complexity and immediacy. Information technology operates as a linkage able to set up new rules for communication between man and matter. In this framework, by looking at spatial interventions in the urban space, the aim of the paper is to dissect the modes in which spatial practitioners operate in the digital city through "Urban Machines" and how information technology becomes a tool for place-making. The paper looks at integrated systems or machines that have spatial, social, and environmental implication in how we experience the city. Machines imply "something that has been constructed" and "function with a specific purpose" while being composed by parts that respond to a "functioning whole". These interventions start from sharing the same principle: How do we generate through technologically mediated experiences opportunities for new types of production of(social)space?; How such systems shape our urban experience and deploy forms of participation in civic life?.展开更多

In anticipation of the challenges occasioned due to a shift from the modified cash basis to the accrual basis of accounting, the Malaysian State's determination to move from a developing nation to a developed nation, and to be ranked among the first 10 in 2020, this paper presents the need for forensic accountant and auditor capability (i.e., mindset and skills) on forensic accountant and auditor competence (i.e., task performance fraud risk assessment (TPFRA)) in the Malaysian public sector. It also draws the attention of the users of public sector accountants and auditors to the understanding of fraud mechanisms and how to deal with fraudsters. The population of this study comprised the accountants and auditors in the office of the Accountant General and Auditor General of Malaysia. The objective of this paper is to investigate the competence requirements of accountants and auditors in the effective and efficient utilization of capability requirements, which have the potentials to usher in the best global practices in fighting fraud in the Malaysian public sector.展开更多

Indeed, stock characters like the evil genius or super villain boast family trees that readers can trace not only through time--in this case, starting in the late 19th century--but also across borders. This study traces the genealogical roots of the modern super villain by examining, in turn, Ian Fleming's characters Ernst Blofeld and Dr. Julius No, Sax Rohmer's Dr. Fu Manchu, and Guy Boothby's Dr. Antonio Nikola. In "Orientalism", the author contends that the modern super villain is the embodiment of these writers' orientalist fantasies and fears. Finally, in "Mad Science", the argument is made that the evil geniuses of Fleming, Rohmer, and Boothby may very well be the offspring of an earlier stock character, the mad scientist, who trades monomania for megalomania.展开更多

Structural studies of LMX factors have important theoretical and practical value in college teachers. In this paper, the "impact factor structure of university teachers LMX Questionnaire" for four universities 808 subjects was investigated. By exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, it found that the structure of university teachers LMX factors includes five dimensions: values, attitudes up, personality characteristics, switching behavior, objective situations. The questionnaire has good reliability and validity.展开更多

Through billions of years of evolution, nature has learned what is optimal. The optimized biological solution provides some inspiration for scientists and engineers. In the past decade, tinder the multi-disciplinary collaboration, bio-inspired special wetting surfaces have attracted much attention for both fundamental research and practical applications. In this review, we focus on recent research progress in bio-inspired special wetting surfaces via self-assembly, such as low adhesive superhydrophobic surfaces, high adhesive superhydrophobic surfaces, superamphiphobic surfaces, and stimuli-responsive surfaces. The challenges and perspectives of this research field in the future are also briefly addressed.展开更多

Although this epistemology can partially explain the re-creation of the Chinese legal system during the earlier period of reform and opening up, it fails to provide a comprehensive picture of the present complex situation. Taking as an example the changes in the Chinese legal profession during reform and opening up, this study employs quantitative data and empirical methods to explore the multiple dynamic impacts of the state, the market and society on the Chinese legal system. The study also proposes a theoretical framework of "structural constraints" on legal change. Since reform and opening up, the Chinese legal system has undergone a transition from state dominance to multi-agent interactions between the state, the market, society, and the legal system itself.展开更多
