TiO2/SiO2 aerogels with different molar ratio of SiO2/TiO2 were prepared via non-supercritical method using tetrabutyl titanate and silica sols as raw materials. The samples were characterized by TEM, SEM, BET, IR, XR... TiO2/SiO2 aerogels with different molar ratio of SiO2/TiO2 were prepared via non-supercritical method using tetrabutyl titanate and silica sols as raw materials. The samples were characterized by TEM, SEM, BET, IR, XRD and so on. The results indicate that the BET surface area of TiO2/SiO2 aerogels calcined at 550℃ which consisted of anatase structure of TiO2 with narrow distribution pores of 5-25 nm is as high as 357.89 m2·g-1. For the photocatalytic degradation of pyridine, the catalytic activities of TiO2/SiO2 aerogels are much higher than that of TiO2 powder. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2/SiO2 aerogels calcined at 800℃ is the optimum. The higher the content of SiO2, the higher the photocatalytic activity of TiO2/SiO2 aerogels. The cost for preparation of the aerogels is greatly reduced by using non-supercritical drying method, and the aerogels are hopefully applied in the treatment of industrial waste water such as coking effluent treatment. 展开更多

The compound dry cleaning principle is briefly described.A beneficiation test on South African coal was conducted using a model compound dry cleaning apparatus.Excellent results were obtained and the optimum operating parameters were determined.They are:an amplitude of 3.0 mm,a motor frequency of 47.5 Hz,an air volume of 50%,a transverse angle of 7°,and a longitudinal angle of-2°.These conditions yield a clean coal containing 11%ash and a coal production of 75%.The organic efficiency,η,is 95.86%.These results show that the South African coal can be separated effectively by compound dry cleaning,which will popularize the compound dry cleaning method. 展开更多

Due to the shared nature of the wireless medium, the performance of wireless sensor network is often limited by both internal interference and external interference. The internal interference is that simultaneous traffic activity by neighboring nodes in the same network, while the external interference is from wireless transmissions by other types of devices, such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth nodes. In this paper, we present two channel hopping algorithms for multichannel, single-radio wireless sensor networks. The first algorithm achieves collision-free transmission environment while do not introduce extra control overhead. The second algorithm, in addition to reducing internal interference effects, reduces the external interference effects from Wi-Fi devices. Simulation results show that both of them significantly improve performance in wireless sensor network. 展开更多

In the system with superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID) in cavity, a scheme for constructing two-qubit quantum phase gate via a conventional geometric phase-shift is proposed by using a quantized cavity field and classical microwave pulses. In this scheme, the gate operation is realized in the subspace spanned by the two lower flux states of the SQUID system mud the population operator of the excited state has no effect on it. Thus the effect of decoherence caused from the levels of the SQUID system is possible to minimize. Under cavity decay, our strictly numerical simulation shows that it is also possible to realize the unconventional geometric phase gate. The experimental feasibility is discussed in detail. 展开更多

Due to the special and narrow underground field of the coal mine, the electromagnetic interference can cause a series of misstatements and false positives on the monitoring system, which will severely hamper the safe production of coal industry. In this paper, first, the frequency characteristics of the interference source on the power line are extracted when equipment runs normally. Then the finite difference time domain method is introduced to analyze the effects of the electromagnetic interference parameters on the security monitoring signal line. And the interference voltage of the two terminal sides on the single line is taken as evaluating indexes. Finally, the electromagnetic interference parameters are optimized by orthogonal experimental design based on the MATLAB simulation on the normal operation of equipment. 展开更多

The analytical method permits one to assess the error occurrence probability in transmitting the data packets considering the dependence on the signal pulses energies-to-pulse disturbances energies ratio and the disturbances repetition frequency-to-data transmission rate ratio and also the dependence on the bits quantity in the packet. The numerical method allows one to assess the specific effect of the repetitive pulse disturbance influence on the digital devices functioning (the number of errors in transmitted data packets, transmission rate, etc.) depending on such factors as the repetition frequency, the disturbance waveform and duration, the mode of data coding, etc.. 展开更多

To investigate the feasibility of implanting the biocomposite of calcium phosphate cement(CPC)/polylactic acid-polyglycolic acid(PLGA) into animals for bone defects repairing,the biocomposite of CPC/PLGA was prepared and its setting time,compressive strength,elastic modulus,pH values,phase composition of the samples,degradability and biocompatibility in vitro were tested.The above-mentioned composite implanted with bone marrow stromal cells was used to repair defects of the radius in rabbits.Osteogenesis was histomorphologically observed by using an electron-microscope.The results show that compared with the CPC,the physical and chemical properties of CPC/PLGA composite have some differences in which CPC/PLGA composite has better biological properties.The CPC/PLGA composite combined with seed cells is superior to the control in terms of the amount of new bones formed after CPC/PLGA composite is implanted into the rabbits,as well as the speed of repairing bone defects.The results suggest that the constructed CPC/PLGA composite basically meets the requirements of tissue engineering scaffold materials and that the CPC/PLGA composite implanted with bone marrow stromal cells may be a new artificial bone material for repairing bone defects because it can promote the growth of bone tissues. 展开更多

A method is presented for generating highly squeezed states of a cavity field via the atom-cavity field interaction of the Raman type. In the scheme a sequence of three-level -type atoms interacts with a cavity field, displaced by a classical source, in a Raman manner. Then the atomic states are measured. By this way the cavity field may collapse onto a superposition of several coherent states, which exhibits strong squeezing. The scheme can also be used to prepare superpositions of many two-mode coherent states for two cavity fields. The coherent states in each mode are on a straight line. This is the first way for preparing multi-component entangled coherent states of this type in cavity QED. 展开更多

The industrialized preparation parameters were optimized as follows: reaction temperature 85-95 ℃, oxygen flow rate 8-12 L/min, reaction time 210 min, the ratio of starch to water 1:5, 3.5 wt% of NaOH and 0.1 wt% of catalyst. The experimental results show that the concentration of hydrolysate-oxidaton product is 16-18 wt%. The powdered products were gained through dehydrated and powdered process using quadruple-effect evaporator, spray drying tower and guide shell mixer. The composting test indicates that the degradability of the oxidized corn starch can reach 76.4%. The complexation capacity of calcium ions reaches 108.5 mg per gram oxidized starch, and the detergency ratio (P) reaches 1.30 as builder. 展开更多

Madurese s;picy dried beef is an indegenious sun dried meat incorporating cooking salt, cane sugar and spices and have not been explored scientifically. The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of different concentrations of cooking salt and cane sugar on physico-chemical and organoleptic quality of Madurese spicy dried beef. Randomized Block Design with two factors namely concentration of cooking salt (1%, 2% and 3% w/w) and cane sugar (3%, 6% and 9% w/w), and three replications were used in this study. The increasing amount of either cooking salt and cane sugar incorporated during preparation affected the samples salt, total sugar and moisture contents as well as it's aw value and texture of end products. From the organoleptic properties it was found that these treatments only affected the taste of spicy dried beef. Best sample was obtained from incorporating 3% cooking salt and 6% cane sugar with moisture content: 7.11%, aw: 0.354, salt content: 8.17%, total sugar content: 16.91%, texture: 0.0107 kiloNewton and panelists scores tbr texture 5.03; taste 4.53 and colour 5.31. Amino acids profile analysis of best sample showed that the most dominant amino acid was Glutamic acid (7.34%) followed by Aspartic acid (4.15%), Lysine (3.30%) and Leucine (3.22%). It can be concluded that to get the best spicy dried beef, the amount of 3% cooking salt and 6% cane sugar should be incorporated during preparation. 展开更多

Attempts had been made to synthesize Al2O3-2SiO2 nanopowders by sol-gel method with tetraethoxysilane(TEOS) and aluminum nitrate(ANN) as the starting materials.DTS,TEM,SEM and BET were employed to study the effects of process parameters on the size,specific surface area and structure(morphology) of powders.The alkali-activation reactivity of the powders was tested for manufacturing geopolymers and their hydrothermal reactions were performed for fabricating zeolites.The results show that the optimum process parameters and drying method for preparing Al2O3-2SiO2 nanopowders are as follows:the molar ratio of water and ethanol to TEOS are 0:1 and 12:1 respectively at synthetic temperature of 50 ℃ and the drying method is azeotropic distillation with microwave drying.The average particle diameters of the powders were about 70 nm and the largest BET specific surface area was up to 669 m^2·g^-1.The compressive strength of the geopolymer and the calcium exchange capacity(by CaCO3) of NaA zeolite prepared with the powders reached to 29 MPa and 366 m^2·g^-1 respectively. 展开更多

To test the feasibility of radiant energy vacuum (REV) dehydration, a technology that couples microwave cooking with vacuum pressure, on beef jerky preparation, the physical and microbial properties of the final jerky product was compared to conventional preparation methods. Physical characteristics assessed using puncture and shear tests of samples prepared using REV dehydration compared to the traditional method were not statistically different (P 〈 0.05). Moisture content and water activity levels were also very similar between the two products, To test microbiological quality, samples were homogenized in a stomacher and a variety of 3 M Petrifilms were used to evaluate the microbial load. Raw beef harboured low numbers of microbes, but the post-marination pasteurization/smoking step used in both treatments eliminated all culturable microorganisms tested for. To further investigate the ability of REV dehydration to kill microbes, samples were spiked with Listeria innocua after the pasteurization/smoking step but prior to REV dehydration. Samples were taken at different time intervals for microbial enumeration, and a decimal reduction time of 1 min was calculated, with 99.99% of 1.98 × 10^7 CFU g^-1 Listeria being killed in five min. Improved drying times were observed for jerky samples prepared using the REV method offering potential energy savings during jerky preparation. 展开更多

We describe a scheme for the generation of macroscopic quantum-interference states for a collection of trapped ions by a single geometric phase operation. In the scheme the vibrational mode is displaced along a circle with the radius proportional to the number of ions in a certain ground electronic state. For a given interaction time, the vibrational mode returns to the original state, and the ionic system acquires a geometric phase proportional to the area of the circle, evolving from a coherent state to a superposition of two coherent states. The ions undergo no electronic transitions during the operation. Taking advantage of the inherent fault-tolerant feature of the geometric operation, our scheme is robust against decoherence. 展开更多

Reexamine Cookie Jar and Big Bath Accounting Using the Backing-Out Method

Prior research documents income-decreasing earnings management in the situation when true earnings exceed the targets by a substantial amount and in the situation when true earnings fall far below the targets and accounting reserves are not sufficient to reach the targets. These two situations are well-known as cookie jar and big bath earnings management. True earnings are defined as pre-managed earnings (PMEs) and are measured as reported earnings minus adjusted discretionary accruals (DAs). However, the use of PMEs can induce a spurious association between earnings management and PMEs above or below the benchmarks, which are known as the backing-out problem (Lim & Lustgarten, 2002). This study reexamines the cookie jar and big bath type of earnings management and addresses in particular the issue of backing-out problem. By using an Australian sample of 3,326 observations covering all listed firms in the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) for a period from 1999 to 2006, this study suggests that the finding of cookie jar accounting is not simply a consequence of the backing-out problem. The results show that an income-decreasing earnings management occurs when PMEs are well above the targets. This is consistent with the first argument of cookie jar accounting--Finns reduce current earnings in order to save some income for the future. However, the results do not support the big bath accounting theory. 展开更多

Seismic Performance of Dry-Friction Devices in Shear-Frame Buildings

In recent years the application of friction-based passive energy dissipation devices have been proven very effective in reducing structural response to earthquake excitations and also implemented for a large number of buildings. Their design heavily relies on numerical simulations to model the influence of the energy dissipation devices. The modeling of friction forces must be accurate for realistic simulation of the influence of these devices. In state-of-the-practice, the hysteretic behavior of friction devices has been typically modeled with Coulomb friction having a constant coefficient of friction. However, the basic laws for typical sliding materials and experimental investigations show non-linear relationship between friction and sliding velocity, which includes stiction and Stribeck effect. The influence of stiction and Stribeck effect may be significant and can not be ignored in simulating the dynamic responses of structures with friction-based energy dissipation devices. In this paper the optimal performance of dry friction device in shear-frame buildings when subjected to earthquake ground motions has been investigated. The focus of this paper is on the optimal minimization of response of the shear-frame building. Since buildings with friction devices behave in a highly nonlinear manner, nonlinear response-history analysis considering comprehensive sliding friction models has been carried out. The performance has also been evaluated using the various response measures: the maximum absolute acceleration, the maximum base shear, and the maximum inter-story drift. Different performance indices have been used to quantify the influence of the device properties. 展开更多

This paper describes a study of point contact elastohydrodynamic(EHD)lubrication behavior at high speeds(up to 20 m s1).Central film thicknesses were measured by optical interferometry device.The influence of slide-roll ratio and operating temperature on the central film thickness was determined.The influence of thermal effects on the reduction of film thickness was discussed via the analysis of numerical simulation method considering thermal effects.Subsequently,the experimental data was used to amend a set of unified parameters for the thermal corrections for different types of oil at high speeds. 展开更多
