AIM:To evaluate the impact of feeding colicky infants with an adapted formula on the hydrogen breath test and clinical symptoms.METHODS:Hydrogen expiration was measured by SC MicroLyzer gas chromatography at inclusion...AIM:To evaluate the impact of feeding colicky infants with an adapted formula on the hydrogen breath test and clinical symptoms.METHODS:Hydrogen expiration was measured by SC MicroLyzer gas chromatography at inclusion and 15 d after treatment with an adapted low-lactose formula in 20 colicky infants.RESULTS:All babies were symptomatic:85% with excess gas,75% with abnormal feeding pattern,and 85% with excessive crying.The hydrogen breath test at inclusion was abnormal:35 ± 3.1 ppm.After 15 d feeding with an adapted low-lactose formula,crying and flatulence decreased in 85% of patients (P < 0.001).For infants in whom no decrease of gas was reported,crying was still reduced (P < 0.01).Moreover,the feeding pattern was improved in 50% of infants when it was initially considered as abnormal.Finally,the hydrogen breath test decreased significantly (10 ± 2.5 ppm,P < 0.01).CONCLUSION:This study showed an association between clinical improvement and evidence of decreased levels of hydrogen when the infants were fed with a specially designed,low-lactose formula.展开更多

In the era of globalization, multicultural ...Due to the fast development of the Internet and other modern communication, people now interact easier than ever beyond the national boundaries and live in a global village. In the era of globalization, multicultural education has been important for all people around the world ever since their early childhood. Art is a necessary approach for young children to learn the world and expand their vision. It is also a good path for young children to learn different cultures, to foster respect for them, to enjoy cultures different from themselves, and to improve their skills for interacting with people from other cultural backgrounds. The main purposes of this article are to discuss the reason why art can be a potential approach to learning multi-cultural education and how an art approach can nourish young children's multi-cultural equipment. To reach these two purposes, literature review and case study analysis are adopted. There are five sections in this article. The first section introduces the background of this study. The second section explores the relation between art and multi-culture. The third section discusses how to use art in an antibias way and respect different cultures for young children. The fourth section analyzes two cases in order to know how to design curriculum, practice teaching and evaluate the efforts of multicultural education. Objective: To observe the effect of individualized needling protocol (on the basis of functional brain mapping and standardized syndrome differentiation in Chinese medicine) on gross motor functions of infants with ce...Objective: To observe the effect of individualized needling protocol (on the basis of functional brain mapping and standardized syndrome differentiation in Chinese medicine) on gross motor functions of infants with cerebral palsy (CP) and thus study the innovative means of combining acupuncture with rehabilitation management technique. Methods: A total of 74 CP infants were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 37 in each group. Combined individualized needling and rehabilitation training were used in the treatment group, versus combined Jin's needling (16 brain-benefiting points) and rehabilitation training in the control group. For both groups, acupuncture treatment was conducted once every other day and rehabilitation training every day. The dynamic changes of gross motor functions before treatment and after every 1-month treatment were measured and assessed using the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM)-66. Results: After treatment, the GMFM scores were significantly increased in both groups (P<0.01); there were no between-group statistical differences in increase range of the GMFM scores (P>0.05); the treatment protocol was not interacted with the treatment time; and the GMFM scores for spastic CP infants were better in the treatment group than that in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Combined scalp acupuncture and rehabilitation training can produce positive effects on gross motor functions of CP infants. Individualized needling can obtain better effects than 16 brain-benefiting points in improving the gross motor functions of spastic CP infants.展开更多
