Five typical places in Mount Lushan with the ideal landscape characteristics like the East Grove Temple, White Deer Cave Academy, Simplicity and Tranquility Monastery, Lushan Valley, and Villa-cluster of the East Valley were analyzed, and the integration of the basic models for each place was discussed to make the realistic landscape conform to the ideal needs. Moreover, the discussions also involved the characteristics of ideal landscape that are featured in resource, culture, structure, function, process, scale and region. In conclusion, ideal landscape in the Mount Lushan National Park was the product of the interaction between human and nature. Mount Lushan inherits the essence of Chinese traditional culture with a history of more than 1000 years; and it also absorbs the manna of the Western culture as well as the exchanges between nature and humanities together with the conflict and adaptation among different cultures. The natural landscape could be satisfied with the survival demand and cultural taste of mankind by the way of ecological planning.展开更多

In order to reveal the similarities and dissimilarities of images among the four destinations, a correspondence analysis on 16 image attributes was employed. The results indicate that the tourists’ images on Longhushan Mountain, Sanqingshan Mountain and Lushan Mountain are very similar: having a lot of good tourist sites, famous mountain scenery, being close to nature and having good guide service, and others, but religious culture and good shopping facilities having not made deep impression on tourist, while Jinggangshan Mountains is famous for its red culture. The correspondence analysis visualizes the strengths and weaknesses of the destinations, which is useful for market positioning among the competitive places. Finally, some marketing suggestions for the four destinations were provided.展开更多

The predictive power of a landslide susceptibility mapping model could be tested in an adjacent area of similar geo- environmental conditions to find out the reliability. Both the 2oo8 Wenchuan Earthquake and the 2o13 Lushan Earthquake occurred in the Longmen Mountain seismic zone, with similar topographical and geological conditions. The two earthquakes are both featured by thrust fault and similar seismic mechanism This paper adopted the susceptibility mapping model of co-seismic landslides triggered by Wenchuan earthquake to predict the spatial distribution of landslides induced by Lushan earthquake. Six influencing parameters were taken into consideration: distance from the seismic fault, slope gradient, lithology, distance from drainage, elevation and Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA). The preliminary results suggested that the zones with high susceptibility of co- seismic landslides were mainly distributed in the mountainous areas of Lushan, Baoxing and Tianquan counties. The co-seismic landslide susceptibility map was completed in two days after the quake and sent to the field investigators to provide guidance for rescue and relief work. The predictive power of the susceptibility map was validated by ROC curve analysis method using 2o37 co-seismic landslides in the epicenter area. The AUC value of o.71o indicated that the susceptibility model derived from Wenchuan Earthquake landslides showed good accuracy inpredicting the landslides triggered by Lushan earthquake.展开更多

The Lushan Hot Spring area in Nantou County, Taiwan, suffered serious sediment disasters after typhoons Sinlaku and Jangmi in aoo8, and following Typhoon Morakot in 2009. The basin's internal slope instability after the typhoons brought rain was examined using the landslide frequency-area distribution. The critical state indices attributed to landslide frequency-area distribution are discussed and the marginally unstable characteristics of the study area indicated. The landslides were interpreted from Spot 5 images before and after disastrous events. The results of the analysis show that the power-law landslide frequency-area curves in the basin for different rainfall-induced events tend to coincide with a single line. The temporal trend of the rainfall- induced landslide frequency-area distribution shows 1If noise and scale invariance. A trend exists for landslide frequency-area distribution in log-log space for larger landslides controlled by the historical maximum accumulated rainfall brought by typhoons. The unstable state of the basin, including landslides, breached dams, and debris flows, are parts of the basin's self-organizing processes. The critical state of landslide frequency-area distribution could be estimated by a critical exponent of 1.0. The distribution could be used for future estimation of the potential landslide magnitude for disaster mitigation and to identify the current state of a basin for management.展开更多

The series age data of complete stratigraphic section and full time formation since 400 kaBP were based on the results of the analyses using the dating methods with various instruments such as the ancient geomagnetism, electronics spin resonance (ESR), 36C1 and lumines- cence dating, etc. Corresponding to these data, it identified the paleomagnetic polarity events including Biwa- III event (320 kaBP), Biwa- 1I event (260 kaBP), Biwa- I event (180 kaBP, scarcity due to the disturbance of the iron dish), Blake event (100 kaBP) and Laschamp event (20 kaBP, didn't grow due to the activities of the surface), etc. Combined with the sequence stratigraphy, layer type characteristics and its sediment environment, the strati- graphic can be divided into 4 stages of development respectively : Stage [ is the climate period of glacial epoch (200-400 kaBP); stage 11 is the climate period of interglacial epoch (100-200 kaBP); stage llI is the climate peri- od of periglacial epoch (10-100 kaBP); stage IV is the climate period ofpostglacial epoch (0-10 kaBP).展开更多

This increase trend in geo-electric resistivity has been observed in the N60°W direction since 2012. During the period of the increase, the national highway No.317 was expanded in the monitoring area, so the potential electrodes in the N30°E direction had to be moved 10m towards the current electrodes. We interpreted the electric sounding data of Garz6 Seismic Station with a horizontally layered model. Analysis based on this model showed that the shift of potential electrodes can cause a 4 l-l.m rise to the measurements in the N30°E direction. Therefore, apparent resistivity of the two directions increased in the same time in 2012 after offsetting the effects from electrodes shift. Sensitivity coefficients of the two observation directions were also obtained using the model. Sensitivity coefficients of both directions were negative for the shallow layers, which can well explain the unexpected annual variations of Garze Seismic Station. In order to quantitatively analyze the effects from the expansion of the national highway on the observation, we constructed a finite element model based on the electrical structure. Analysis results also suggested that the expansion of the national highway could only cause a 0. 15 Ω·m decrease in the N60°W monitoring direction and 0. 1 Ω· m increase in the N30°E direction. Additionally, the valley values of annual variation of 2013 were distinctively higher than that of other years since 2008, meaning that there was an abnormal rise in apparent resistivity in the two observation directions at Garz~ Seismic Station before the Lushan earthquake. However, the rise was contrary to the decline variation before the Wenchuan earthquake. Therefore, it is still unsure whether or not the rise variation is related to the Lushan earthquake.展开更多

Using the seismic data from the China Earthquake Networks Center, we investigate the spatial variations of the b-value in the Dabie-Sulu (Jiangsu-Shandong) organic belt by calculating the b-value of each grid (1~ xl~) from 1970 to 2010. The study shows that: the b-value is smaller in the Tanlu fault and its adjacent area, which might suggest that the major earthquake recurrence period is relatively long due to the lower frequency of small earthquake activity. In both sides of Tanlu fault, the b-value is higher at the edge of Sulu block and the eastern part of Dabie orogenic belt. The b values are higher in North China central orogenic belt, and small earthquake activity which occurred along the central orogenic belt is frequent. Additionally, combined with geological and geophysical study, we find that the b-value has a certain correspondence relationship with the lithologic distribution, which informs us that seismic activity features are closely related to the inhomogeneous media in the crust.展开更多

Therefore, it is critical to outline the areas with potential aftershocks before reconstruction andre-settlement as to avoid future disasters. Based on the elastic dislocation theory and multi-layered lithospheric model, we calculate the co-and post-seismic stress changes caused by the Wenchuan and Lushan earthquakes to discuss the relationshipbetween Mw7.9 Wenchuan earthquake and Ms7.0 Lushan earthquake, the influences on the distribution of aftershock caused bythe Lushan earthquake, and the stress changes on major faults in this region. It is shown that the Coulomb failure stress increment on the hypocenter of Lushan earthquake caused by the Wenchuan earthquake is about 0.0037-0.0113 MPa. And the possible maximum value (0.0113 MPa) is larger than the threshold of stress triggering. Therefore, the occurrence of Lushanearthquake is probably effectively promoted by the Wenchuan earthquake. The aftershock distribution is well explained by theco-seismic stress changes of Lushan earthquake. By the two ends of the rupture of Lushan earthquake with increased Coulombfailure stress, a lack of aftershock recordings indicates the high seismic hazard. The stress accumulation and correspondingseismic hazard on the Kangding-Dafu segment of the Xinshuihe fault, the Beichuan-Yingxiu fault, the Pengxian-Guanxianfault, and the Ya'an fault are further increased by the Lushan earthquake and post-seismic process of Wenchuan earthquake.展开更多

In this study, we collected continuous broadband ambient noise seismic data and earthquake event data from Chinese provincial digital seismic network, and then utilized ambient noise tomography method and receiver function method to obtain high resolution shear wave velocity structure, crustal thickness, and Poisson ratio in the earthquake source region and its surroundings. Based on the tomography images and the receiver function results, we further analyzed the deep seismogenic environment of the LFZ and its neighborhood. We reveal three main findings: (1) There is big contrast of the shear wave velocities across the LFZ. (2) Both the Lushan earthquake and the Wenchuan earthquake occurred in the regions where crustal shear wave velocity and crustal thickness change dramatically. The rupture faults and the aftershock zones are also concentrated in the areas where the lateral gradients of crustal seismic wave speed and crustal thickness change significantly, and the focal depths of the earthquakes are concentrated in the transitional depths where shear wave velocities change dramatically from laterally uniform to laterally non-uniform. (3) The Wenchuan earthquake and its aftershocks occurred in low Poisson ratio region, while the Lushan earthquake sequences are located in high Poisson ratio zone. We proposed that the effect of the dramatic lateral variation of shear wave velocity, and the gravity potential energy differences caused by the big contrast in the topography and the crustal thickness across the LFZ may constitute the seismogenic environment for the strong earthquakes in the LFZ, and the Poisson ratio difference between the rocks in the south and north segments of the Longmenshan Fault zone may explain the 5 years delay of the occurrence of the Lushan earthquake than the Wenchuan earthquake.展开更多

Based on the local broadband waveforms in Sichuan and adjacent provinces regional networks and teleseismic broadband records from IRIS stations, the focal mechanism and the focal depth are determined by the CAP (Cut And Paste) and its upgraded methods, CAPtele and CAPjoint, respectively. The results show that the focal mechanisms and depth from different methods are steady, and the best double couple solution derived from the joint inversion is 210°, 44°, and 91° for strike, dip, and rake angles respectively for one nodal plane and 29°, 46°, and 89° for another with 16 km focal depth and M w 6.66 moment magnitude. In order to verify the reliability of the results, a number of tests are performed based on local seismograms with different velocity models. They indicate that there is about 10 degree's fluctuation in focal mechanisms and about 2 km variation in focal depth with a complex velocity structure. Furthermore, inverted by re-sampling the teleseismic waveforms on the basis of epicentral distance, the solutions are consistent with each other, which manifests that the teleseismic records are effective for constraining source parameters of the Lushan earthquake.展开更多

They indicate that there is about 10 degree's fluctuation in focal mechanisms and about 2 km variation in focal depth with a complex velocity structure. Furthermore, inverted by re-sampling the teleseismic waveforms on the basis of epicentral distance, the solutions are consistent with each other, which manifests that the teleseismic records are effective for constraining source parameters of the Lushan earthquake.
