Apartheid and Resistance in South Africa 1948-1969

The paper discusses the historical establishment of the apartheid system in South Africa since 1948 and the resistance struggle of Africans against its racial policies until the year 1969. The first part of the paper deals with the origins of white domination in South Africa, going back to mid-seventeenth century with the Dutch aggression against African tribes all the way through to the twentieth century and the appearance of the main political parties behind the ideology of apartheid. The second part of the paper focuses on the internal opposition to the segregationist state created by the whites in South Africa. Opponents came from different circles： intellectuals, politicians, churchmen, civil servants, lawyers, doctors, etc. But the most prominent opponent of Apartheid was the Africa National Congress （ANC） which was founded in 1912. The third and final part analyses the international struggle against apartheid in the United Nations forums. This opposition took first the form of political and diplomatic actions against the racial system of South Africa, and then was materialized by economic sanctions which revealed to be the most susceptible to affect seriously the apartheid regime.

From the Manipulation of Literary Translation to the Manipulation of Literary Creation： A Case Study

Manipulation always means a kind of extraordinary alteration for some purposes. All translation implies a degree of manipulation of the source text for a certain purpose. Liang Shih-chiu＇s literary translation serves for his literary creation which aims to promote colloquialism and to construct New Literature in the May Fourth Movement. Literary translation is the foundation of literary creation, or rather, its important strategy. The paper, from the perspective of Manipulation Theory, analyzes the purpose and strategy of Liang Shih-chiu＇s literary translation and explores the influence of his literary translation upon his literary creation in terms of ideology, poetics and patronage.

Inarticulateness, Power and Ethnic identity On Jorge Luis Borges＇ The Gospel According to Mark

This paper attempts to focus on Jorge Luis Borges’ short story The Gospel according To Mark. Borges, an Argentina short storywriter and translator, whose motherland is under long-term western colonization, identifi es himself unconsciously with the western culture. Hisworks mostly touch upon the themes of religion and philosophy. Along with post-colonialism theory’s springing up, critics began to analyze hisworks from the post-colonial perspective. The author thinks that this short story with religious implication parallels to the cultural invasion in theperiod of colonization, from powerful culture to weaker one. The author, thus, aims to use Michael Foucault’s viewpoints concerning power andknowledge to probe into the western cultural hegemony and ideological invasion refl ected in this story. Besides, the loss and construction of theethnic identity of the colonized will be discussed in details.

The Dilemma Between the Heterodox-the Orthodox Economics and Its Ideology

Economic movements have close relation with historical transformations. Historical and social transformations have seriously determined economic views, so, economic movements have been the indicators of economic wars of social classes. But no concept can describe sharp contrast in economics better than the two opponent concepts in economics： ＂orthodox＂ and ＂heterodox＂ economics. In this article, the reason why neo-classic economics, also called as orthodox economics, has a serious place in economic literature while the opponent＇s economic movements, named heterodox economics, do not defend only one ＂truth＂ and are not as important as orthodox economics will be examined. While doing this examination, Louis Althusser＇s ＂ideology＂ and Antonio Gramsci＇s ＂hegemony＂ will help us as these two concepts are quite instructive in understanding the irreplaceable significance of orthodox economics. As a result, by discussing alternative point of views about economics, positive emphasis of multivocality in economics literature will be revealed. On the other hand, every heterodox economics cannot criticize orthodox economics in the same way. In this study, institutional economics, which is accepted to be part of heterodox economics, will be discussed thoroughly. Institutional economics had a serious attitude against orthodox economics. In this study, generally the points in orthodox economics that institutional economics opposes will be emphasized, and although both economics approaches＇ ideological attitude will be attempted to be discussed generally, it will become easy to discuss the reason why heterodox economics developed an opposing ideology against the ideology of orthodox economics.

Research on the Scientific Meaning of Rule of Law in China

Beyond the existing academic viewpoints, clarifying the scientific meaning of the rule of law in China in the binary interaction between subject and object is the prerequisite for reifying the rule of law in China from an abstract symbol to a logic in action. The subject dimension of rule of law in China subsumes the legal consciousness, self confidence, independence and self-improvement of the subject. The object dimension of the rule of law in China focuses the relation mode and governance pattern between right and power. In the dimension of time, the rule of law in China is the unification of history and reality of China model. In the dimension of space, the rule of law in China is committed to seeking the right to speech, governance, management and development from the perspective of globalization.

Sea Turtles in Vietnam： On the Edge of Extinction

Five species of foraging and breeding sea turtles have been identified in Vietnam, they are Green turtle （Chelonia mydas）, Loggerhead turtle （Caretta caretta）, Olive ridley turtle （Lepidochelys olivacea）, Hawksbill turtle （Eretmochelys imbricata） and Leatherback turtle （Dermochelys coriacea）. Among them, with the exception of Loggerhead turtle （Caretta caretta）, four species have been being lay eggs on the beaches along the country. However, these populations have been strongly suffered by human activities for decades. The number of foraging and breeding Hawksbill and Leatherback sea turtles has dramatically decreased, and Olive Ridley turtle has almost disappeared on their traditional nesting beaches. Beside the reason of harvesting eggs and nesting turtles by catch or by purpose, the developments in coastal areas where sea turtles laying eggs such as in shrimp aquaculture, tourist resort and residential area developments etc., also contributed to this decline of sea turtles. Despite the fact that the recent raising awareness programs on protection and conservation of the sea turtle were very well done with the participation of many organizations and provinces, this important animals still face the risk of extinction in Vietnam.

John Milton＇s Ongoing Project of Protestant Enlightenment in Paradise Lost

For some critics, the publication of Milton＇s Paradise Lost in 1667 suggests his taking religious retreat from his previous political investment in both the Commonwealth Government （1649-1653） and Oliver Cromwell＇s Protectorate that was abnegated by the return of King Charles II in 1660. Not to mention that Milton＇s flamboyant portrayal of Satan appears to be a critique of republicanism： Just as the republicans who revolted against the monarchy, Satan tempts other angels to rebel against the omnipotent God and gain their freedom. This transgressive betrayal fails and is punished in Paradise Lost. However, when the strict censorship of the writings of Milton＇s contemporaries is taken into account, the strategies employed in Milton＇s Paradise Lost become clearer： It may be read as a veiled critique of kingship hiding behind the facade of a criticism of republicanism so as to circumvent censorship. In other words, the work may have surreptitiously conveyed a hidden message for his English citizens. That message may be indirectly delivered through Milton＇s innovative elaboration of the fall of Man, which is roughly described in the Genesis. Therefore, this essay argues that Milton veils the seed of political reform in the moral lessons conveyed in his presentation of the psychological dynamic of Adam and Eve＇s fall. In addition, this essay further explores how Milton endeavors to re-shape the national consciousness of the 17th century English people through alternate historical awareness.

No Dream, No Future： A Study on Aesthetic Dimensions of＂Chinese Dream＂ and the Task of Literary Critics

This article believes that ＂Chinese Dream＂ has three dimensions： First, ＂Chinese Dream＂ is the inevitable demands of Chinese reconstruction and it is the deepest desire of Chinese nation since the Chinese modern history. Second, the modernism of socialism with Chinese feature is the process of Chinese modernism. Third, the third theoretical dimension, 1 believe, is the ideal of socialism. I would like to take the film ＂Lost＂ and ＂Peking Monk＂ as examples and analyze the specific form of expression. This article is going to indicate in the end that ＂the revolution of aesthetics＂ and the assignments of critics, which can be recognized as the intuitive ability, could merge the historical affair and the human nature, which literature comprise, together and deliver deeper analyses and appraise The mission of critics is not only to distinctly emerge the aesthetic form of the literal works, but also analyze and seize the ＂aesthetic form＂ of them, that is to say, their mission is to find the aesthetic meanings of aesthetic expression from commonage in order to achieve the goal of leading and stimulating people ensuing the consciousness and liberation of culture. That is the most important mission and responsibility of Marxist literal criticism and literal critics. This is a rather tough task and refers to the new understanding and attitude to the relative questions of literature and culture. In the eyes of some self-complacent intellectuals, the responsibility for literature and critics is the ＂aesthetic entertainment＂ and ＂spiritual redemption＂. The significance of Marxist Aesthetics lies in that it upgrades the general ＂literal principle＂ and ＂aesthetic principle＂ in to a level of social development and national deliverance, and also it regards whether the literature having the function of cultural libration as the more pivotal content. The assignment for the critics and litterateurs is to engage and promote the production and promulgate for this significance, the cultural consciousness and liberation.

Integration of industry cooperation development research in Bohai Economic Rim

Integrated development of industrial cooperation is the core content in the Bohai economic rim.Industrial structure convergence of Bohai economic rim mainly exist in macro three industries while it rarely exist in the manufacturing industry and other internal meso level. Learning from changing tendency, industrial structure convergence in the five provinces and municipality in the Bohai Economic Rim tend to be increasingly intense. For integration of industry cooperation development in Bohai Economic Rim, it is faced with massive separation, industrial development convergence and is restricted by institutional and ideological barriers. As strategic choice based on interest tending, integration of industry cooperation development in Bohai Economic Rim should be further integrated on development concept of industrial transformation to promote institutional system of the integration of industrial development and optimize the industrial layout and division system of Bohai economic rim.

Impact of Tourist Environmental Awareness on Environmental Friendly Behaviors: A Case Study from Qinghai Lake, China

This paper examines the influence environmental awareness and recreation experience has on the environmentally-friendly behavior of tourists, and identifies the function of perceived quality as an intermediary variable. By providing a conceptual framework based on the combination of environmental awareness theory and tourist perception theory, and a SEM-based methodology, an in-depth analysis of the influence mechanism was carried out in the Qinghai Lake area of Qinghai province. Results show that there exist differences in the ways environmental awareness influences perceived gains and perceived losses, and the influence coefficient of the former is higher than that of the latter. The perceived gains may promote environmentally friendly behaviors, while the perceived losses have an adverse impact on such behaviors. Moreover, the strength of the adverse impact of the latter is less than the strength of the positive impact of the former. The mediating effect of perceived quality was confirmed in the EA（environmental awareness）-EB（environmental behavior） nexus, within which the influence of tourist environmental awareness on environmentally friendly behavior could be transformed. The mediating effect of perceived quality in the perceived-gains model was more obvious than that in the perceived-losses model. This study highlights the importance of understanding the foundations of environmental behavior related to environmental awareness and tourist perceptions.

The Effects of Exposure Frequency and Contextual Richness in Reading on Chinese EFL Learners' Vocabulary Acquisition

This study investigates the effects of exposure frequency and contextual richness in reading on the acquisition of different aspects of vocabulary knowledge. An intact class of 35 second- year English majors read an adapted story, with the target pseudo words highlighted, and then took ten carefully sequenced vocabulary tests. The test scores were subjected to multiple regression analyses. Follow-up semi-structured interviews were also conducted. The findings show that （a） frequency and contextual richness were closely related to vocabulary knowledge of spelling, grammar and syntax, with frequency playing a more influential role than contextual richness; （b） contextual richness contributed exclusively to gains in meaning and paradigmatic association, while frequency did not exert much influence in this regard; （c） knowledge of spelling and grammar was probably implicitly acquired, whereas word meaning gains required both explicit attention and conscious processing.
